================================

Recruitment is open for this year's first big event, a musical called Easter: The Story of Hope. Learn more about this production in this Q&A with Pastor Mike Speegle. ================================

Tell us about this year's Easter musical. When is it? This year's Easter event provides us with the opportunity to put on an event that will help people experience the story of Jesus. It happens Friday, Saturday and Sunday of Easter weekend (April 18-20) at 7 p.m.!This is your first Easter program at New Hope. How did you decide what to choose for this first major event?  I wanted us to put on an event that will be more than a performance, more than a worship service; that will be a community event.!You describe this as one of several big events planned for the year. Tell us about your vision for these. As Christians, we have the call and privilege to tell the story of God in our lives and in our Big Events. We want to create a couple of signature events that will give us a more prominent and recognizable presence in our community. We can do this through offering events that help people experience that story for themselves as we invite them into our telling of His story.

!How many people do you need to make this happen (on stage and off)? This dramatic presentation has room for more than 100 people to be involved (including children). We'll recreate scenes from the life of Jesus: His times of telling stories, healing people, teaching His disciples, cleansing the temple, last supper, arrest and crucifixion and resurrection. !We have important roles for younger children (grades 2-4), older children (grades 5-8), young men and women, as well as older folks.The angelic choir could have up to 50 people. And there are the tech crew and greeters.Our goal is find a place for everyone who is interested in helping to tell Jesus' story.

What exactly will those who volunteer be asked to do? Practices and performances. This first year, there is a whole lot going to go into getting things ready, and we need everyone to be serious about making a commitment. Often when a production happens, you practice for weeks, then have one performance. This year, we'll practice for weeks (on Sabbath afternoons) and have four performances: a final dress rehearsal the Sunday before Easter and the three performances over Easter weekend. It's a great payoff to be able to perform multiple times instead of just once after so much investment.!What are you most looking forward to about first big event at New Hope? How God will work in and through the people who are part of presenting the Greatest Story Ever Told. And that our shared experience in having that privilege will open us up to the possibilities we have through Big Events to touch 100s, even 1,000s, of people's lives.!What do you hope viewers take away from seeing Easter: The Story of Hope? They will experience the reality of what Jesus has done for everyone; my hope is that it either reminds them again of that amazing sacrifice or helps them begin to think about what that possibly means for them.

It was obvious he was in a hurry to get off. The moment the plane stopped, he jumped up, grabbed his bag and moved quickly down the aisle — only to be stopped by other passengers with the same desire. Someone needed help getting luggage down, delaying the process. Another person got a strap caught underneath a seat and took a while to dislodge it. Then someone’s luggage opened and spilled contents all over the aisle.

He waited patiently for each problem to be resolved and each row to empty. But his ears, bright red in color, and his clenched jaw betrayed his anxiousness. He needs to relax, for goodness sake, I thought as I watched him fidget. It was a late flight, so he should not have had a connection. I concluded he was just impatient, wanting to get home like the rest of us. When he emerged from the jet way, he began to run toward the exit, expertly scooting around people who seemed to be taking their time.

It did not take long to understand his hurry. At the security exit stood a woman with three children. They shrieked with joy when they saw him through the glass partition. He waved and ran even faster toward them. Suddenly, the children ran to him, screaming, “Daddy, Daddy, Daddy.” They ignored the signs that said, “No entrance beyond this point.” The security guard blew his whistle and shouted for them to stop. By the time the children met their father and jumped into his arms, bells and sirens were going off. The rest of us passengers were ordered to stop and led to one side of the hallway. About a dozen security guards surrounded the man and children, some of them with their hands on their guns, holsters unsnapped.

With a stern voice, the security guard in charge instructed the children to step back. “But he’s my dad,” one of the boys said. “You cannot cross this line,” the guard replied, pointing to the bright red line on the floor. “But he’s MY dad,” the boy emphatically shouted. “He’s MY dad!”

After private words with the father, the guards released him, and he was immediately engulfed in the arms of his family. Love is powerful.

Jesus loved children. Parents would bring their children to Him to be blessed. But Jesus did more than that. He took children into His arms. He hugged them, let them sit on His lap, perhaps even crawl all over Him. He spoke to them in a gentle way and told them stories like no one else ever had. Perhaps Jesus even played games with them. No wonder children disregarded the cultural protocol and ran to Jesus whenever they saw Him. They did not let the disciples’ rejection stop them. They could feel His love for them. And they loved Him back. Love is powerful.

Have you experienced the irresistible power of Jesus’ love, a love so powerful that nothing would stop you from drawing close to Him?
