Popularized in China, tuángòu, or group

buying, has become a global phenomenon.

In this era of the group or the crowd, both

youth who are seeking an alternative culture

and cost-conscious families alike will continue

to turn the power of collective action to their

financial advantage. Collective group buying of

goods will eventually evolve, as large groups

begin to sell their value to corporations and the

government.

Players pondered the potential of building Groupon-type apps for bulk

selling and buying in order to bring the global market to rural farmers. Some took

the idea even further—what would happen if we could provide a platform for group

selling of indigenous knowledge or personal data on a community level?
