Camp Galileo is a place where fear goes on holiday. In its place grows a spirit of exploration and innovation. Every year, we see the experience fire campers’ imaginations and literally change their way of relating to learning.

This is no accident. Our award-winning curriculum, designed by Stanford grad Pamela Briskman and her team, is the product of thousands of hours of development. Taking inspiration from the innovation process developed at the Stanford d. school, we use imaginative themes and whimsical narratives to draw campers into a week full of hands-on art, science and outdoor activities. The themes are adapted to be irresistibly engaging for three age groups:

Nebulas (pre-K to K)

Stars (1st and 2nd graders)

Supernovas (3rd to 5th graders).

Galileo RocksMusic-Inspired Art and Instrument EngineeringUnleash your inner maestro as you explore the melodious world of music. Make harmonious creations inspired by musical compositions and the music-influenced art of Picasso, Kandinsky and Bearden. Investigate the science of sound as you engineer instruments and noise-making devices. Get ready to boogie down and turn the innovation up on a toe-tapping, finger-snapping, music-making adventure.

Destination San FranciscoArt and Engineering in the City by the BaySet your sights on a spectacular San Francisco adventure. Create art inspired by iconic attractions in Golden Gate Park, on Pier 39 and along the city streets. Engineer Bay Area-style bridges, earthquake-safe structures and working cable cars. Put some flowers in your hair and say goodbye to your heart on a fog-soaked, innovation-filled journey to the City by the Bay.

Make It UsefulDIY Art and Real-World InventionsMake everything you need with your own two hands. Put a creative spin on everyday objects as you design personalized chairs, clocks and pillowcases for your room. Build useful inventions to take home like vacuums, secure safes, and alarms that really work. Harness your innovative energy and join the marvelous maker community as you transform intriguing ideas into functional reality. Developed in partnership with the Maker Education Initiative

Mount Everest ExpeditionNepalese and Tibetan Art and the Science of ClimbingEmbark on an epic adventure to the earth’s highest peak. Create traditional, tactile art inspired by the crafts and culture of Nepal and Tibet. Explore the science of scaling mountains as you design and test climbing gear to withstand Everest’s extreme environment. Pack your bags, plot your route and prepare to reach innovative new heights on the climb of a lifetime.

Fashion DesignTurn your personal vision into a runway reality. Learn about the leading innovators of the fashion world. Work on sewing machines and practice hand-sewing techniques. Paint your own detailed designs to create unique fabrics. Button up your sketching, hemming and alteration skills. Design a mini-collection featuring your own machine-sewn, hand-painted garments, bags and accessories.

Digital FilmmakingGet ready to call the shots as part of your own short film production. Learn about movie genres and filming techniques. Take on the role of screenwriter, cinematographer, actor or director on a production team of your peers. Write a winning screenplay, capture images with digital video cameras and edit your work with iMovie.

CULINARY ARTSChefology: International Eats New!Cook your way around the world in this trailblazing, mouthwatering new major. Create delectable delicacies inspired by the cuisines of Africa, India, Asia, South America and Persia. Explore the ancient routes of the spice trade. Make entrees and drinks inspired by some of the world’s most distinctive culinary cultures.

Chefology: Decadent DessertsBake up a new batch of treats in this sweet major, deliciously updated for 2014. Make mini cupcakes and cookies, decorate with fondant, mix frosting, create candy and churn ice cream. Whip up tasty toppings for your desserts including sauces, sprinkles and candied seeds. Reinvent recipes by adding unique flavors, changing ingredient ratios and practicing new plating techniques.

BUILDERS AND MAKERSInventor’s Workshop Updated!Investigate and improve the world around you in this freshly updated major. Create parallel and series circuits with conductive paint, then use what you learn to wire an electric car. Learn the basics of joinery and structural engineering as you construct cardboard furniture.

Go-Kart BuildersClimb into the driver’s seat of your own custom kart. Using a gravity car kit as your foundation, learn to safely use hand and power tools to construct your kart—including its wheels and axles, steering column, hood and seat. Work with your fellow crew members to test and redesign.

Go-Karts Extreme Take the custom kart you built in Go-Kart Builders and transform it. Refine your wood-working skills and rebuild your original kart to improve form and function. Trick it out with upgrades including larger rear wheels, springs, hinges and lights.

HIGH TECHNOLOGYMusic Producers New!Create your own debut album during this new major’s debut summer. Experiment with GarageBand to create personalized ringtones. Explore the ins and outs of Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) as you generate a unique fusion of sounds. Choose your digital instruments, set your beat and create original songs, each with a structured chorus and creative bridge.

Website DesignDiscover the wonders of the web as you build your own site. Use Wix to make your website vision a reality, refining design, functionality and user experience. Learn how to use color, layout and typography to express your message. Make your site stand out by embedding widgets like games, photos and videos, or create your own unique look by altering the HTML code.

Intro to Video Game DesignPower up and find out what it takes to create a unique video game universe. Explore the basics of gameplay and game mechanics with MultiMedia Fusion 2. Learn how to design puzzle, platform, adventure, action and maze games. Take on the role of interaction designer, graphic lead, software engineer or creative director.

Galileo Summer Quest gives burgeoning visionaries the opportunity to take the next step. They continue to leverage our Stanford-d.school-inspired innovation process, but in place of weekly themes we introduce weekly majors.

Inspired by expert instructors—many of them professionals in their fields—campers realize their personal vision in one or more of 17 majors. Each week is an opportunity to try something new, or go deeper in a major they already love.
