Princes Way, LondonHard-Wearing Car Park Waterproofing & Protection

The ProjectPrinces Way in South-West London is a large residential scheme that will deliver 110 new apartments and houses in the area, the centrepiece of which is a 200-year old oak tree planted by famous 18th century landscape architect Capability Brown.

The project is being delivered by Lendlease, McLaren Construction and architects Scott Brownrigg, who briefed Newton and their Specialist Contractor CCL to deliver a high-end, durable and non-slip finish to the 700m2 basement car park situated beneath the apartment block.

The SolutionWhilst the design stage observed that a Type A waterproofing membrane had been installed under the slab, in order to deliver the desired finish to the car park it was deemed that an internal waterproofing system and vapour barrier was required.

With this in mind, Newton and a team of seven from CCL undertook a four-stage system build, adhering to the following specification:

1. Newton 903-P was applied by brush and worked into the surface in order to enable the application of Newton 706-HB

“The new build car park at Princes Way required a hardwearing waterproofing solution that would provide a practical, non-slip finish for the residents of the 110 properties in the complex.

As a Newton Specialist Basement Contractor, CCL were delighted to carry out the waterproofing in close collaboration with Newton Waterproofing, who provided excellent on-site training to the team of CCL operatives prior to the commencement of the project, as well as providing practical assistance when required throughout the works. The project ran smoothly thanks to the excellent working relationship that CCL and Newtons have developed over many years and the confidence that the team had in all of the products that were specified for the project. The team at Newton were a pleasure to work with and ensured the project was executed professionally and to the tight deadlines demanded by the client.”

4.1. Following the comprehensive system build, Newton 701-HB was quick and easy to apply

3. Newton 902-P is a damp-tolerable primer and is an effective barrier to substrate moisture and vapour

The fully-cured floor was ready for full use just 7 days later, and is already exhibiting its waterproof properties

4.2. The chemical-resistant floor coating was protected from UV rays in areas exposed to light with 704-UVC

The Products701-HBHigh-build, tough, solvent-free and easy-to-apply epoxy floor coating, providing protective and decorative properties to concrete, steel and other substrates, with very good chemical resistance.

706-HBA self-smoothing epoxy-and-cement coating that incorporates advanced chemistry and polymer technology to deliver high adhesion and excellent resistance to impact, abrasion and chemicals, providing protection for concrete floors in demanding environments.

902-PThe primer of choice for non-porous surfaces in order to create a barrier to residual substrate moisture and vapour within concrete and screeds. Also applicable to damp surfaces in order to allow the speedy application of coatings, membranes, levelling compounds and screeds.

903-PApplied prior to Newton’s liquid waterproofing membranes, levelling compounds, concrete repair and floor coating products, this easy-to-use primer minimises the risk of out-gassing from concrete substrates.

COLLOMIX MIXING EQUIPMENTCollomix are a leading international supplier of technology for material preparation, maximising efficiency and effectiveness of mixing on-site, and setting the benchmark in quality, design, ergonomics and efficiency.
