Make it count: measuring what you do
1. NCE measures are for them, not you
2. Keep process measures to a minimum and make it easy on your investigators
3. Ask yourself: what will success look like for your network?
4. Hire someone to quantify the socio-economic impact
5. Communicate like crazy
Measure what is measurable, and make measurable what is not so.
- Galileo Galilei
Three Key Messages
1. The Board plays an important role in maintaining a focus on impact. Does your Board engage the right people and consistently review performance? Is everyone clear on what you’re trying to achieve?
2. Bold, impactful, ideas unite individuals and organizations. Does your network have a big idea -something that couldn’t otherwise be achieved through existing operating/personnel grants?
3. Measure what you do, no matter how difficult it is. You will be asked to report to multiple stakeholders and even the public. How will you measure your impact beyond the traditional measures?
