Dear Assembly Members:
I want to welcome back all of those Assembly members who have been traveling this summer. I also want to
welcome any new members who are joining the Potomac Assembly. I did quite bit of traveling myself, visit-
ing six Midwest and Western states in the space of 13 days! Needless to say, I put a lot of mileage on a cou-
ple of rental cars!
Much has been said already by Bishop Burbidge about the difficult times that the Catholic Church is experi-
encing in the United States since the release of the Pennsylvania Grand Jury Report on Child Sex Abuse as
well as the recent revelations regarding Cardinal and Archbishop Emeritus Theodore McCarrick. All I want
to say that I am edified by the manner that the faithful have responded when hearing of such egregious af-
fronts to the dignity of children. As the Pastor of Good Shepherd, Fr. Tom Ferguson, mentioned to all the
parishioners during the Sunday masses of August 17th and 18th, 2018, I want to reiterate that your priests are
committed to the protection of all minors as well as the faithful adherence to the 2002 Charter for the Protec-
tion of Children and Young People.
I urge all of the Assembly members, if at all possible, to join your priests in acts of reparation for the harm
caused to any young person in the world by clergy or church personnel. Praying rosaries, having masses
said, and offering up any suffering are some of the best ways we can make reparation for these grievous
sins. It is important to know that even if none of us in the Assembly caused any serious harm to anyone,
when one member of the Body of Christ suffers, all of its members suffer.
Finally, I am sure that more and more news will continue to flood the airwaves and the internet regarding the
scandal. Remain faithful and focused! The Church is a divine institution with Jesus Christ as its Head.
However, its members are human and often very weak. Trials and challenges are sure to continue as the
Church is being purified.
For comparison, I was a young Lieutenant junior grade in Flight School when the events of the Navy Tail-
hook scandal were becoming public. Many high-ranking officers were dismissed for covering up what took
place during the Tailhook Convention. It was disheartening to hear the news that poured from the newspa-
pers daily. I was often met with strange looks when I wore my Navy khaki uniform at the grocery store and
other places. It took sometime before the Naval Aviation Community regained its standing in the public
eyes. Eventually, the Navy learned very important lessons that it carries to this day.
Please know that I am here to serve you. Should you have any questions or concerns, I am more than happy
to speak with you.
God bless you.

Brother Knights, Vivat Jesus!
We just finished our second month and so this seems that we’re just picking up from where we left off last Colum-bian Year. Bid an honorable farewell to PFN PGK James Reilly and located a SK who went missing for a long time, SK Eric McVicker. Celebrated our Founder’s Birthday, Father Michael J. McGivney (August 12, 1852) at Ft Belvoir. Chapel with a huge turnout for Honor Guard at 14 SKs in Regalia and 2 in the new uniforms. Very Fraternal Even-ing! The following week we had Color Corps and Honor Guard Training, along with Commanders Certification for Faith-ful Navigators. We had 35 SKs in attendance with the District Marshal Dave Todd instructing and ADM Phil Ken-nedy assisting. Special Thanks to CCC PFN PGK Fred Beata for getting the Training. Thanks also to Captain Bob Reynolds, PFN PGK Jim McCracken, PFN PGK Tom Fahey, and PFN PGK Buck Coates for refreshments and setup. This was also a Fraternal setting. Our Meetings were entertaining with each council providing information on lots of activities both past and present. Stay Tuned! September is upon us and already the first weekend we have a Patriotic Rosary then the week we have a Memori-al Mass for a Medal of Honor Priest, a Wake/Funeral for a past SK and tribute to Bishop Burbidge on Saturday. Fraternally,
Ed Stance
