Background
• National Climate Change Response Database (NCCRD)– Developed by Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA)– Provides a central portal for easy access to climate change work being done in South Africa– Contains details of activities on ground as well as research projects relating to climate change
mitigation and adaptation– Provides a networking platform for researchers and potential donors.
• Climate Change Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) System• South Africa is in the process of developing a nationwide climate change M&E system• The system will monitor and evaluate the costs, outcome and impact of climate change responses• Once the design of this system has been completed, NCCRD will function as the IT-platform of the
M&E system.

A map view, graphs and charts provide an overview of the projects being undertaken in South Africa in response to climate change.

The registration details are for DEA use only. The only contact information reported from the site is Project Contact and the associated email address.
Searching the Database
The database can be searched using an extensive set of filter criteria
Complete the filters as desired in order to narrow search.
Click search to obtain a list of projects that meet the selection criteria (choosing no criteria will bring up all projects)
Additional filters available if searching mitigation, adaptation or research projects
Export to excel
Run search for desired projects
Export to excel for download of all information available on each selected project
Managers of climate change mitigation, adaptation and research projects are encouraged to upload details of these projects on the database in order to increase the scope and effectiveness of the project.
Accuracy and Use of Data
• The information contained in the system is provided by individual participants.
• Although DEA has made every effort to ensure that the content of the database is of value to users, it does not, and cannot, vouch for the accuracy of the contents.
Future Developments
• Once the design of South Africa’s M&E system has been completed the IT architecture of the NCCRD will updated to align with it.
• The performance of the system, the accuracy and completeness of the information will be improved.
• It is envisaged that in the future the NCCRD as part of M&E system will also contain information on climate finance, climate change vulnerability and climate impacts.
