OCTOBER 2018 NEW DELHI 3

Dear Readers

Greetings for Dusshera!!The recent RSS conference by Mohan Bhagwat to redefine the

identity of RSS making it more inclusive and shifting the identity from Pro Hindu- Anti Muslim to a pro-Hindustan identity including all the Hindustan born citizens including Hindus and Muslims. This repositioning of RSS is a response to the growing criticism of RSS from the opposition political parties like Congress and Communist. This effort of RSS to redefine its identity has posed a serious challenge for the opposition parties taking away usual attacking points like anti-Muslim and Hindu fundamentalist etc.

The repositioning helps RSS and BJP to expand its vote banks and appeal to the larger segment of voting population enhancing the electoral prospects on BJP in the coming election. In this context, it is felt essential that the political developments linking RSS, BJP and Congress parties need to be analyzed with a holistic perspective to study their contribution to the responsible politics in India. The relevant facts for a holistic analysis are as under:

It is a fact that the power of an idea has no boundaries. For example the philosophy of AdiShankaracharya on Hinduism a genius from a Kerala a Southern state, who travelled the whole country and set up four Centres / Monastries/Mathas responsible for revival and spread of Advaita Vedanta and Hinduism for which he is known as the greatest revivalist and is believed to be responsible for revival and unification of Hinduism against the growing supremacy of Buddhism. Other Similar Spiritual and Cultural Movements include the Shakti movement, Ramakrishna Mission led Modern Hindu Movement, which has spread all over the world.

Along with these, the Congress Movement was a political movement founded in 1885;the first modern nationalist movement in the British Empire, under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, Congress became the principal leader of the Indian independence movement, leading India to independence from British.

However, compared to Congress, RSS was born in during the freedom struggle days in Nagpur by K. B Hedgewar in 1925 as a national volunteer organization to promote Cultural and social movement against British rule as a response to Hindu Muslim Riot in Kolkata. Hedgewar was heavily influenced by writings of Hindu nationalist ideologue Veer Savarkar focusing on the need for creating a Hindu nation. Thus the original character of RSS remained to be volunteering for creating socio-cultural movement and soco-cultural organization for freedom of India. RSS was regularly patronized by members of the Congress party including the former head of the Nagpur Congress M. S. Golwalkarand Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, a member of Nehru Cabinet and, a member of Congress who led the process of formation of Jan Sangh. The core of RSS central ideology has evolved during the freedom struggle and disenchantment of Gandhi and Nehru model of politics which was to secure freedom from Britishers at any cost, including the cost of the Cultural identity of India as a Nation, and appeasement of Muslims and partition of India. The Muslim appeasement politics of Gandhi and Nehru was the primary source of disconnect between Congress and the RSS organization operating with a nationalistic vision dominated by Hindu communities. Gandhi’s repeated demands for accommodating

Muslims resulted in the evolution of an identity of RSS as an Anti-Muslim organization. Therefore, it may be said that the evolution of RSS as an organization is induced by the ideology of RSS founders so much so as the politics of Gandhi & Nehru. During those times in Indian History, apart from Congress, RSS was the only alternate organisation with mass base charged with the spirit of unifying India Culturally with its ancient heritage and save it from aggressive Muslim dominance.

The direction of RSS has evolved over the years as a socio-culture entity with a mass Hindu base, which has supported causes like freedom Struggle led by Congress, and other socio-political movements including JP movement, Ayodhya Movement and Anna Movement. Though Congress appreciated the strength of RSS in terms of its mass base it could not accept RSS as a potential opponent and threat to its vote bank aspirations, even though RSS had no political goals. But the threat perception of Congress wrt, RSS was real due to its mass appeal.

So Congress attempted to demolish it by banning RSS permanently; Nehru wanted to Ban RSS permanently in 1948 after the assassination of Gandhiji and again in 1974 Indira Gandhi banned RSS for its support to the JP Movement. This repeated effort of Congress to ban RSS induced RSS to develop a political wing to transform its socio-cultural power to political power to claim its rightful share in the affairs of the nation and deal with opponents, which led to the formation of Jan Sangh in the 1951 and BJP in 1977. Jan Sangh merged with Jaanta Party in 1977 and after the collapse of Jaanta party; Jan Sangh emerged as a new party called BJP claiming to be the original Janta party to manifest its political ideology and counter the appeasement brand of politics of Congress.

Now, it would be clear to appreciate the behaviour of Congress towards RSS linking it with all the Hindu terror , fundamentalist etc. is obviously out of insecurity of Congress and its greed to single-handedly dominate the political space of India, even, Mahatma Gandhi had advised to Close down Congress Party, Indian Nation Congress after its objective of gaining independence was achieved. The ability of BJP to emerge as a dominant central political entity and the response of RSS has been to consolidate its political base by strengthening BJP. The pronouncement of Mohan Bhagawat can be appreciated as a response to the attack of Congress to block the progress of BJP and RSS. However, the real concern for the nation is that the fight for the power by these two parties should not act against India.

INteRVIew oF the MoNth

DeepAk AmitAbhChairman & Managing Director, PTC India Ltd.

Q how do you respond to the mandatory provision for csR under the company’s act forcing companies to

invest 2% of their profit for social developmental activities?

A This is a very positive initiative by the government so that the companies can give back to the society in their

influence area. It was expected that 2% spending on CSR would be forth coming without any regulatory pressure but since this has not happened the government is thinking of making it mandatory in all the permissible area of Schedule VII of Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013.

Q how does the Ptc approach csR, either as adhoc charity or part of integrated corporate strategy?

A CSR can never be an adhoc charity for any company. It has to be genuinely for the benefit of the society and

should be a part of integrated corporate strategy. For PTC, it is a stated principle of CSR as an investment into enriching the surrounding ecosystem.

Q What is the area of csR intervention at Ptc and

which is the flagship CSR program of PTC?

A PTC has been taking several CSR interventions

mainly focused towards women empowerment, girl child education, sanitation and hygiene as well as rural development activities. The focus has been on skill development linked to employment, renewable energy as an output multiplier, and agriculture development.

Q how has the csR & Sustainability program

evolved at your company?

A CSR & Sustainability program in PTC graduated

from taking standalone project directly by the company to implementing through PTC

Foundation. PTC Foundation, is a not for profit Trust registered under the Indian Trust Act , formed on behalf of group company(ies), is planning its social intervention through mix of tenor (short & long) strategy to increase our influence zone. Our program intervention into women empowerment through education, participative employment, child education and adopting improvised livelihood methodology has been bringing transformation to the society.

Q What is the level of your personal involvement in CSR planning and execution?

A My personal involvement has two parameters e.g. qualitative and quantitative. Qualitatively, I remain

personally involved through regular interactions with the CSR

OCTOBER 2018 NEW DELHI 7

team and keep myself update with the regular activities going on. Moreover, detailed review is undertaken during the Board of Trustees Meeting which I Chair. Quantitatively, As a Trustee and also Chairman of the Trust, I encourage my people to keep sharing ideas on “journey of transformation” and make an effort to provide gap up resources (monetary, project adoption and otherwise) for the same.

Q Which areas would you focus on for implementing CSR in the next five years?

A During the next five years we would like to focus on capex expenditure in sector of renewable energy, safe

drinking water, environment protection and skill development. The ultimate aim would however, be to undertake long term strategic project in line with our corporate strategy.

Q Can you share a recent accomplishment you are especially proud of in your CSR & Sustainability role?

A The various initiatives undertaken are all targeted towards the underprivileged section of the society and I

am proud of the initiatives taken up so far. Special mention needs to be made of the solarisation of two kitchens of Akshaya Patra Foundation leading to nearly 1.5 lakhs more mid-day meals for the needy children.

Q if you had the opportunity to make one major change in your industry, what would it be?

A One major change in the industry with a view to CSR should be that the companies should be eager to spend

even more than 2% on CSR wherever it is possible.

Q Anything you would like to share with the readers of CSR VISION?

A CSR vision is a good initiative for the readers to be update about the latest happening in this sector and

also about the latest developments which are happening at different places. u

In a move towards promoting Congenital Heart Defects (CHD) free India and Saving the Girl Child, Pernod

Ricard India Charitable Foundation (PRICF) and Genesis Foundation have joined hands to support the surgery of girls suffering from Congenital Heart Defects (CHD). Under this collaboration, PRICF would be supporting surgeries of 20+ girls with a grant of INR 40 Lakhs.

According to a report released by UNICEF in 2018 “More baby girls than boys die in India, as parents neglect healthcare”. The report also stated that “a preference for sons encourages sex-selective abortions, which has led to skewed sex ratios” . The sex ratio in the country stands at a staggering 940 females per 1000 males. According to the data collected by UNICEF in 2017, nearly 60 percent of the infants admitted to across 700 state run hospital facilities were boys. This is because parents are less likely to seek medical treatment for their daughter than their son.

CHD is the most common congenital anomaly in newborn babies. With over 2 lakh children born with CHD in the country, it contributes to 10% of child mortality. Due to lack of an efficient tracking system, several kids go undetected and without treatment 60% of CHD are lethal within first two years of life.

Given the situation at hand, PRICF and Genesis Foundation have taken up the onus of identifying and supporting the surgeries of girls with CHD, new born to 18 years of age, who belong to families with monthly income of less than Rs 10,000. The aim is to support this neglected section and give them a chance to live.

Speaking about the partnership, Sunil Duggal, Vice President Corporate Affairs, Pernod Ricard India, said, “Over the years, PRICF has provided access to healthcare to the lesser privileged, and we are committed to the same. We are proud of our partnership with Genesis Foundation

to provide healthcare treatment to Girls with CHD, who are doubly displaced from the society. They not only have the disadvantage of heart ailments, but are also overlooked because of their gender. Under the new association, we are trying to tackle two challenges by supporting surgeries of children in the country in partnership with Genesis Foundation. We are extremely happy with this collaboration and hope to Save many more little hearts.”

Sharing their views on the collaboration, Prema and Jyoti Sagar, Founder Trustees, Genesis Foundation, said, “Girls have the advantage of being biologically stronger, yet they are denied timely medical treatment. There is also significant gender bias that exists in the acceptance of heart surgery among children. It is high time that we push away the gender discrimination and nurture the child to overcome obstacles in life and grow up to be a successful individual. At Genesis Foundation we believe life is precious, and no child should

die due to lack of funds or medical treatment. We envision an India devoid of deaths caused due to CHD because of lack of awareness, diagnosis or resources. Pernod has been a constant support for GF and we are delighted to embark on this new journey with them to Save Little Hearts.”

about genesis foundationGenesis Foundation facilitates medical treatment for critically ill under-privileged children suffering with Heart Disorders. The support required in the said critical illness varies from specific surgeries (including neonatal), Cath Lab Interventions along with recovery and recuperation post-surgery.

So far, they have supported medical treatment of over 1650 critically ill children. The children supported by the Foundation belong to families with an income of less than Rs 10,000 per month and the parents and caregivers are unable to afford treatment of these children who suffer from a serious life-threatening ailment. GF is registered under Section 12-A and 80-G of the Income Tax Act, which entitles 50% tax exemption. GF is also registered under FCRA allowing it to receive foreign funds.

TAFE - Tractors and Farm Equipment Limited, India’s second largest tractor manufacturer, has announced the

national expansion of its CSR initiative - ‘JFarm Services’ and the ‘JFarm Services App’. With this pioneering platform, TAFE brings the benefits of the technology-enabled sharing economy to boost the income of Indian farmers. JFarm Services facilitates the hiring of tractors and modern farm machinery to farmers free of cost. Farmers looking to rent their existing tractors and farm equipment are linked directly to farmers seeking to hire them through the free of cost “Farmer-to-Farmer model” (F2F) of JFarm Services app which enables them to contact farmer entrepreneurs, negotiate rental prices and fulfill their respective requirement.

Despite nearly 65% Indians working in the farm sector, India’s agricultural yields trail global and emerging market averages. More than 20 crore Indian farmers have little or no access to mechanized tools. Any effort to bring about a paradigm shift in productivity and farm income has to be centered on the small farmers, who account for 86% of India’s farmland holding.

Farmers who own small parcels of land across India can now hire state-of-the-art farm equipment to increase their productivity and income significantly. The JFarm Services App and on ground Custom Hiring Centers which are operated by tractor and equipment owners will provide farmers with affordable farm mechanization services in a transparent manner. sODexO stOp huNGeR FOuNDAtiON extends partnership with AsymCA to help end childhood hungerSodexo Stop Hunger Foundation announced that it is

extending its partnership with the Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) and providing a $100,000 grant to improve access to nutritious food to help end childhood hunger. The organizations will continue to work together to support the military community by helping to reduce food insecurity among military families. With the generosity of organizations like Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation, ASYMCA can help stop military family hunger through programs and services supporting young, low-income military families.

“Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation is proud to partner with ASYMCA to support innovative programs aimed at ending child hunger in America today because all children deserve access to sufficient healthy food, so they can learn, play, and thrive,” said Gerri Mason Hall, Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation Chair and Chief Human Resources Officer, Sodexo North America.

ASYMCA Branches provide nutritional resources like food pantries, neighborhood fresh food exchanges, and healthy food at child development centers, camps and after-school programs. The new Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation funding extends financial support to child development programs located at two additional major military installations, Fort Bliss, in Texas, supported by ASYMCA El Paso, and Fort Sill, in Oklahoma, supported by ASYMCA Lawton.

Food insecurity is prevalent in military families and increases the risk of health conditions that may impact military readiness. With Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation’s support, ASYMCA will further its efforts to teach military families about making healthful food choices, growing fresh vegetables and fruit at home and at ASYMCA’s community gardens, and attending healthy cooking classes. These experiences contribute to the well-being of military families, which is vital to the success of our junior enlisted service members.

“Access to quality, affordable child care is a critical enabler to military spouse employment, which can reduce food insecurity,” said ASYMCA President and CEO Bill French. “The grant from the Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation helps us provide this valuable program to young military families.”

Sodexo has supported ASYMCA’s focus areas of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility

programs for fifteen years. Last year, the Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation funded programs supporting more than 15,900 low to moderate income military children and family members in El Paso, Texas, and San Diego, California. Parents and children were provided healthy meals, taught healthy choices through such tools as low-cost recipe cards, and mobilized to volunteer at their community garden or food exchange.

“There is nothing better than feeding families,” said Carol Herrick, Executive Director of ASYMCA Lawton. “This gift from the Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation will not only provide opportunities to prevent hungry children, but to educate families on how to grow and cook nutritious meals at home. The impact of that is tremendous!”

“With the Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation’s support, we will help transform the lives of thousands of military children and military families,” said Joe Pritchard, Executive Director of ASYMCA El Paso. “The additional funds will allow us to help young military families change their approach to nutrition and health, which will strengthen those families.”

The Armed Services YMCA has served military members and their families for more than 150 years, dating back to the Civil War. In 2017, the ASYMCA supported over 250,000 registrants, offering more than 1.3 million points of service to junior enlisted Soldiers, Marines, Sailors, Airmen, and Coast Guardsmen along with their family members at 200 service centers

in 18 states. The Armed Services YMCA, serving 75 military installations, is able to expand and further that service through the continued support of foundations and organizations like the Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation.

The Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation works with and through partners to help end childhood hunger in the United States because no child should be hungry today or risk being hungry again tomorrow. Sodexo, Inc., which funds all administrative costs, and the nonprofit Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation, mobilize experts, innovators, volunteers and donors to feed children; to advocate for policies to end childhood hunger; and to implement innovative potential solutions, particularly those designed by youth. In 2017, Sodexo contributed over 154,000 in volunteer hours and since 1996 has leveraged nearly $32 million in grant dollars to help end childhood hunger.

the WALmARt FOuNDAtiON announces new round of grants available for CANADiAN ORGANizAtiONs focused on reducing food waste

The Walmart Foundation announced that it is making $1.5 million USD ($1.89 million CAD) available to fund

proposals from eligible non-profit organizations working to reduce food waste in Canada. The Walmart Foundation is seeking proposals from qualified organizations that have experience in formulating, proposing, and implementing food waste reduction efforts. Requests between $300,000 and $1,000,000 (USD) will be considered.

This announcement is part of the Walmart Foundation’s commitment to award $15M USD ($19M CAD) to organizations that help reduce food waste and strengthen food banks in Canada. Previous grants awarded include a total of $6.3 USD granted to organizations leading and innovating in food waste reduction and charitable food recovery.

“The work being accomplished by the outstanding recipients of the Walmart Foundation grants to date is inspiring, and we remain committed to being part of the solution on the important issue of food waste in Canada,” said Kathleen McLaughlin, chief sustainability officer, Walmart Inc., and president of the Walmart Foundation. “Today’s announcement will build upon our efforts to help accelerate momentum to reduce and prevent food waste and alleviate hunger in Canada by investing in infrastructure to move excess perishable food from facilities and farms to the charitable meal system, funding innovative initiatives and advancing successful, existing programs.”

The announcement also builds on the retailer’s commitment to reduce waste in its own operations and achieve zero waste in key markets, including Canada, by 2025. Food waste is an urgent global issue, with substantial repercussions in terms of both food security and the environment. The United Nations Food and Agriculture Programme reports that roughly one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption every year — approximately 1.3 billion tons — gets lost or wasted. In Canada, the cost of food waste was identified as $31 billion in 2014, according to a report from Value Chain Management International, up 15 per cent from 2010.

Walmart’s Food Waste Efforts Walmart is working to achieve zero waste, using the Zero Waste International Alliance definition, across its operations in key markets – including Canada – by 2025. Walmart Canada’s

commitment to reducing food waste includes selling food that is nearing its best before date at a discounted price as part of a Customer Value Program. The retailer has also donated more than 14.5 million pounds of food to food banks across the country through a comprehensive food diversion program which pairs Walmart Canada stores with a local food bank to help get food to those who need it most, aligning with Walmart’s commitment to provide 4 billion meals globally. Today, 244 of Walmart Canada’s stores send organic waste for composting or anaerobic digestion so it doesn’t end up in municipal landfill. Walmart also continues to work with suppliers to improve packaging and food handling processes to maintain quality and freshness.

stANLey bLACk & DeCkeR and DisCOVeRy eDuCAtiON launch groundbreaking initiative “innovation Generation: making an impact”

Stanley Black & Decker, the world’s largest tools and storage company and leader in engineered fastening

and security, and Discovery Education, the leading provider of digital content and professional development for K-12 classrooms, launched “Innovation Generation: Making an Impact”.

This brand-new movement aims to inspire educators and students in grades 6-10 to empower the maker spirit within us all. In celebration of Stanley Black & Decker’s 175th anniversary – and to celebrate the company’s inaugural Maker Month – Innovation Generation: Making an Impact is designed to engage and empower student makers in classrooms nationwide.

“Stanley Black & Decker’s corporate social responsibility

strategy is focused on empowering those who are doing the work of creating and shaping the world around us,” said Stanley Black & Decker President and Chief Executive Officer Jim Loree. “Together with Discovery Education, we’re proud that ‘Innovation Generation’ during Maker Month will help inspire the next-generation of leaders to develop the skills necessary to build the future.”

Powered by Stanley Black & Decker’s tools, with powerful brands such as DEWALT, CRAFTSMAN, STANLEY, IRWIN and BLACK+DECKER, together with Discovery Education’s unparalleled classroom reach, Innovation Generation: Making an Impact will fuel student learning with a premiere, STEAM-focused, cross-disciplinary initiative that invites students and educators to explore their worlds through building, making and doing.

Alongside Stanley Black & Decker experts, Innovation Generation will provide students with opportunities to learn about diverse STEAM careers in context – connecting them with examples of real-world applications. Exploring direct connections to vocational STEAM, young innovators will engage in virtual field trips, maker activities and a national student contest that represents the innovation continuum. This will ensure that students are exposed first-hand to how math, science, technology, creativity and teamwork can lead to technological advancements in everyday lives.

“The ‘Innovation Generation: Making an Impact’ initiative is fantastic because it connects my students to real-world examples of STEAM in action. It is powerful for them to see that people can go on to use STEAM skills for careers of the

future,” said Francie Snyder, Educator of the Gifted, School District of Manatee County, Florida. “The best education I can provide for my students includes exposing them to life outside of the four walls of our classroom – everybody needs to know how to problem solve, no matter their zip code. I want them to see that although the world seems big, they can be dynamically prepared to make their mark within it.”

Innovation Generation: Making an Impact complements Stanley Black & Decker’s existing maker-focused efforts – including Makerspace collaboration initiatives with universities and other organizations, global apprenticeship programs, sponsorship

of WorldSkills International, and the company’s recent announcement of its Manufactory 4.0 initiative that includes job retraining efforts and the STANLEY+Techstars Additive Manufacturing Accelerator program.

“Discovery Education is proud to join Stanley Black & Decker in their mission to encourage students to explore the world through building, making and doing with the launch of ‘Innovation Generation,’” said Lori McFarling, senior vice president and chief marking officer, Discovery Education. “Today’s educators are seeking ways to inspire students through STEAM and 21st-century students need advanced training, innovative digital content and immersive classroom experiences to produce solutions for the nation’s most pressing challenges – ‘Innovation Generation’ provides just that.”

UNICEF launched a new partnership with Microsoft Corp. to tackle the education crisis impacting children

and young people affected by conflict and natural disasters, and to provide them with protection services. Under this partnership, UNICEF in collaboration with Microsoft and the University of Cambridge, are developing a ‘learning passport’ – a digital platform that will facilitate learning opportunities for children and young people within and across borders. The learning passport will be tested and piloted in countries hosting refugees, migrants and internally displaced persons.

“Conflicts and natural disasters have disrupted learning opportunities and the quality of education for 75 million children and young people, many of whom have migrated across borders or been forcibly displaced,” said Henrietta Fore, UNICEF Executive Director. “The learning passport is a great example of how we can use technological innovations to help the world’s future doers, thinkers and leaders – wherever they are and no matter the challenges.”

Currently, many education systems in countries hosting refugees are struggling to acknowledge and recognize what refugee and migrant children and young people have already learned in school, making it impossible to provide them with the right level of education and, in the long term, limiting their employment prospects.

“A digitally inclusive world starts with ensuring that all young people, no matter their situation, have access to a digital education,” said President of Microsoft Brad Smith. “This partnership is focused on creating scalable learning solutions to help millions of displaced and refugee children gain the skills they need to thrive.” Under the new partnership Microsoft and UNICEF will also develop new innovations to protect children and young people affected by

emergencies, scaling up UNICEF’s digital child protection case management system.

“This is a vital partnership, as bringing together committed partners such as Microsoft, who are willing to utilize their resources and expertise, will help to solve the biggest challenges for the world’s children,” said Caryl Stern, President and CEO, UNICEF USA. “All over the world, I have borne witness to the irreplaceable value education provides to children, especially to those who have had to leave their homes. Together, education and protection empower children to have a brighter future, and we look forward to seeing the

impact of this powerful collaboration.”“This is a unique opportunity to work together to create

a bespoke system of education that will help displaced children and young people fulfill their potential, and release their talents into a world that needs them,” Chief Executive of Cambridge University Press Peter Phillips.

Nagarro, a technology company founded by young technocrats with a vision of providing cutting edge technology solutions to address client needs. The spirit of doing good and making a positive impact on the economic bottom line along with social and environmental bottom line is already ingrained in the philosophy and culture of Nagarro from the very inception. Thereby the spirit of triple bottom line - the essence of CSR already being ingrained in the philosophy of Nagarro, its CSR journey makes an interesting reading and an inspiration for all stakeholders of CSR.

Tech powerhouse Nagarro drives technology-led business breakthroughs for industry leaders and challengers. Very simply, says the company, “When our clients want to move fast and make things

happen, it is us they turn to.”Established in 1996, Nagarro began as the collective

dream of a group of friends who wanted to build a company with a difference – a company that focused on “strategic differentiation via technology” initiatives rather than routine IT operations. As it grew, it maintained an orientation towards new technologies, complex applications, innovative solutions and decision sciences. It now works extensively across the globe, providing agile IT services and next-generation software solutions to industry big-wigs. With most IT vendors using commodity engineers to address each project the same way, Nagarro has built a reputation because of its sharp and driven experts who help major technology firms tackle complex, multidisciplinary challenges in innovative, cost-effective, and game-changing ways. “The

customers of NAGARRO rely on them to keep pace with new expectations, new possibilities, and new competitors because the world is changing faster every day.”

NAGARRO focus on achieving this by inculcating a culture of attracting and empowering bright and zealous people with the freedom to take decisions they deem best for their customers. This, accompanied by an extremely flat culture, allows Nagarro to deliver on its promise of enterprise consonant with its customers while providing solid learning and rapid-growth experience to its people.

Today, Nagarro comprises more than 5,000 specialists across 20 countries, and is the global services division of Munich-based Allgeier SE.

To understand how the company’s spearheading of CSR initiatives is a natural progression from its core culture, a look at its business approach is rewarding.

Nagarro specialises in the “change the business” end of the spectrum of technology services. It helps its clients move fast to protect themselves against digital disruptions or backs

them to become disrupters themselves, explains a senior staffer.

They are the main digital products R&D partner for the firm whose equipment orchestrates the lighting at the White House, the Statue of Liberty, the Taj Mahal, several major stadia, all Apple stores, and virtually every other celebrity home.

They are currently rebuilding the leading flight-planning software (LIDO, which points commercial pilots to the precise route which will save the most fuel and time), as well as the API strategy and digital presence for one of their clients.

Nagarro is one of only five global value suppliers for an IT giant, working across many countries and divisions including Energy and Road & City Mobility. It is one of the eight most preferred vendors to New York City, implementing several of NYC’s digital programmes. It is a vendor to the world’s largest maker of bottling machines, and to the world leader in food and beverage manufacturing intelligence (Nagarro rebuilt their flagship product on the cloud and with IoT in

mind).Providing cutting-edge technology solutions to partners is

Nagarro’s forte.

SERVICES OF NAGARROThe company’s core offerings are application development and product engineering, with cutting-edge areas such as digital innovation, Big Data, IoT, wearables, cloud services and next-gen user experience.

Nagarro’s IoT framework, Integration-Cognition-Automation, is structured in a way that ensures continuous value generation from the IoT ecosystem; product engineering – Nagarro provides expertise across the value chain, from concept to design to development, and resource elasticity.

Nagarro’s definition of managing client demands has been incorporated as its tagline : “Thinking Breakthroughs.” The company states that it wants to dispense with the age-old process of demand and supply and adopt an innovative problem-solving approach. Clients do not seek a service; they place problems to which Nagarro provides solutions.

Nagarro is a hybrid model of working. They pride themselves on solving the most complex technology challenges in an agile way. And they do this for hundreds of customers, ranging from Fortune 500 giants to startups. They are known for driving breakthrough innovation, for making complex cool, for having very high technical and quality standards. Systems, they have created run a good chunk of the world today.

Vision : To be a giant-killertech services company (a household name that outlives us) that is distinguished by its superior technical wizardry, innovation, quality, customer centricity and, particularly, agility.”

Mission : “To make distance irrelevant between intelligent people.” This indicates that people who are intelligent will use trust and understanding to bridge the distance between themselves; and make distance irrelevant

when dealing with clients, partners, and other external stakeholders, wherever in the world they may be, say Nagarrians.

Values : Nagarro’s core values which are the guiding principles behind decisions they make, how they act, and what they expect from Nagarrians – can be summed up in one word: ‘CARING’.

They have a culture of being flexible and easy to work with, of intense collaboration between teams that may be several thousand miles apart, and of being fiercely customer-centric. Their core values are enshrined as ‘CARING’ (Customer-centric, Agile, Responsible, Intelligent, Non-hierarchical, Global) and are a clear reflection of their culture.

On the one hand, this denotes a humanistic, human-first way of thinking and nurturing. On the other hand, it implies an emphasis on ethics.

C IS FOR ClIENT-CENTRIC “We think up breakthroughs for our clients. We start with the client’s strategic goals and apply tech to achieve them. We never forget that the client’s business pays our bills. We do not subscribe to a perpetually defensive way of working with our clients. Instead we want to work with them in a positive partnership.”

A IS FOR AGIlE“We are responsive, we move fast. We like POCs,

hackathons, MVPs. Agile doesn’t mean absence of process. We trust process, but we prefer crisp, analytics-driven, automated processes. Nagarro provides an environment that encourages experimentation; recognizes and rewards efforts; accepts failure with an understanding that it often precedes success.”

R IS FOR RESpONSIblE“We don’t behave like guests at Nagarro, we consider ourselves responsible for everything. We own the outcome of the work we are doing, and we also own our dependencies. When something fails, we introspect, we hunt for what we should have done better. At Nagarro, individuals lead by example and act as inspiration for others. We make ‘thought-through’ commitments and take ownership of delivery of the business objectives.”

I IS FOR INTEllIGENT“The ideal Nagarrian has what we call ‘bridge-shaped skills’ – in-depth skills and expertise in a few select areas along with the ability to link and engage with diverse topics (in other words, eclectic interests). We dive into technical problems with enthusiasm and confidence. We ask probing questions (like ‘Why would you say that?’, ‘What does it mean precisely?’, ‘What can we do with it?’). We enjoy

problem-solving.”

N IS FOR NON-hIERARChICAl“For us, data wins, not designation. We don’t give unnecessary weightage to hierarchy, while recognizing that some roles have a wider supervisory scope than others. Nagarro empowers individuals to be solution-providers and enables a plateau work environment where everyone’s point of view is encouraged and given due consideration.”

G IS FOR GlObAl“We are not a ‘front-end, back-end’ company. For each project, we work as a global team. We know that ‘working by remote’ requires trust and understanding. We guard against misunderstandings that can be caused by physical distance. And we are open-minded, not ‘territorial’. We are inter-culturally elastic and deliberately amorphous. We are not a US/German/Indian et al company – we are global. At the same time, we are open-minded, not territorial.”

EMplOYEE STRENGTh & GEOGRAphICAl SpREADNagarro’s employee strength is 5,000 and counting; its geographic spread extends to more than 20 countries. Some places that they call home are – Chicago, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Leipzig, London, Monterrey, Munich, New

COMpANY STRUCTURENagarro’s company structure is a bureaucracy-free, entrepreneurial environment in which people pursue breakthrough innovation, high-quality solutions and client delight. Nagarro is a global, non-hierarchical, flat organisation with a friendly, non-political environment.

EThICAl ASpECTS OF ThE bUSINESS pROCESSImpressively, there is a strong emphasis on ethical aspects in its corporate culture. They embrace differences and diversity, and do not judge or act based upon any preconceived notions or cultural stereotypes. They believe one should be respectful towards everyone. They create an environment in which people feel free to share their opinion scandidly and do not hesitate in receiving and acting on feedback.

They value diversity and inclusion. Distinctiveness is

welcomed so that merit is rewarded. Opportunities to grow are plenty, right from the beginning, for each Nagarrian – even if differently abled or with special needs. People here are self-motivated and self-disciplined and have a well-developed sense of ownership with a solution-focused approach.”As a socially conscious organisation with an eye on responsibilities, Nagarro’s CSR strategy objectives are thus outlined: a. Ensure increased commitment at all levels of the

organisation, to operate its business in an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable manner while recognising the interests of all stakeholders.

b. To directly or indirectly take up programmes benefitting communities in and around the work centre and resulting over time in enhancing the quality of life and economic well-being of the local population.

c. To generate through its CSR initiative, goodwill for Nagarro and reinforce a positive and socially responsible image of Nagarro as a corporate entity.

The company has hired four differently abled individuals, with locomotive disability and visual impairment, in the visitor management sphere.

UplIFTMENT OF ThE UNDERpRIVIlEGEDThe principle behind this initiative is that, as more people earn livelihoods, society and the nation progress. Nagarro offers free vocational training to people from economically weaker sections. The key vocational programmes include a mechanic course with Maruti, a VLCC beautician course, a basic sewing course, an NIIT basic spoken English course, and a computer course. The company also works to encourage computer literacy among underprivileged children. One of Nagarro’s Sweden-based clients funded a computer education programme for 25 students at Deepalaya NGO.

ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINAbIlITY#GIVEUp TO GIVE bACK

Another frontrunner initiative by Nagarro, this campaign aims to inspire people to give up specific habits (like use of plastic) which are harming the environment, and as an alternative make environment-friendly choices. On 24 March Nagarro supported the WWF #earthhour2018 launch, when the company pledged to give up use of plastic.

TREE plANTATION DRIVES“We are passionate about preserving our planet and every year, around Independence Day, we make a pledge to keep Earth green through tree plantation drives.” Nagarro plants saplings in different areas with the objective of creating greener landscapes and helping sustenance of nature. Plus,it contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissionby backing citizens in enforcing laws against waste burning.

SUSTAINAbIlITY pRACTICESEnvironmental guardianship is deeply ingrained in the company’s culture and it has implemented various pollution control strategies to reduce its carbon footprint. Walkathons, cyclothons and marathons are initiatives which contribute to disseminating this message. Nagarro hasset up cycle stations at its offices to promote the concept of a sustainable workplace. to save a five-year-old girl with a congenital life-threatening disease. Around 550 Nagarrians came forward to register in the Datri Blood Stem Cell Donors Registry in support.

CSR TEAM-ORGANISATIONThe CSR team behind all this comprises Kiran Bisht, Tanya Taneja, Neeraj Chhibba, Ashok Thomas, Shruti Tandon and Sreeparna Ghosh. The CSR Committee members are tasked with reviewing and approving changes in the CSR policy, finalising the budget for CSR activities, approving CSR projects, assigning project leads for approved CSR projects from within the CSR Sub-Committee, reviewing CSR projects and changes made to project plans, and approving disbursement of funds according to progress reports. Meanwhile, the CSR Sub-Committee member tasks are to take up CSR projects as project leads, plan and monitor CSR projects, report on status of CSR projects periodically to the CSR Committee, provide feedback to the CSR Committee for improvement in the CSR policy, visit CSR project sites and

assess progress and efficacy of the projects.

CSR bUDGETA word on the budget for CSR activities – it is decided by the CSR Committee annually, based on the projects approved for the year, and is not less than 2% of the average profit (before tax) for the previous three years. Any surplus arising out of the CSR projects or activities does not form part of the company profit.

The investment in CSR is project-based, with periodic milestones being established at the project outset. Nagarro also has flagship programmes which involve considerable financial commitment and last two to five years. They are accorded enhanced significance.

Project activities can be implemented either by the company itself or through specialised agencies which would include but is not limited to voluntary organisations, formal and informal elected bodies such as panchayats, institutes, academic institutions, trusts, self-help groups, and

government, semi-government or autonomous organisations, Mahila Mandals, professional consultancy bodies and the like.

Programmes focused on the areas adjoining Nagarro work centres give preference to these neighbourhoods for spending CSR funds.

In Nagarro’s vision, CSR has a strategic connect with its core business. As a company representative puts it, “We are here to create corporate sustainable value which aligns with our strategic idea of doing business. Our future plan is to make an inclusive workplace which creates a collaborative

environment and enables us to seamlessly adapt to any changing requirement of our surroundings.”

“We are working for both people and the planet and this will be part of our long-term profit – which is deriving a better place to live. We want to take up the responsibility of leaving a better world for the next generation, giving them an opportunity to breathe clean air, and inculcate empathy and responsibility by educating them about our environment and its importance. We will work until the day we are able to change people’s attitude from ignorant to responsible about our surroundings. We wish to work until the day when we do not need a CSR ruling, we want to make the adoptive mindset a part of individuals, beginning with our company and colleagues.”

IMpACT OF CSR ACTIVITIES CSR at Nagarro has created a considerable 2-way impact –

on its own people and on the surroundings.CSR initiatives have become an indispensable part of

people at Nagarro. They work enthusiastically with full zeal and support and never refrain from backing up the CSR team. They believe in the concept of giving back to the environment.

On the other hand, Nagarro CSR activities have helped generate awareness to prosperity in the lives of many who are a part of the campaign directly or indirectly. Nagarro believes in bringing about an elemental change in the lives of those for whom they matter. With their regular blood donation drives, they are able to generate hundreds of units of blood which is in turn used by hundreds of people in need of blood. Haryana Vision Zero project is a way of looking forward and driving an entire issue of reducing road fatalities to zero, not only in Gurgaon but in the entire state. The pledge to fight road accidents and support pedestrians and cyclists is because Nagarro understands the pain of not being able to walk or cycle or breathe freely. With plantation drives, the trees are not only planted but also maintained, Nagarro is a firm believer of bringing about the desired change over a course of time, by doing things rather than just waiting for it to happen. The awareness level has gone up and so is the sensitivity amongst people around and it is certain that a regular uninterrupted service will bring about the desired change.

wAY AhEAD / FUTURE plANS• Keeping up the momentum of the existing flagship

programs• Generating more recognition towards the need of society• Tying up with NGO’s to offer more support• Working towards creating a better and sustainable

Nagarro took up the challenge through its flagship CSR project haryana Vision Zero to ensure zero death on the road due to road accidents which they achieved through an innovative approach. Similarly, the various initiatives undertaken with complete involvement of the employees creates an image of being a responsible CSR oriented company matching with the needs of the time. And irrespective of any statute or mandate, we will remain committed to raise the bar higher every single time.

Q Which are the key csR projects of nagarro and which one do you consider your flagship project?

A We recognise that to bring about a change, we must work on different critical issues of society. On the same

lines, the CSR initiatives of Nagarro stand on three pillars, viz., community reach-out, environment and sustainability, and people enablement.

Haryana Vision Zero – our flagship project in collaboration with Hero MotoCorp and WRI India – promotes the cause of road safety. Through this initiative we envisage reaching zero fatalities on roads. We delegate RSAs (Road Safety Associates) to survey accident-prone areas and suggest measures to curb accidents and fatalities on roads.

Q Are the CSR projects of Nagarro limited to any specific area?

A We do what we feel needs the attention of a corporate. For example, giving up plastic, segregating waste, etc.,

are some of the areas that makes us feel more responsible towards the society at large. We do not want to limit

ourselves to only some things; rather, we would want to create a better impact on the community around us by exploring newer avenues to address the global community challenges.

Q What is the level of top management involvement in CSR? Can you give a few examples?

A I believe that, as a part of the organisation, all our colleagues are equally participative, irrespective of

their designations.

Q What is the level of employee engagement and involvement in the CSR activities of Nagarro?

A CSR is deeply ingrained in the culture of Nagarro and our colleagues equally contribute and support every

cause. I am glad to say that we do not have to push our people to be a part of any programme we run, rather, we have such a great workforce that they feel involved and participate enthusiastically in every single programme.

Q Do you think the CSR potential is fully actualised in Nagarro?

A There is always scope for improvement in whatever we do. Nagarro is constantly innovating in every way

possible to explore and reach out to problem areas to create sustainable value. We are open to doing anything we feel can create a positive impact. u

One of the first organisation to tackle cross border health issues was the pan American sanitary bureau, formed in 1902 by 11 countries in America. The primary goal was to control infectious

diseases. In 1948 United Nations formed the first truly Global Health institution the World Health Organisation (WHO). ‘Health for all by year 2000’ was proposed, to achieve providing Universal access to Primary Health Care worldwide. Thereafter four inexpensive interventions proposed, collectively known as GOBI : growth monitoring, oral rehydration, breastfeeding, and immunization for diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, polio, TB, and measles. GOBI later was expended to GOBI-FFF, which included female education, food and family planning. HIV/AIDS first described in 1981, and emerged as a global disease, and which also strained malaria and TB Control Programme, continued to take as many lives as ever. At the dawn of the 21st century, these three diseases alone killed nearly 6 million people per year. Hence new research, new policies and new funding mechanism were called for, like Global fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and malaria , U.S. president’s emergency plan for AIDS relief (PEPFAR), Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

At a United Nations Summit in 2000, member nations declared eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs),for human development globally, by 2015. Building on the MDGs, a new Sustainable Development Agenda with 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has been established for the years 2016-2030. The first goal being pledge to end poverty. This 2030 Development Agenda was titled ‘Transforming our world’.

Lower respiratory tract infection (3M deaths per year)being the fourth and most deadly communicable diseases. Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease being the fifth killer.Lung, bronchial and tracheal cancer being 6th killer (1.7 M deaths per year). Diabetes(7th) killed 1.6 M per year. Road injuries(8th) killed 1.4M peoples in 2016. Diarrhoeal disease(9th) still kills 1.4M peoples. Tuberculosis is the 10th cause of death, killing 1.3M peoples.

incidence declined from 173 new and relapse cases per 100 000 population in 2000 to 140 per 100 000 population in 2016 - a 19% decline over the 16-year period. The TB mortality rate among HIV-negative people fell by 39% during the same period. In 2016, an estimated 10.4 million people fell ill with TB.

The global burden of death due to hiv/aids and malaria was on upward slope until 2004, significant improvement has been documented thereafter. Global deaths from hiv infection in 2016 was one million. Globally, HIV incidence has declined from 0.40 per 1000 uninfected population in 2005 to 0.26 per 1000 uninfected population in 2016.The global scale-up of antiretroviral therapy (ART) has been the main driver of the 48% decline in HIV-related deaths.

Globally, an estimated 216 million cases of malaria occurred in 2016, compared with 237 million cases in 2010.Malaria claimed the lives of approximately 445 000 people in 2016.

The world’s population is living longer; global life expectancy has increased to 71.8 years in 2015. This demographic change accompanied by the fact that the prevalence of NCD increases with age, which have surpassed communicable, maternal, nutritional and neonatal diseases. In 2016, an estimated 41 million deaths occurred due to NCD, accounting for 71% of the overall total of 57 million deaths. The majority of such deaths were caused by the four main NCDs, namely: cardiovascular disease (44% of all NCD deaths); cancer (22%); chronic respiratory obstructive disease (9%); and diabetes (4%). Reducing premature NCD mortality by one third by 2030 will require the acceleration of progress, including action to reduce key risk factors such as tobacco use, air pollution, unhealthy diet, physical

inactivity and harmful use of alcohol. Global risk factors for disease burden, as per 2015 in

decreasing order are : Hypertension, smoking, high fasting blood sugar, high BMI, childhood underweight, particulate matter pollution, high cholesterol, household air-pollution, alcohol, high sodium intake, low whole grain intake, unsafe sex, low fruit intake, unsafe water and low Glomerular filtration rate.

WHO estimated that roughly one quarter of total global diseases can be prevented by modifiable environmental factors. Ninety four percent of diarrhoeal diseases link to unsafe drinking water and poor sanitation.

Indoor air pollution due to use of solids fuels and tobacco smoke, and outdoor air pollution accounts for 20% of lower respiratory tract infection in developed countries ; and 42% of infection in developing countries.

Every minute a woman dies from complications from childbirth. An estimated 303 000 women worldwide died due to maternal causes in 2015. Maternal mortality crucially depends upon ensuring that women have access to quality care before, during and after childbirth. More than 90% of all births benefited from the presence of a trained professional.

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is transmitted through unprotected sex, unclean needles, blood transfusions, and from mother to child during birth or lactation. Globally, HIV is primarily spread through sexual

intercourse. Malaria is a mosquito-borne infectious disease. The

use of insecticide-treated bednets during night sleep, is a cost-effective way to reduce deaths from malaria. Spraying insecticide indoor controls malaria only if most (80%)of the structure targeted community are treated.

Undernutrition impairs the immune system, increasing the frequency, severity, and duration of infections (including measles, pneumonia, and diarrhea). Deficiencies of micronutrient, such as vitamin A, iron, iodine, and zinc, are common worldwide. This may compromise intellectual potential, growth, development. Prevention is done by adding micronutrient supplementation/fortification.

Tobacco use is a major risk factor for cardiovascular

disease (CVD), cancers and chronic respiratory disease. In 2016, globally more than 1.1 billion people aged 15 years or older smoked tobacco (34% of all males and 6% of all females). More than one billion people will die of tobacco, in the 21st century.

Almost 800000 deaths by suicide occurred in 2016(Men are 75%). An estimated 477 000 murders occurred globally in 2016, with four fifths of all homicide victims being male.

Latest estimates indicate that in 2016, one in 10 children worldwide did not receive even the first dose of diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine. Measles vaccine (MCV2) increased from 39% to 64% but this is still insufficient to prevent measles outbreaks and avoid preventable deaths. Global coverage levels of rotavirus vaccine and pneumococcal-conjugate vaccine (PCV) are still

under 50%. More than one billion people were treated for at least

one neglected tropical disease in 2015. They are variously caused by bacteria (Trachoma, Leprosy), viruses (Dengue, Rabies), protozoa(Human African trypanosomiasis, Chagas), and helminths (Schistosomiasis, Onchocerciasis, Soil transmitted helminths).

Obesity, a preventable condition, is associated with numerous chronic diseases, including cardiovascular conditions, stroke, certain cancers, and respiratory diseases.

Global interventions for improving child health and survival, include the promotion of breastfeeding, zinc supplementation, vitamin A fortification, salt iodization, hygiene interventions such as hand-washing, vaccinations, and treatments of malnutrition. Nonetheless, every day in 2016,15000 children died before reaching their fifth birthday. Children face the highest risk of dying in their first month of life, with 2.6 million newborns died in 2016. Among these children, acute respiratory infections, diarrhoea and malaria were the leading causes of death.

Over 3 billion people still cooking with polluting stove and fuel combinations. The resulting household air pollution is estimated to have caused 3.8 million deaths In 2016, 91% of the world’s population did not breathe clean air, and more than half of urban population were exposed to outdoor air pollution levels at least 2.5 times above the safety standard set by WHO.

Unsafe drinking water, unsafe sanitation and lack of hygiene also remain important causes of death, with an estimated 870 000 associated deaths occurring in 2016.

In 2017, the Global Task Force on Cholera Control released a global strategy, Ending Cholera a global roadmap to 2030, that aims to reduce cholera deaths by 90%, and to eliminate cholera in up to 20 countries.

A combination of habitat destruction and increased production of carbon dioxide and SLCPs(Short Lived Climate Pollutants) causes global warming. The temperature of the globe is rising, and if current trends continue, warming by 4°C is predicted by 2050. The climate is being affected putting millions of people at risk of rising sea levels, flooding, droughts and failed crops.

WHO estimates that 80 percent of all cases of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes as well as 40 percent of all cancer cases can be prevented through healthy diet, increased physical activity and avoidance of tobacco.

Global health diseases can be avoided with, controlling blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, BMI, sodium intake; avoiding pollution, smoking, alcohol ; taking balanced diet, adequate whole grain/ fruits ; maintaining clean surrounding/sanitation, safe water, safe sex, daily exercise, timely vaccination, professional assisted delivery, last but not least positive thinking. u

SUI-DHAAGAA sweet and simple film that carries a feel-good factor all along

A sweet family movie based on a simple storyline. But the craftsmanship of the director and the actors make it a worthwhile watch. While Varun Dhawan has proved once again his skills as a serious actor, Anushka Sharma reminds us of her initial movies when we loved her beauty and

charm as an Indian lady. ‘Sab Badhiya hai’ is the mantra that Mauji (Varun Dhawan) lives by. Even

if his life is plagued by a disrespectful job, a father who considers him good for nothing, a stuck up relationship with his wife and to top it all a poor & meagre lifestyle. Par Sab Badhiya hai, the dominating theme on which the entire film rests. The indomitable spirit, optimistic and never say die attitude which makes people successful through their hardships.

Mauji works as a helper in a shop that sells sewing machines also doing odd jobs for his bosses which includes playing a dog to entertain people at his self-respect’s behest. Mauji is married to Mamta (Anushka Sharma) but their relationship is stagnant because life and in laws constantly come between them. Mauji has a sweet mother (Yamini Das) who lingers around and a father (Raghubir Yadav) who is always taunting his son. A simple small time family of everyday life set in a big city.

Varun Dhawan is once again exceptional .Anushka plays the quite & subdued wife but she is the brains behind Mauji. She does not guide Mauji but hints and directs him and Mauji takes care of the rest. Anushka lets her expressions do most of the work and is good in many parts. Yamini and Raghubir play their parts to perfection and lend solid support.

Directed by Sharat Katariya, remember Dum Laga ke Haisha? Yes, he is the same director. Once again he comes with a sweet and simple story of everyday life and endears us. His direction is so grounded to reality that it’s almost unbelievable at times. It’s those little moments in the film that steals the cherry on the cake. The pacing of the film is found to be a bit slow in the first half does much better in the second half. The characters are so well written and grounded to reality which helps immensely to the film’s cause. Sound is one very important aspect of this film to show the struggles, the little happiness, the tension in between characters and it doesn’t let down. The film does not have over the top motivational dialogues or melodrama to get its point across. It uses its characters simplicity do the talking. The movie just hints at how the artisans of our country always gets the raw deal and they need recognition. But does not go any deeper. It’s centred around the protagonist Mauji’s life and how that affects him and his closed ones. The movie also shows the beauty of a marriage. It busts the myth that ‘behind every successful man there is a woman.’ It shows that beside every successful man there is a woman walking side by side with him matching steps with him and supporting him in his hardships. But still takes the backseat guiding her man at important junctures.

Sui Dhaaga is a warm and beautiful film. It tells us to keep fighting and to not get bogged down by the hurdles that life throws at us. Sui Dhaaga is a sweet and simple film that carries a feel-good factor all along. The characters are adorable, and it has a good mix of light-humour and emotion. In one line – ‘sab badhiya hai’.

being An effective CommunicatorPowerful leaders know when to talk and when to listen. They are effective communicators and are able to clearly and succinctly explain to their employees everything from organizational goals to specific tasks. If people don’t understand or aren’t aware of your expectations, they will fall short, so the more specific you can be, the better. You need to be able to communicate on all levels: one on one, to the department and to the entire staff, as well as via phone, email and social media. Communication is built on a steady flow of verbal and nonverbal exchanges of ideas and information, so work on being approachable and involving people from different level.

Setting Clear Goals and Persisting In Achieving ThemSet clear goals and be determined and purposeful in achieving them. Back it all up with unshakable self-confidence. If you radiate enthusiasm and are truly excited about what you’re doing, people will be naturally drawn to you.Remember that writing your goals down is the key to success of both you and your company. But accomplishing those goals takes time. If you give up, so will everyone around you. To be a successful leader, you must be willing to keep going when others are tempted to throw in the towel.

having A Vision For The FutureExceptional leaders have the ability to look into their company’s future and make clear, concrete goals that will benefit their organization. They are confident and optimistic, inspiring enthusiasm in those around them. Being a visionary is about managing change while striking a balance between stability and growth. One must incorporate new approaches without

getting distracted from the main goals. Being a visionary means understanding that continuous change is occurring all around you, so what worked in the past may not always work now

Managing Complexity Leaders must be problem solvers who can make decisions under rapidly shifting circumstances. Learning to lead in a complex environment is a vital skill for any leader. Even before any definitive information is available, effective leaders must assess a situation’s complexity and choose appropriate courses of action. Leaders should be able to scan the environment in search of subtle trends and indicators of disruptive change, and establish practices that allow the organization to respond swiftly.

Fostering Creativity And InnovationLeaders must have the courage to risk experimentation and encourage creativity. Doing this will foster the innovation that will steer the organization to new destinations and around the twists and turns of a changing business landscape. The key is to always be persistent in pursuing your goals, and open minded and flexible in how you get there. Encourage the people around you to spend at least 15 percent of their time exploring new ideas through brainstorming and prototyping.

“If you want to improve the

organization, you have to improve yourself and the

organization gets pulled up with you.”

CSR VISION is really a unique magazine since it covers social works being carried forward by the untold activist. Whereas mainstream media runs after glamour and political charisma, your magazine makes rainbow coverage of the noble works which generally get unnoticed.

— Aman Verma, Lucknow

CSR VISION is a mass of information which could help any researcher, corporate or student working for social sector in a CSR angle.

— Radhika Parashar, Noida

I would love to congratulate the research and editorial team for bringing out the major issues in the form of governance watch and society watch column. Well Done CSR VISION

— Akash Mandal, Delhi

Through its one of the prominent column called Interview of the Month, we always get the chance to know the view of the eminent and leading personalities on CSR. keep up the good work.

— Shobhit Sharma, Mumbai

We have been working hard to ensure transformational change at the grass-roots level through our various CSR initiatives. The cover story on CSR Vision captures our enthusiasm and our earnest effort to bring a positive change in the society. SOBHA will continue working towards poverty alleviation, providing primary education, healthcare, and women empowerment. And your help in letting the world know about it through your magazine motivates and pushes us to do more. This is a replicable model that Mr. PNC Menon, our founder has created very passionately. For us, CSR is NOT a gloss on any soiled wall. It is deep-rooted and ingrained in our DNA.

— Abhinav Kanchan (SENIOR VP), SOBHA Ltd
