35 SWOC analysis of the department and Future plans Strengths :
The Strengths of Economics Department of the college refer to the
capacities by which it can gain advantages:-
The Department of Economics plays an important role in the
functioning of KRM DAV College, Nakodar. University results of
students of the college bring laurels to the College. Bhawana Dutta,
Meetika Batra etc are good examples of the results of B.Sc(Eco) at
University level.
Different highly educated and well trained teachers like Sh. B.K.
Sharma, Ms. Jiwan Sood etc. provided their great services to the
department of Economics. They have set examples of value based
education and role model for students.
Teachers present various research papers in National and International
level Seminars/Conferences.
UGC sponsered National level seminar was also organised by the
Departments of Economics in which ICTs were used by teachers and
students.
Teachers induce students to go to library for Reference books, daily
newspapers like The Economic Time, Financial Express and different
Research Journals concerning Economics.
Students are motivated to participate in inter college competitions.
The Department of Economics provides special provision of books to
be issued to students for the entire semester to make students aware of
current knowledge in the class rooms(Discussions and Seminars) and
outside the class rooms(NSS,EMA and NCC Activities).

Both staff and students of the Department of Economics are committed
to help the needy persons by providing funds for donation.
Dr. Kamaljit Singh, the faculty member being Ph.D. we have scope for
post graduation in Economics.
Weaknesses:
The Department of Economics has also some limitations resulting into
disadvantages:-
Lack of finance to help needy students.
No catering to the demand of the students for pursuing PG Degree in
Economics.
Less focus on Research and Development activities.
Less number of students preparing for PPT Presentations.
Students from rural background do not prefer and understand the
subject Economics.
Opportunities:
Concessions to students in merit list or at top positions in the
University results.
Rising demands for Economics as a subjects in and outside India.
Research Journals and magazines concerning Economics offer big
opportunities to students to prepare for competitive exams, group
discussions and class rooms seminars.
Teachers are encouraged to undertake Minor/ Major Research Projects.
Students are given opportunities to brighten their personality by
participating in EMA, NCC, NSS and other activities of the college.
Students are also motivated to develop their skills by using ICT,
printing their writings in college magazine and various newspapers.
Challenges:
The department of Economics also faces some unfavourable conditions in
terms of risks and challenges.
Cut through competition from other private colleges, Government
College, and other such institutions in the peripheral surrounding of the
college.
Students prefer to go to big cities.
To increase strength of students in BA/B.Sc(Eco).
To get more grants for Minor/ Major research projects in Economics.

activities:
NSS and NCC students of the department engage in social works
Students take part in various awareness drives taken out from time to

35. SWOC analysis of the department and Future plans
Strengths:
Our college is located in the semi –urban area, the scope to teach
regional language is very high.
Weakness:
The craze amongst the students to move abroad pulls them
towards English language.
The non-availability of language lab. is a big hurdle in the way
of improving the faulty pronunciation of students
Opportunity:
To commence PG course in Punjabi literature
Challenges:
To motivate students to develop a love for their mother –
tongue.
As per the UNO report, Punjabi language would go defunct in
a few years. To maintain its status and to keep it alive and
vibrant is the biggest challenge that we face. But we are
committed to the cause of the spread of our mother tongue to
every nook and cranny of this world
.
