It is truly a scary economic environment right now and stability is a valuable commodity. Walmart understands the relationship with it’s people and commits to doing the right thing. That commitment however is a two way street. It is important that we are teaching and encouraging all associates to understand the basics of Walmart culture. � Service to our Customers. � Strive for Excellence. � Respect to the Individual. If each individual can live up to these basic principles, the marketplace will never force us into a bad position. Tim started out at our store as a Daytime Customer Service Manager. He went overnights in order to complete his Masters Degree in Business Administration. He also holds a Bachelor’s Degree for Business Administration from USF. Before Walmart- Tim worked in a number of management fields- most recently as a Customer Care Manager for ADT Security Services. He also worked for National Linen Services as an Operations Supervisor, and as an Office Supervisor at International Sports Distributors. Outside of work- Tim is a sports enthusiast. He loves to watch basketball, football, and the X-Games. While Tim was in High School- he held the record for being the fastest typist in Manatee County- he could type up to 127 words per minute without any mistakes. In fact- he typed this whole article in less than a minute…... ☺

Tim’s future goals are to utilize his MBA Degree in order to advance in management. He would like to let the associates know that if you set goals for yourself and maintain a positive attitude- success will follow. *****************************

Many people will remember “Wild Bill” for being the guy that perked everyone up in the mornings with his daily page, “Alright alright!! Good morning everyone!” He always had a joke to tell, and was always there to help our customers. He retired a few months ago after working in our store for over 16 years. He quietly passed away at home on August 17th.

I’m sure a lot of you will remember him for different reasons- I will remember him for being the first associate to train me on my first day working here. He taught me a lot about Walmart on those first few days- he will be greatly missed.

We use PDQ display trays daily- we have hundreds of them throughout our store- but does anyone actually know what “PDQ” stands for?

In 1986- Walmart approached Formosa Tools, a Taiwanese company that sells mostly gardening tools. Walmart was interested in putting some of Formosa’s gardening tools into our stores. Formosa’s US representative, Tony Hsu, was working on a unique way to display their line of tools in which the product is shipped to the store already displayed in a cardboard display- all the associate at the store had to do was cut open the box- and display the tray on the shelf- cutting stocking time tremendously. Walmart was interested in this new system and asked Tsu how quickly could an associate get the merchandise to the shelves using his new system. Tsu told Walmart “Pretty Darn Quick”. His idea for the “PDQ” displays took off like crazy. Today his cardboards PDQ displays are used to display everything from toothpaste to stack-bases of DVD’s and can be found virtually in every single major retail outlet.

Our store keeps moving up on the list for being one of the best stores in the country for collecting money for CMN! We were at 16th place- but with the great job by all of our associates- we have now moved up to 7th place! We are so close to taking the #1 spot- so please keep up the great work! The top store in the country is Store #1413- so far they have collected $68,944.88 for the year- our store has $46,599.48- I think we can easily beat them, what do you think??? A little friendly competition never hurt anyone. Plus lets not forget where all this money is going: it helps the kids at All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg.

Having the title of “#1 Store in the Country” for collecting the most money for CMN would be something to be proud of. I think if we push a little bit more- and continue doing the great job we are already doing, we can make it! Our company has 3,487 Walmart locations throughout the United States- so being in 7th place out of 3,487 stores is a great accomplishment! Let’s go for #1!!!

David began his career with Walmart working on the 3rd Shift Instock crew at the Palmetto store. In just a few short months he was promoted to a 3rd Shift Support Manager, and then went into the Assistant Manager Training Program. After his training- he came to our store as an Assistant Manager. David has a Bachelors Degree in Architecture from Tuskegee University. Before Walmart, David worked for ten years as a Project Manager for Manatee County, and eight years as a Residential Construction Manager. He’s been married for 26 years, and has four daughters. In his spare time David loves the game of billiards and he played competitively in years past. He also does computer aided design.

David’s future goals with Walmart are to progress to the next level of management and then take it from there. He would like to add that in his time here at our store- he has gotten to know many of our associates on a much deeper level and that we have a diverse group with many talents. Continue to reach for excellence.

To help prevent food borne illness, hands must be washed frequently for at least 20 seconds with warm water and soap. Any associate entering the Deli, Seafood, Bakery, Meat, or Produce areas needs to follow the 5 Step Hand Washing Process. � Wet hands with warm water. � Apply soap to hands. � Work the soap into a lather, working

front and back of hands, in between fingers, under nails, and forearms.

� Rinse hands and forearms � Thoroughly dry hands and forearms

with a single-use paper towel. After completing this process- place gloves over your hands. An apron and bouffant hair restraints must be worn at all times. You cannot wear watches, bracelets, pins, or tags. You can wear a wedding band, but any band with jewels must be covered with tape or a Band-Aid.
