How You Benefit The MXL2 upgrade allows operators to switch between two modes of operation: M-mode and XL-mode. Online switching between the M and XL mode is achieved at the touch of a button. • In the M mode, power output can be increased up to 25 MW in combined cycle, and the combined cycle efficiency by 0.8%. • Turbinehousing2:Theturbinehousing2hastobe adjustedtomatchwiththerequirementsofthenew TVC.

• Exhaustgashousing:Exchangeorre-workofthe exhaustgashousingisneededtoaccommodatethe geometryoftheupgradedLPT.

• Rotor:Reworkofblade3coolingairfeeding.These modifications can be done on site.

• Anewoperatingdatacounter(ODC)allowsonline switchingbetweenthetwomodesatanytimewith different lifetime and performance characteristics

TheMXL2UpgradepackagewastestedandvalidatedintheAnsaldotestpowerplantinBirr,Switzerland.ThisistheonlyfullscaletestingfacilityavailableworldwidefortheGT26fleetandisnowwithAnsaldoEnergia.ThiswasfollowedbyasuccessfulinstallationandvalidationonacommercialGT26enginein2009Since2009,theMXL2upgradehasbeenimplementedinseveralotherplantsduringscheduledC-Inspectionsandhelpedcustomerstoremaincompetitiveunderdifferentmarketconditions..TheMXL2 isnowanestablishedandprovenupgrade.Customersarereapingtheeconomicrewardsoftheincreasedperformance,theimprovedoperationalflexibilityandthereducedmaintenancecoststhroughtheextendedinspectioninterval.
