Page 1: Music Magazine Research: Double Page Spread Analysis

What I look for in a music magazine is

preferably more focus on bold artistic

imagery and less on text, this image

conveys the raw, intensity and power of

music, especially playing it live, that a

simple studio shot can not convey

This double page spread of

Disorder is taken up entirely of

amateur gig photos, the slight

blur and lighting, for me, only

contributes to the edgy look of

this shot.

Before this research I had never

heard of Lodown magazine, it is

not well publicized on the

internet aside from its official

website, like Disorder magazine,

it too is a horizontally shaped

publication, and also features

strong, abstract photography as

opposed to cluttered design

layout and emphasis on text.

The strange, artistic and slick

black and white photography

doesn’t really convey the artic

le,

aside from it b

eing titled Black is

Beautiful, b

ut its still i

nspiring.

I thought I would try looking for

inspiration in both

underground/less well known

and mass-publicized more

commercial magazines such as

NME and Q, I also looked in

Borders and found a magazine

called Clash. In my previous

research I have focused more on

double page spreads occupied

by single shots, but I think in this

double page spread of Clash,

which is describing a touring

band, the informal, comedic

pictures would be suited better to

be presented in this cluttered

pin-board style layout and that it

represents the band as having a

fun, laid back attitude.
