Meet and Greet – Director
Mr Sean Andrews, Director-Educational Leadership,
Upper Hunter visited our school on Monday 4 June for a
“Meet and Greet” with parents and community
members.
Mr Andrews along with Mrs Leanne Avard (P&C
President) and myself proposed a School Community
Consultation Process in order to determine the future
directions for the school. Each family and staff member
has been issued with a survey that focuses on positive
aspects of Murrurundi Public School and what would
make it an even better school. The survey is strictly
confidential and the key themes will be taken from the
findings in order to address and remedy any needs/
issues. These themes will be presented to parents and
community at the next P&C meeting, 9.30am Monday
25th of June.
All families are strongly, but politely asked to complete
the survey in the best interests of the school and its staff
and students. Surveys are due on Friday 8 June and
families who do not return one will be phoned for their
input. Thank you for your support with this.
Attendance – give your child every chance to succeed.

Week 6 in K/1
Over the past week K/1 have enjoyed listening to some very entertaining stories! We read a story by Mo Willems called, ‘Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!’ which we all thought was very funny. This led to some creative writing, guided drawing and looking at the three types of sentences: statement, question and exclamation. The students loved it so much that we went onto read another Mo Willems story: ‘The Pigeon Needs a Bath!’
In Maths, the Kinders have continued working to be
able to say and order the days of the week and the Year
1s are consolidating their knowledge of the order of the
months of the year.
We also started looking at money as a whole class,
identifying our coins and notes and the idea of
bartering. The students have participated in a number
of activities and games to assist in their understanding
of using a currency and its value.

2/3/4
This week in 2/3/4, we began adjusting to our room. It’s a tight fit, but I think we’re settling in quite nicely! In English, we learned the difference between Infor-mation (factual) texts and Narrative (stories) texts. As informative texts are the next text type we will be focussing on, we began to read some bibliographies from Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls by Elena Favilli and Francesca Cavallo. We even started writing our own autobiographies! To support this, next week, we will read The Little Refugee by Ahn Do.
In Mathematics, we focussed on our 5 times tables and 3 times tables. We played lots of games, learned some helpful strategies, and worked with hands-on activities in an effort to remember them! We also discovered the difference between volume and capacity by making our own origami paper cups, filling them, then measuring the cup’s capacity to hold water. It was good fun, and we got to develop our maths and fine motor skills. Next week, we will begin our 10 times tables, 6 times tables, and learn about mass.
Year 5/6
This week has seen 5/6 very busy completing their posters for the CWA International day poster competition. We are looking forward to going to the CWA morning tea next Tuesday 12th June to see our posters displayed and receive our results.
This Friday 8th June will see Year 6 enjoy their second orientation day at Scone High School. I know the students are excited to participate in this day.
This week we have also had the opportunity to view two interesting and educational presentations. One from Abbey from 'Enviornmentors' where we discussed cutting down our lunchbox rubbish which can help the environment in a myriad of ways. The second presentation was via Adobe Connect Classroom about keeping ourselves and our tech secure. We were able to discuss e-safety with Greg and other schools around the country lots of ways we can keep ourselves safe.
5/6 are also thoroughly enjoying the directed drawing and choir lessons on Wednesday afternoons.

Year 5/6 have been spending time each morning doing
mindfulness activities. Our goal is to learn to understand
and manage our powerful emotions. We have also
commenced a new math based STEM challenge. The
students have been tasked with designing a new toy
robot using 3D objects. It must be less than 30cm and
use both pyramids and prisms. They have been hard
at work on these designs and we are very excited to see
what they come up with .

The adventures of a tiny unicorn
Micro is the tiniest unicorn in the world. He is bigger
than a match stick and lives in a magical place called
uniworld. He has everything a unicorn could need
except for a friend.
One night when Micro was asleep a magical portal
opened in his bedroom. I was so tiny that only Micro
saw it. He was terrified but strangely curious to see
what was on the other side. So Micro leapt into the
portal hoping for adventure on the other side. He
quickly found himself in a strange world where
everything towered over him. It was a scary place full of
giants.
He was terrified to be is such a strange place. “What is
this strange land, “he thought” Why is that grass so
long?” he mused as he munched on a blade of grass
twice his size. Then he saw it. It was magnificent and he
knew it was a message. A message telling him to go
home. It was a unicorn so beautiful that it belonged in
uniworld but it was strangely rubbery and smelled of
strawberries. What Micro didn’t know was that a little
girl from the nearby primary school was franticly looking
for her new unicorn rubber.
Micro remembered the magic of the wise old unicorns
from home. He tried to recreate their spells but nothing
worked. He looked up when he heard the sound of
laughter. He saw these weird creatures that he had
never seen before. Fear filled his tiny body, coursing
through his veins. Slowly his confidence grew and he
squeaked out some tiny words.
“Help!”
But nothing happened. He tried again a little louder.
“Help!”
But nobody paid attention to the tiny unicorn. Suddenly
a hand picked him up and lifted him into the sky.
“Found it!” yelled the creature. “Here’s my new rubber”
Micro stayed still. Trying not to tremble. Using all of the
bravery he possessed he said in his loudest voice.
“Where am I?”
The girl froze and looked at Micro. She almost dropped
the tiny unicorn but then she realised what she was
holding. A real talking unicorn and not the strawberry
scented rubber she was looking for. She quickly put him
in her pencil case. Knowing that if she didn’t keep him
secret somebody would take him away. This she knew
was her new best friend. Micro the unicorn lived
happily in his new world with his new friend. But
sometimes a magical portal would open up and he
would visit his old home.
