When we ordered our heights, Bhavna, Avi and Henry were the tallest. From this investigation we discovered that the tallest people really do have the longest feet.

In writing, we have been working on writing an information report with a partner about the platypus. We finished writing each section this week, so we began editing. We had to go to three different factories to edit our work; the sentence factory, punctuation factory and the spelling factory. Now we are ready to publish our work.

Congratulations to all students who have presented a speech throughout the term. We have all learnt so much about each others families and names.

This week we conducted a maths investigation about whether or not the tallest person has the longest foot in the class. Some of us thought that the tallest person would have the longest foot, others disa-greed. First we had to trace around our foot and measure it using a centimeter ruler. When we or-dered our feet from smallest to largest, Henry and Bhavna had the longest feet. Next we measured our height using a metre ruler.

Harmony Day – Everyone Belongs

For Harmony Day, the Kinder students listened to and

discussed the story “The Red Bridge” by Kylie Dunstan.

Claire's family has moved from Australia to Vietnam

and the little girl finds herself lost in the busy, bustling

streets of Hanoi, until she finds the red bridge and a

new friend to show her the way.

The Kinders discussed the differences that Claire

would have experienced in her new country such as

the food, the housing, clothing and the language. They

made fish to be displayed under the red bridge for

Harmony Day and talked about what the line from the

book “Finding a new friend is a very lucky thing…”

Year 3/4/5/6

3456 are enjoying studying the classic text “Storm Boy.” They have written descriptions of the Coorong where they have attempted to emulate Colin Thiele’s skill of using rich vocabulary to paint pictures in the minds of his readers. Like Colin Thiele, they have practised the use of simile to enrich their descrip-tions. Some passages from the children’s work are below:

Rachel

The waves crashed on the sand like a thump of thun-der. They splashed up and hit my face like a slap. The wind was pushing the sand to make ripples.

Zoe W.

The Coorong has crashing waves that fly up and glide down the icy water. The Coorong has freezing wind that blows the water across the ocean.

Salwa

The waves are crashing onto the beach. The wind is freezing and loud. It is blowing everything. I can feel goose-bumps on my skin.

Jaylen

At the Coorong you can hear the huge waves crash-ing down on the shore. You can see the driftwood on the surface of the water. You can feel the cold water on your feet. The wind is howling like a wolf.

Jessica

The chilly, salty water came up to me on the sand banks. It tickled my toes. I giggled as I walked up the beach with the water coming up and down.

Braiden

At the Coorong you could hear the waves crashing on the golden shore. You could see the seaweed floating on top of the water.

Maddie

The sand goes up into the air, then comes down and whips people on the legs. The water was so clear like a piece of glass.

Blake

At the Coorong there are lots of crashing waves. The waves thunder against the sand and drift wood rolls up the beach with the ocean.
