1 Warm Greetings and Good Wishes of Peace and Joy! I am aware that you have already begun the new academic year with renewed vigour, enthusiasm and optimism. Be assured of my prayers, encouragement, support and accompaniment in your ministry and the new ventures that you plan to undertake in the coming days. The world around us is changing very rapidly. The knowledge and the skills that we acquired during our formation is often found to be inadequate to handle the demands of our ministry. On-going formation and updating ourselves is very essential to be effective in our ministry. We must constantly look for opportunities to learn something new and all of us must understand the necessity of on-going formation. On-going formation and updating ourselves is very essential lest we become stagnant and get struck in the past. Today, there is a growing urgency and greater awareness among us for the need of Empowerment Programmes. They are certainly the easiest and most relaxed way to learn something new under the able guidance of experts, as they help us to become familiar with latest trends and ideas that dominate the world. They challenge us to come out of our comfort zones and provide us with new ideas and methods to carry out our ministry in a more creative and meaningful manner. They inspire us with new ideas, motivate us to become effective ministers and thus take us to higher level of being and doing. Ongoing formation should be our priority and should be considered as vital, as it helps us to grow at the personal level to fulfil the mission entrusted to us. In order to be more effective in our ministry it is very important that we deepen our awareness of the complex realities that we encounter every day; build our capacity and equip ourselves with needed skills to deal with them. We should constantly be aware of the challenges of today and tackle those we come across in our ministry. They also provide us with renewed motivation and keen interest to be effective, and thus make us very purpose driven to accomplish our mission with alertness and commitment. The Provincial Administration has planned a number of empowerment programs this year. I strongly advise all of you to avail these God sent opportunities and benefit the maximum from them. Warm Greetings and Good Wishes of Peace and Joy!

I am aware that you have already begun

the new academic year with renewed

vigour, enthusiasm and optimism. Be

assured of my prayers, encouragement,

support and accompaniment in your

ministry and the new ventures that you

plan to undertake in the coming days.

The world around us is changing very

rapidly. The knowledge and the skills

that we acquired during our formation is

often found to be inadequate to handle

the demands of our ministry. On-going

formation and updating ourselves is very essential to be effective in our ministry. We must

constantly look for opportunities to learn something new and all of us must understand the necessity

of on-going formation.

On-going formation and updating ourselves is very essential lest we become stagnant and get struck

in the past. Today, there is a growing urgency and greater awareness among us for the need of

Empowerment Programmes. They are certainly the easiest and most relaxed way to learn

something new under the able guidance of experts, as they help us to become familiar with latest

trends and ideas that dominate the world. They challenge us to come out of our comfort zones and

provide us with new ideas and methods to carry out our ministry in a more creative and meaningful

manner. They inspire us with new ideas, motivate us to become effective ministers and thus take us

to higher level of being and doing. Ongoing formation should be our priority and should be

considered as vital, as it helps us to grow at the personal level to fulfil the mission entrusted to us. In

order to be more effective in our ministry it is very important that we deepen our awareness of the

complex realities that we encounter every day; build our capacity and equip ourselves with needed

skills to deal with them. We should constantly be aware of the challenges of today and tackle those

we come across in our ministry. They also provide us with renewed motivation and keen interest to

be effective, and thus make us very purpose driven to accomplish our mission with alertness and

commitment.

The Provincial Administration has planned a number of empowerment programs this year. I

strongly advise all of you to avail these God sent opportunities and benefit the maximum from them.

Thus we will become more effective Fransalians as we will be imbued with the spirit and the

spirituality of our patron St. Francis de Sales and the zeal and methods of our founder Fr. Peter

Mermier.

Live Jesus!

First Death Anniversary of Bro. Anthony Chalackkal

The First Death Anniversary of Bro.

Anthony Chalackal, fondly called

‘Bidkin Baba’, was commemorated on

3rd June 2018, at St. Mary’s Church,

Jalna. Bro. Anthony spent the last eleven

years of his life in Jalna, looking after the

garden, the kitchen, praying for those

who visit the Grotto of Mother Mary and

spending a lot of his time in the chapel

praying the Rosary. He lived a

disciplined and holy life. He is known for his punctuality, care for others and obedience to his

superiors. He would never compromise on daily prayers, participation in the Eucharist, reading of

the Constitutions and recitation of any special prayers sent by the Bishop/Provincial. An hour

before his death he performed all his regular duties like closing the main gate and the gate of the

Grotto, making sure the milk is kept in the fridge and the dining table is set for next day’s breakfast.

Jalna community cherishes the golden memories of his active and joy-filled life in the community.

In remembrance of Bro. Anthony, the community organized a prayer service at his tomb, Holy

Eucharist in the Church and a fellowship meal for all. Fr. Muthuswamy, the Provincial was the main

celebrant at the prayer service and the Eucharist. Fransalians from Aurangabad and Nanded,

Parishioners, Sisters of St. Joseph of St. Mac along with other guests joined for the celebration. The

Provincial in his introduction and Fr. Shijumon in his homily, highlighted the outstanding virtues of

Bro. Anthony. May Bro. Anthony who was a true Fransalian continue to inspire all of us. May his

soul rest in peace. Fr. Shijumon MSFS

P V Baba Fondly Remembered on His 10th Death Anniversary:

On the 6th of June the Fransalian Vidya Niketan

Community of Khamgaom, together with many

people of other faiths, who are ardent followers

of the inter-faith dialogue and inter-religious

sessions of the mission, joined together to

celebrate the 10th death anniversary of Rev. Fr. P.

V. Joseph.

On 5th June at 7 pm, Mr. Gadekar Maharaj, a

friend and admirer of P V Baba organized a

kirtan session. Quite a few of the neighbouring

people joined for the kirtans. On 6th June the death anniversary mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. J B

Muthuswamy our Provincial. Fr. Shantwan in his homily highlighted the qualities of P V Baba and

urged the people to continue this great movement that he had started of bringing people of different

faiths together for prayer and dialogue. After the mass a prayer service was held at the tomb of Fr.

P.V. Joseph. The presence of two of his nieces from Mumbai and the priests and religious of the

neighbouring parishes added solemnity to the celebration. In a spirit of joy and fellowship all joined

for the agape. Long live the spirit and the spiritual tradition of P V Baba. Fr. Shantwan K MSFS

Renovation of the Church and Renewal of the Parishioners:

Joy was in my heart alleluia, when I heard

them say; “Let us go to God’s house.” On

the parishioners of St. James Church,

Kullarayanpalayam, assembled in the house

of God, which was recently renovated and

extended. It was also the Silver Jubilee of the

Church which added more joy to the

celebration. The people of God joyfully

welcomed their shepherd Rt. Rev. Dr.

Antonyswamy Peter Abir, the Bishop of

Sultanpet, who blessed the newly renovated Church. Rev. Fr. John Britto Muthuswamy, the

Provincial of Nagpur Province, was given the honour of inaugurating the Church. The presence of

many priests and religious from the neighboring parishes added more joy to the celebrations. Within

a short period of time the Church had an entirely new look. This was well appreciated by the

Bishop, the Provincial, all the priests and religious and the faithful who joined for the celebrations.

It was the result of the painstaking hard work and sincere efforts of the Parish Priest Fr. Christuraj,

his assistant Fr. Joseph Arulraj and all the Parishioners. The guests and all the parishioners

celebrated the event with a fellowship meal. We heartily congratulate and appreciate the good job

done by Fr. Christuraj and Fr. Joseph. Their presence in the parish and their continued service will

certainly keep the flock together and strengthen them in the faith. May God’s blessings be upon all

of us. Fr. Jnanamani MSFS

Congregation and the Church. It was the hard work of the entire community that made the program

a grand success. After the Eucharistic celebration all the perpetually professed brothers were

felicitated. This was followed by a fellowship meal which all enjoyed in each other’s company.

my Perpetual Profession of the three vows. I am really happy to be a permanent member in the

Nagpur Province of the Congregation of Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales. I express a special

Kudos to St. Mary’s High School:

city’s horizon. It was the day

when the Maharashtra State

Divya Jyoti Minor Seminary, Latapara- 2018-19:

The starting of every new academic year is an

exciting time because it is a new beginning. It

is the arrival of fresh and new talents, with lots

of possibilities and potentials. This year too we

are blessed to welcome 25 new

young boys who have joined Divya Jyoti Minor

Seminary, to give themselves to the Lord as

Fransalians and to offer their services to the

Universal Church. Thus the total strength with

old timers is 30.The candidates were welcomed and introduced into the minor seminary community

life. The formators at Divya Jyoti have committed themselves to be always available and ever ready

to personally accompany the seminarians. The new academic year began with a one day orientation

program preached by Fr. Vinsent Minj MSFS. Thus we hope that the students will be open and have

a new and positive mindset to fulfill the vision and mission of our new Graded Formation, which

specially focuses on the Human, Spiritual, Intellectual, Social and Missionary Dimension in our

Minor Seminary Formation. Fr. Lalit Tigga MSFS

SFS Minor Seminary, Manargat:

The new academic year 2018-19 was

inaugurated on 4th June with the Eucharistic

celebration presided over by the Rector, Fr.

Paul V, and concelebrated by Fr. Jomon and

Fr. P.M. Joseph. One hour of prayer service

was also made a part of the program. The

feeling of great joy and enthusiasm was

experienced by all who were present in the

chapel. Although there were only five new

comers and eight senior boys, we are hoping that a few more will join us at a later date. Classes

have begun from 4th of June onwards. It is going to be a tough task for us to make them develop

good study habits. Although they all have passed the SSLC, many of them lack the basic

requirements. This makes the task of the formators all the more challenging. The three of us who are

on the staff have the energy, knowhow and the eagerness to impart the necessary knowledge to

these youngsters; but they are finding everything here very different from what they had been used

to at their homes. They are trying their best to adjust to the new situation and we are doing our best

Learning A Language, Effecting A Change:

Our Lady of Nativity Church,

Sini, for the first time organized

English Speaking and Hindi

Language Course on its campus.

There were seventeen students

for English and three for Hindi.

The courses were held from 21st

to 31st May 2018. The tutors

and students were engaged in

intensive yet fun learning

activities, thus forming a unique

classroom environment. Along with classes the students got to meet some of the brightest minds of

the parish. These classes also gave them the chance to interact with each other and make new

friends. Expert English and Hindi language teachers created an atmosphere of joyful learning and

made the classes very interactive. Since they received personal attention from the teachers they

benefitted a great deal.

When one looks to pursue a career in freelance writing, business or other fields where English is

widely used, such classes are a great help especially for those who are studying in Hindi medium

schools. Topics included were proper use of grammar, literature and creative writing. During such

summer courses the students are able to pick up the language quickly and in a short time period as

the classes are more intensive and of a longer duration. It allows the student to invest their time in a

more intense manner. This occasion was also used to strengthen the faith of the students as

catechism classes were also held. I express my gratitude to all who gave their time and talents for

the good of our young ones. I am sure all of them benefited a great deal. This will certainly help

them do well in their further studies and make a good career in life. Fr. Emile Tirkey MSFS

Salesian Thought:

“We do not very often come across opportunities for exercising strength, magnanimity or magnificence; but

gentleness, temperance, modesty and humility are graces which ought to colour everything we do. There may

be virtues of a more exalted mould, but these are the most continually called for in daily life.”

Fraternally yours in Christ,

Fr. J. B. Muthuswamy MSFS

Provincial Superior
