13 MPOB News Hello Komoditi Sungai Besar Kuala Selangor MPOB participated in the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities (MPIC) Hello Komoditi programme in Sungai Besar, Kuala Selangor on 7 June 2016. The event was officiated by Nancy Shukri Acting Minister at Ministry of Plantation Industry and Commodities. More than 1500 people visited the event where exhibitions, demonstration, and sale of commodity products were being held. Other agencies under MPIC which participated include the Malaysian Rubber Board, Malaysia Cocoa Board, Malaysian Timber Industry Board, and Institute of Malaysian Plantations and Commodities (IMPAC). Also present at the event were Budiman Mohd Zohdi, Parliament Member of Sungai Besar and Zurinah Pawanteh, Deputy Secretary-General (Plantation and Commodities) MPIC. Minister Visit to MPOB Headquarter Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong, Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodites visited MPOB Headquarters and was received by Dr Ahmad Kushairi Din, Director-General of MPOB. The visit is the first official visit to MPOB after his appointment as Minister of MPIC. The Minister was briefed by Dr Ahmad Kushairi Din, Director-General of MPOB on the introduction to MPOB and Oil Palm Industry in Malaysia as well as the activities of MPOB. DG also led the delegation in the tour to MPOB facilities (Labs, Oil Palm Galler, and Pilot Plant). Also present were Datuk M. Nagarajan, Secretary- General of MPIC and Toisin Gantor, Deputy Secretary- General MPIC. (Strategic Planning and Management). Visit by Delegation from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) MPOB received a visit from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) delegation led by J C Masangu at MPOB Headquarters, Bandar Baru Bangi on 8 August 2016. The delegates were received by Zurinah Pawanteh, Deputy Secretary–General of MPIC (Plantation and Commodities) and Dr Lim Weng Soon, Deputy Director-General of MPOB (R&D), who also briefed them on the development in the oil palm industry as well as the activities of MPOB. Palm Oil Familiarisation Programme The Palm Oil Familiarisation Programme (POFP) 2016 was held at the Le Meridian Hotel from 22-26 August 2016 for selected groups of 30 participants from 20 countries. This annual programme was officiated by Datuk Datu Nasrun Datu Mansur, Deputy Minister of MPIC on 22 August represented Minister of MPIC. POFP was designed by MPOB’s Technical Advisory Services Unit to familiarise the participants with the whole spectrum of the palm oil industry in Malaysia which covers development and progress in all major sectors of the industry. Through the programme, the experts from various sectors of the industry are able to share knowledge and expertise on specific subjects about palm oil. To date, POFP has so far attracted above 1000 participants from 100 countries since its debut in 1982. Certificates Presentation on the Farm Mechanisation Operator’s Course (KOML) MPOB organised a certificate presentation and closing ceremony of the Farm Mechanisation Operators’s Course (KOML) which was held on 5 November 2016 at Pusat Latihan Sawit Malaysia (PLASMA), Keratong, Pahang. Minister Visit to MPOB Headquarter

MPOB participated in the Hello Komoditi organised by MPIC which was held at Lahad Datu Sabah on 19 November 2016.

The event has launched by Datuk Datu Nasrun Datu Mansur, Deputy Minister of MPIC.

More than 1000 people representing smallholders and local people visited the booth and took part in the programmes arranged by MPOB (Talks, Exhibition, Cooking Competition and Colouring Competition).

MPOB organised the Transfer of Technology Seminar and Exhibition (TOT) annually and this year it was held at Advanced Oleochemical Technology Centre, MPOB Headquarters, Bandar Baru Bangi.

in all aspects of oil palm industry - for adoption and commercialisation besides enables potential interested parties (industry players, entrepreneurs and plantation owners) to interact and communicate ideas on the technologies with MPOB inventors and researchers.

MPOB has introduced a total of 22 new technologies and 10 services during TOT 2016. To date, MPOB has accumulate a large knowledge base and disclosed 608 technologies ranging from plantation, methods and systems, farm mechanisation, crop protection, plant biotechnology, wood-based products, milling, and processing, livestock feed, food products, phytonutrients, nutraceuticals and oleochemicals to green energy. MPOB currently boasts a commercialisation rate of 30%.

Monochloropropane-1, 2-Diol Forum

MPOB organised Forum on monochloropropane-1, 2-Diol (3-MCPD) and Glycidyl Ester at MPOB Headquarters, Bandar Baru Bangi on 1 July 2016.

The forum has launched by Datuk Dr Choo Yuen May and there were 2 papers has been presented by the two speakers- Updates on 3-MCPD and Glycidyl Ester and Industry Experience on 3-MCPD EFSA report.

The forum is organised by MPOB to encourage interaction between MPOB and the industry players to disseminate the latest information on 3MCPD and discussing strategies to tackle the issues.

PILIPS & PALMECH Seminar 2016.

Datuk Seri Ahmad Hamzah, the Chairman of MPOB, officiated the opening of the Palm Industry Labour: Issues, Performance & Sustainability (PILIPS) and Oil Palm Mechanisation (PalmMech) 2016 on 20 September 2016. Among those who graced the occasion included Hj Mohamad Noor Abdul Rahman, Deputy Director- General of MPOB and Balu Nambiappan, Director of Economics and Industry Development.

The PILIPS & PalmMech Seminar, held annually was attended by 250 participants, representing the various segments of the palm oil as well as the medium to disseminate the latest information on the latest update of the industry, especially in plantation sector.

IDOPMT 2016

MPOB has launched the 20th Intensive Diploma in Oil Palm Management & Technology 2016 at MPOB Headquarters, Bandar Baru Bangi on 22 September 2016.

The programme has officiated by Dr Norman Kamarudin, Director of Biology Research Division. The Intensive Diploma in Oil Palm Management and Technology (IDOPMT) is annually offered by MPOB, and twenty sessions had been conducted since 1999,

with training in management of oil palm plantations and palm oil production. IDOPMT is a qualification which will pave the way for career advancement in the oil palm industry.

2016 Oil Palm Smallholders National Conference

More than 500 participants took part in the 2016 Oil Palm Smallholders National Conference from 11 to 12 October 2016. Datuk Seri Ahmad Hamzah, Chairman of MPOB, launched the conference at Kinta Riverfront Hotel, Ipoh, Perak.

With the theme ‘Empowering Role, Championing Hope’, the biennial conference would provide a platform for oil palm cultivators and smallholders to get the latest information and technologies from the conference. The participants also had chance in knowing the new technologies related to good agricultural practices, plantation, livestock integration, besides exchanging the ideas and experiences.

Also attending the event were Dr Ahmad Kushairi Din, Director-General of MPOB and Dato’ Mohd Azhar Jamaluddin, Parliament Member of Changkat Jong, Perak.

OER Seminar 2016

Oil Extraction Rate Seminar was held on 22 November 2016 at Dewan Sawit, MPOB Headquarter Bandar Baru Bangi.

The Seminar was officiated by Dr Ahmad Kushairi Din, Director-General of MPOB. It was attended by more than 100 participants representing the various segments of Malaysia’s oil palm industry especially in plantation and mill sectors.

POMREQ

MPOB organised the National Seminar on Palm Oil Milling, Refining, Environment and Quality (POMREQ) in Royale Chulan Hotel, Kuala Lumur on 29-30 November 2016.

The seminar was officiated by Datuk Datu Nasrun Datu Mansur, Deputy Minister of MPIC.

It was attended by more 350 participants and a total of 22 papers were presented during the two-day seminar.

The last seminar was held in 2014 and since then many innovation and technologies have been developed.

The seminar has provided the right forum for the palm oil industry and R&D organisations to exchange ideas, and to chart strategies for sustainable competitiveness and development of the palm oil industry in the global oils and fats market.

Also present were Datuk Seri Ahmad Hamzah, Chairman of MPOB, Toisin Gantor, Deputy Secretary-General MPIC (Strategic Planning and Management) and Dr Ahmad Kushairi Din, Director-General of MPOB.
