Message from the
MINISTER OF PLANTATION INDUSTRIES
AND COMMODITIES
I would like to congratulate the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) for organising the 19th Transfer of Technology Seminar 2013. The annual Transfer of Technology Seminar is an important forum to unveil new technologies, products and other innovations to members of the oil palm industry and local entrepreneurs for adoption and commercialisation.
Malaysia is one of the leading global producers and exporters of palm oil. The country has its competitive advantage in the production and management of palm oil products, backed by numerous research and development (R&D) findings and years of experience in nurturing the industry that has become a mainstay of the our economy.
Technologies and innovations are among the prime movers to enhance performance and value creation. The adoption of new technologies and innovations is therefore necessary to transform the oil palm industry into a highly competitive, diversified and sustainable industry. In this regard, knowledge, innovation and scientific breakthroughs emanating from research undertaken by MPOB has high potential for commercial application. MPOB has developed over 500 technologies with a commercialisation success rate of 30%, and we are indeed proud of this commendable achievement.
I hope the Transfer of Technology Seminar will provide a fruitful forum for interaction between inventors of technologies and participants to promote the adoption and commercialisation of relevant technologies in the oil palm industry. I am also confident this event will offer new business opportunities to the industry and local entrepreneurs including the small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Dato Sri Douglas Uggah Embas

Message from
DIRECTOR-GENERAL,
MALAYSIAN PALM OIL BOARD
On behalf of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board, I would like to thank the Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, YB Dato Sri Douglas Uggah Embas for consenting to officiate the MPOB Transfer of Technology Seminar 2013.
The Transfer of Technology Seminar organised annually by MPOB unveils new research findings, technologies, formulations and services related to the palm oil industry for adoption and commercialisation. It serves as a platform to promote networking and collaboration for commercialisation and meaningful interaction with the inventors of technologies. The event showcases the inventions and innovations and provides an opportunity for local entrepreneurs to explore business opportunities in new technologies and services for the oil palm industry. These technologies span the whole value chain and across industry sectors from plantation, farm machinery, plant protection to plant biotechnology, wood-based products, milling and processing, livestock integration, food, phytonutrients and nutraceuticals, oleochemicals and green energy.
On this occasion, MPOB is launching the 5 Stage Winnowing Column – Dry Separation of Kernel and Shell, a technology which is developed by MPOB in collaboration with Hur Far Engineering Works Sdn Bhd and FELDA Palm Industries Sdn Bhd. MPOB will ink two memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with Palmmy Industries Sdn Bhd for commercialisation of Palm-based Santan and with Global Green Synergy Sdn Bhd on Development of a Process System and Technology for the Formulation and Production of Palm-based Biomass Pellets.
I would like to thank MPOB staff, collaborators and those involved in making the MPOB Transfer of Technology Seminar 2013 a success. I wish all participants a fruitful engagement.
Thank you.
Datuk Dr Choo Yuen May
