Objectives
The syllabus for M.Phil. (Commerce) has been designed in such a way that the
students, when they go out, will be employable in reputed colleges. The focus is also
on making them experts/specialized in research techniques/statistical tools.
Eligibility
A pass in M.Com/ M.B.A or any other equivalent Master degree from any
recognized university.

Research – Definition, characteristics, nature and scope. Types of research – Selection and
Formulation of research problem – Research Design – Major steps in research – Uses of social science
research.

Sampling: Meaning, definition, need and types – merits and demerits of sampling – sampling
errors. Data collection: Sources of data – Primary and Secondary data – procedure for data collection
– Tools of data collection – Questionnaire – Interview schedule. Scaling Techniques: Introduction –
Measurement of scales - Reliability and validity.
