PART 1. BREAKING DOWN THE SCRIPT 1. Getting Started

Launch Movie Magic Scheduling File ® New Schedule From Template ® Default Template ® Open

(Note: To access the templates folder, navigate to Home)

Add basic information about your project. Go to Design ® Production Info

2. Breakdown Sheet

Fill out details per scene, according to breakdown of the script

(Note: Not all fields are required to be filled out)

a. Scene (s) – Fill out per scene in your script b. Int/Ext – location as per the script c. Set – Set Name as per script d. Day/Night e. Pages – Measure in a whole page and 1/8th of a page.

Ex. A page and a half would be 1 and 4/8th of a page. f. Synopsis – Keep it to six words or less g. Script Page - physical page of the script h. Script Day – Ex. D1 means Day 1 i. Sequence – To maintain continuity

Other options for INT/EXT and DAY/NIGHT. To Customize and add Go to - Design ® Strip Colors

3. Elements

Click on an Element to edit content, this is all based on your script Editing Categories in Elements Go to Design ® Category Manager In here you can add, delete, move a category depending on the need of your script

Note: You can now save this template as your own based on your project.

Once you are done with your first breakdown sheet, you can move forward and create another sheet.

PART 2. SCHEDULING

1. Element Manager Go to Breakdown ® Element Manager (manages all the elements you created) E.g. Board Ids, Merging of elements, correct a spelling

2. Stripboard Manager To open your Stripboard: Click the colored bar at the top of Breakdown sheet

Note: Stripboards are by default in scene order. It is important to preserve a copy in scene order in cases that you want to go back in that specific order. Go to Schedule ® Stripboard Manager ® Double click Default Stripboard and rename it to Scene order (this helps you to remember that this is the scene order) Click Duplicate Stripboard, Rename the Duplicate to First Draft and you can put it to Active

3. Sorting Click on the Sorting Button

• Add categories (highly recommended are Set, DN, IE) • Click OK • This will sort your stripboard by Set, DN and IE

4. Daybreaks

To indicate Daybreaks or end of a day: Select the last scene for the day and click Insert DayBreak

Alternatively, you can click Auto schedule to set a maximum time per day or pages per day.

5. Banners Banners are used to indicate a note or tag between shoot (E.g. Company Move, Lunches, Rehearsal)

6. Calendar Manager Go to Schedule ® Calendar Manager ® Select Default Calendar

• Rename Calender • Indicate “Days Off” • Mark “Holidays” • “Prod Start” only affects your

schedule • After setting the dates, click

OK To view your schedule in a Calendar View Go to Schedule ® Calendar Notes: You can also move strips around in Calendar View

7. Boneyard

This is use if you have a scene which you are not sure yet and you want to keep it in case, but it will be removed from your stripboard.

Select a scene that you want to remove and Click Boneyard, this will move the scene to Boneyard

To View scenes in the Boneyard, click Show Boneyards

Note: Each Stripboard has its own independent Boneyards

8. Printing Go to File ® Print View To print Stripboard : Select Strips (preferably Horizontal C) To print Reports : Select Reports (preferably Shooting Schedule 3 to show comments)

View and Print!!!
