Peter Ballo Wins Met PGA Championship

2019 Met PGA Professional of the Year, David Young welcomed 132 of the topplayers in the Metropolitan Section to Sleepy Hollow Country Club for theplaying of the 93rd Lincoln Met PGA Championship. Golf CourseSuperintendent Tom Leahy and his team worked tirelessly before and duringthe event to provide an incredible test of championship golf, while GeneralManager Paul Brock and his staff went above and beyond to ensure thateverything ran smoothly for both the championship and the preceding ProAm.

Congratulations to Peter Ballo of Silvermine Golf Club who took home his firstever Met PGA Championship victory! In the first round, Ballo led BrandonHolden of Apawamis by one, and Jason Caron (Mill River), Matt Sita (OldWestbury), and Ryan Kalista (Tamarack) by two. Shooting a second round of70, Ballo found himself atop the leaderboard by four shots heading into thefinal round. After a few early bogeys by Ballo and some birdies by Caron, thelead shrunk to two shots early in the final round. Ballo shortly got back ontrack and cruised to a six-shot victory over Meadow Brook Head Professionaland two-time Met PGA Champion, Matt Dobyns who used a final round 66 topropel himself to a solo second place finish.

Jack Mallon Pro Am Championship | October 7th

Brookville Country Club will host our annual two person "Pro-Scratch" better-ball event named after a former Met PGA President who worked at GardenCity CC, Cold Spring, and Wheatley Hills. Teams must consist of a PGAprofessional from our Long Island jurisdiction, and a member of his/her club.


Whitey Voight Pro Am Championship | October 10th

The Westchester/CT/Upstate version of Long Island's Jack Mallon event, theWhitey Voight was created by Sunningdale CC to remember their belovedhead professional after his tragic death in an auto accident. Two personteams consisting of a PGA professional and a member of his/her facilitycompete in this better-ball of two event.

Leewood Golf Club Presents : The Bambino

Leewood Golf Club is hosting their 11 AnnualBambino Invitational on October 9th. Their mostfamous member was the great Babe Ruth. This eventwill honor the legacy of this great athlete and avidgolfer. The event will be open to all Golf Professionalsand Amateurs from the Tri State area.

This year Leewood is again inviting Amateur players toparticipate. There will be a separate Low AmateurChampion.

Inaugural PGA HOPE National Golf & WellnessWeek

We are happy to announce that Janus Persaud will be representing the MetSection at the Inaugural PGA HOPE National Golf & Wellness Week beingheld this October in Washington, D.C! The 20 Veterans who have beenselected to participate in this year’s event will receive a tool kit of new skillsfocused on advanced golf instruction and impactful wellness training. Thiscurriculum will be an extension to what Veterans have been learningthroughout the year at their home PGA HOPE programs. The final day of theevent will culminate with a golf outing at Congressional Country Club, whereVeterans will have the opportunity to utilize the public speaking andnetworking skills they learned throughout the week as Ambassadors of thePGA HOPE program.
