University of Essex Hardship Fund
• If you find yourself in financial hardship you may be eligible to apply
to the University of Essex hardship fund. This fund uses a
combination of actual income and costs, some of which are capped
amounts and allowances set by Hardship Fund Committee, National
Union of Students (NUS) and National Association of Student
Money Advisors (NASMA)

Financial Support University of Essex Hardship Fund – Eligibility
• In order to apply you should:
• be fully registered at the University of Essex for the current academic year
• be classed as a Home (UK) student
• have taken all support available to you via Student Finance, Postgraduate
Loans from the SLC and/or NHS
• have taken all other funding that you may be entitled to, including welfare
benefits and tax credits
• show that, across the academic year, you have/will have sufficient funds to
cover your full tuition fees, plus at least £5,000 towards living costs
(postgraduate students)

University of Essex Late Funding Loans
• Late Funding Loans are available to undergraduate and
postgraduate students who are eligible and have applied for funding
from Student Finance or the NHS, but have not yet received any
payments.
• We'll help with a loan towards basic living costs. It will not be
sufficient to cover rent or tuition fees. If you have dependent children
you will receive a higher payment.
• These loans are interest-free. Repayment conditions apply and will
be discussed when you apply.
Financial Support University of Essex Late Funding Loan - Eligibility
• In order to apply you should:
• be fully registered at the University of Essex for the current academic
year
• be classed as a Home (UK) student
• be eligible and have applied for maintenance support from Student
Finance or NHS (you will be required to provide evidence that you
have done so)
• not yet have received any payments from your funding provider
• be aware of the reason why your funding has been delayed (if you
are not aware, we will ask you to contact your funding provider
before submitting your application)

University of Essex Bursary
• We offer a generous support package if you're starting your
undergraduate course in 2018. Our bursary is aimed at meeting
financial need. If you're eligible you'll automatically receive £2,500 over
three years:
• Year one: £1,000 – split into two £500 payments in February and
May
• Year two: £1,000 - split into two £500 payments in February and
May
• Year three: £500 – split in two £250 payments in February and May

University of Essex Bursary – Eligibility
• You must meet all of the following conditions:
• be eligible for UK home fees and ordinarily resident in the UK
(international and EU students are not eligible)
• have an annual household income of up to £25,000 as assessed by
Student Finance England or other UK student funding provider
• have registered to study a full-time undergraduate course at Essex,
starting in 2018-19
• have made a means-tested application to Student Finance England
(or other UK student funding provider) with Essex as your chosen
institution, have given your consent to the sharing of financial details
and have been deemed eligible for support

University of Essex Bursary – How to Apply
• You don't need to complete an application form!
• If you meet all the eligibility criteria you will automatically be
awarded the UoE Bursary
• We can only automatically assess your eligibility if you and your
parents (or sponsor) have given Student Finance consent to share
information with us – Please check you have done this!
• You will be notified at the end of November if you have been
awarded the Bursary.

NHS – Help with costs
• HC1 forms to apply for Low Income Support – most
students eligible for help
• NHS Prepayment Certificate options for repeat
prescription needs.
• You can order your prescription to be delivered to
campus at no additional costs – visit SU Reception
