Monday's high school sports roundup: Tommy Schmock's career-high 33 points lead St. Edwardbasketball to win in SC tournament - cleveland.com

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- St. Edward guard Tommy Schmock drained six 3-point field goals andfinished with a career-high 33 points as the Eagles overwhelmed East Jackson (GA) 93-71 onTuesday during the Beach Ball Classic boys basketball tournament.

Schmock was 6-for-11 shooting from 3-point range, and the Eagles shot 19-for-48 from beyond thearc as a team. The 19 made 3-point shots is a Beach Ball Classic record and a school record for St.Edward.

Sean Flannery added 19 points and a team-high seven assists while Jack Sullivan chipped in 12points and Danny Chambers added eight points and 10 rebounds. The Eagles improved their recordto 4-2 on the season and will play Mustang (OK) Wednesday at 5:15 p.m.

Bedford 67, Normandy 56: Bedford's defense held Normandy to 18 points in the second half. CamBrandon led the Bearcats with 21 points while Da'Ron Falkner added 14. Normandy was led by TroyMassa's 19 points.

Collinwood 54, Eastlake North 50: Melvin Hill's 20 points led the Railroaders.

Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy 42, Tuscawaras Valley 32: Nate Peters scored a game-high 13points while Ryan Foguth added 11 for the Royals.

Lorain 78, Elyria 62: Daviere Andrews scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Titans while NazBohannon added 16 and Anfernee Smothers 14. Blake Furcron led the Pioneers with 16.

Maple Heights 76, Mayfield 63: Fonse Hale scored a 29 points while Xavier Foster added 10 for theMustangs. Alex Nahra's 33 points led all scorers for the Wildcats.

Mentor 69, Dobyns-Bennet (TN) 51: Jack Korsok scored 11 points, while Tadas Tatarunas added ninepoints and 13 rebounds for the Cardinals in the consolation bracket of the Arby's Classic in Bristol,Tennessee.

St. Ignatius 75, Warren G. Harding 61: Deven Stover's 21 points led the Wildcats to a win over thepreviously undefeated Raiders. Matthew Davet added 13 points and Austen Yarian 10 for St.Ignatius. Gabe Simpson led Warren Harding with 23.

Trinity 64, Wickliffe 53: Brevin Dye scored a game-high 25 points while Matt Trent added 16 for theTrojans.

Valley Forge 46, Cuyahoga Heights 42: The Patriots picked up their first win of the season behind 15points from Raymone Jackson and nine from Kevin Yurik.

Villa Angela-St. Joseph 88, Jefferson (WV) 43: Sherman Dean scored 21 points and Jacob Staufferadded 14 for the Vikings while Jerry Higgins chipped in 11.

Girls basketball

Detroit Martin Luther King 52, Solon 35: Dee Bekelja scored 18 to lead the Comets.

Hathaway Brown 52, Bishop Hartley 33: Hanna Harlor scored 12 points while DK Lawson and JackieCarman added 11 points each for the Blazers.

Padua 60, North Royalton 53: Elena Rauhe scored 20 points while Alainna Conroy added 12 pointsand Ali Medaglia chipped in 11 for the Bruins. Julianne Lebo led North Royalton with 22 points andGabby White chipped in 19.

Twinsburg 51, Magnificat 46: Jasmine Bishop scored a game-high 17 points for the Tigers while ToriThomas added 15 and Dasja Anderson 12. Elise Keshock led the Blue Streaks with 16 points whileLily Schwind chipped in 15.

Wadsworth 58, GlenOak 33: Jodi Johnson scored 15 points and Peyton Banks added 13 for theGrizzlies.

Nordonia 2,428, Cuyahoga Heights 1,851: Phil Toth rolled a 433 high series for the Knights.Brandon Dikowicz led the Redskins with a 353 series.

Avon Lake 2, Brooklyn 1: Jared Aslasken scored the game-winning goal with 11:37 left in the thirdgreen superfoods and weight loss period as the Shoremen claimed the Avon Lake InvitationalHoliday Tournament title. Avon Lake is riding a six-game winning streak.

Lake Catholic 5, Rocky River 4: Freshman C.J. Will scored the game-winning goal in overtime as theCougars won a game played at Quicken Loans Arena. Ian Hermann scored two goals for the Pirates.Ryan Bruss and Kyle Horvath scored two goals each for Lake Catholic.

St. Edward 2, University School 2: Ben Heller assisted on two Ryan Gorbett goals in the first periodfor the Preppers, but the Eagles rallied for a pair of goals to earn a draw.

Boys swimming

Avon 113, Normandy 63: Ben Brooks won the 100 freestyle and the 200 freestyle for the Eagles.

Girls swimming

Laurel 99, West Geauga 70: Laurel won 11 events as Morgan Miklus and Rose Pophal were bothdouble individual event winners. West Geauga's Grace Platek won the 100 free. Laurel diver TriciaRoscoe led off the winning 200 freestyle relay.
