Cycle Wheel Weeder demonstrating through womanShri P.P.Shelke, Subject Matter specialists (Agrill.

Engg.) Demonstrated cycle wheel weeder in soybean crop. This was the programme of front line demonstration ofimproved agriculture implements. Initially the implementwas demonstrated through men workers. It was observed thaton an average 180.5 sq.m area can be weeded in a period of30minutes. This comes to be 0.28ha per day. Present cost ofweeding by women worker is about 1250 Rs. Per hectare. Therefore it is seen that the cost can be reduced to about Rs.100 per ha. However final touch up operation is needed forrefining the work. Therefore, in general the cost of weedingcompletely by use of weeder and refining the further weedsmanually may come to Rs. 250 per acre i.e. Rs. 625 per ha.Simultaneously the implement was demonstrated for womenworkers also. Six women workers participated in thedemonstration programme. The average rate of weeding bywomen workers was found to be 164.6 sq. m per 30 minutes. This comes to be 0.26 ha per day of 8 hours. In this case alsothe cost effectiveness was observed. As compared to maleworkers the female workers speed was slightly less.Feedback from farmers was recorded and it was noted thattheir needs to be good soil condition to operate the implementeffectively. It cannot be operated where small stones arepresent in the soil. Still there is scope for higher adoption ofthis implement in coming years as it saves lot of cost andsaves labour.
