    Introduction

    Bangladesh has entered the international mobile remittancemarket based on the previous success of the Philippines model.Bangladeshs migrant workforce has been encountering thetypical remittance issues: inability to send money frequently,delays while sending, unsecured distribution, inconsistentdelivery methods, etc. To combat these issues Bangladesh hasestablished a mobile Remittance service supported by two localbanks Dhaka Bank Ltd and Eastern Bank Ltd and the country'ssecond largest mobile operator Banglalink.

    Mobile Remittance in Bangladesh

    Banglalink in collaboration with Dhaka Bank ltd (dbl) and

    Eastern Bank ltd (ebl) jointly launched mobile remittance, the

    first ever for Bangladesh as well as for South Asia. This service is

    a highly secured, convenient, reliable, fast and cost-effective

    remittance system.

    Product details of Banglalink

    Beneficiaries with Banglalink mobile connections will be able to open mobilewallet accounts either at Dhaka bank or Eastern bank from selectedBanglalink mobile cash points by submitting necessary identity documentsand account opening forms. Mobile wallet account holders can receive theremittance directly in their mobile wallet account. If the beneficiaries do nothave Banglalink mobile connections, they can still receive the remittance byreceiving a secured and unique transaction reference number which is

    forwarded to them by the sender. in that case, the beneficiaries will have to goto the designated banglalink mobile cash points with proof of identificationand request for the disbursement by submitting the transaction referencenumber, the exact amount and the bank name.

    Account registration process

    Fill up the registration form and put your signature (or thumb print). If a nominee isrequired get his/her signature as well

    Provide the retailer with a copy of your passport size photograph (as well as a copyof your nominees passport size photograph) and a photocopy of any one of thefollowing photo identification documents. please bring the original valid photo

    identification document for verification: Voter ID/national ID.

    Driving license

    Passport

    The photocopy of the photo identification document must be signed and dated byboth you and the retailer

    You will receive a pin number through sms* In order to activate the mobile wallet account, you must change the pin number

    received through sms and create a pin number of your own

    Encashment process

    1. Fill up the money encashment form

    2. Provide the retailer with a copy of any one of the valid photo identificationdocuments. You have to bring the original valid photo identification document forverification:i) Voter ID./National ID. ii) Driving license iii) Passport

    3. If you have a registered mobile wallet account:i) Mention your registered banglalink number and the amount you wish to withdrawin the encashment formii) Verify your pin number for safe transaction

    iii) You will receive a confirmation sms from Banglalink

    3. if you do not have a registered mobile wallet account:i) mention the name of the bank through which remittance came, the exact amountreceived and the transaction reference id (obtained from the sender) in the form

    4. Receive your money from the retailer

    5. a. retailer will sign the money encashment form in front of youb. sign the money encashment form (or thumb print)c. the photocopy of the photo identification document and encashment form mustbe signed and dated by both you and the retailer

    a) Photo ID. that is past its expiration date

    b) photo ID. that does not resemble the applicant

    c) Student ID.

    Mobile Remittance Service of Robi

    Mobile operator Robi Axiata Limited and Eastern Bank

    Limited (EBL) also have begun a mobile remittance to

    facilitate Bangladeshi expatriates living abroad to transfer

    money through mobile phone.

    Conclusion

    Mobile remittance creates cross-boarder mobile money transfer servicesfor efficient international mobile money transfer scenarios for bothsenders and beneficiaries. An open remittance hub connects sending andreceiving money channels on a single platform, rather than throughbilateral agreements.

    Mobile remittance service puts Bangladesh on the world map as a

    pioneer in mobile banking services. The service will be rolled out soon.This gives Bangladesh the same platform to compete with any worldstandard of banking technology. It is the first of its kind and isspecifically designed to bring the benefit of formal banking to the ruralmass
