All 83 new students entering our school at
the beginning of the year enjoyed the 3-day
orientation programme held on January 12
to January 14, 2015.
A simple yet memorable welcoming ceremo-
ny for them was performed during the
school assembly. The Principal, Mr. Alexan-
der Funk, felt honoured to present the name
tag to each student.
As usual, during the programme, the new
students were presented with in-depth infor-
mation on the Academic and the Co-
Curriculum as well as the Regulations and
Discipline of the school.
They also enjoyed the two games which the
school had designed particularly for new
students. During the games, they got to
know the school buildings in detail and all of
the teachers of Maktab Nasional.
This year, we are blessed with students who
are highly talented in singing. Many were
spellbound as they listened to the melodious
voices of our new students during the clos-
ing ceremony at the school canteen.

Editor’s Note
Shalom! Greeting from the Editorial Board to Maktab Nasional. We want to welcome the New Comers for the Year 2015! It’s never too late to say welcome to the family.
We just began the second month of the 2015 School Year yet much has been ac-complished. Last Friday, one of our most important events of the year, Sports Day, was carried out with a great success.
As an ever active school that is always true to its mission, “to develop each individual to their potential through a life of open-ness to learning and change”, Maktab Na-sional will continue to work hard and to
seek more effective ways to help our students. It is our pledge to make 2015 the best year ever. How-ever, we need full-support from parents and cooperation from stu-dents.
Through this bulletin, we want parents to know our school activities throughout the year.
Please keep in mind that the administrators and teachers of Maktab Nasional are striving to bring the best out of your children at all times.

On Friday, 23th January, Maktab Nasional
students took part in the Inter-House
Cross Country event at Taman Tun Fuad
Stephens jogging track in Bukit Padang.
It was just a perfect morning to do run-
ning as the sky was blue, the air was crisp
and the sun was shining gloriously.
Perhaps being too excited to race, some
students arrived at the designated spot as
early a 6.00 am although the competition
was scheduled to begin at 7:30 am. The
whole race finished at around 9:30 am.
All of our students present that day ex-
cept those who were sick and had other
valid reasons. A big thank to all houses
for showing such commendable competi-
tive spirit and teamwork spirit not only
among members but also to the entire
school community present that day.
Read House was crowned as the overall
winner. Yellow House only managed to
be the first runner up and Blue House,
second runner up.
Congratulations to Maxemillian Schreier
Jusit who became the champion in the
Boys A Category, Teoh Shen Yee in the
Girls A Category, Muhammad Yaaseen
Bin Mohd Yunus in the Boys B Category
and Nursharmaine Shaheera Yunus in the
Girls B Category.
All three houses took the golden oppor-
tunities to have group pictures at the end
of the event which leave thrilling memo-
ries in the hearts of each and everyone
present that beautiful morning.

Due to the recent flood in the country, the
re-opening of the 2015 school session was
delayed by one week. Though Maktab Na-
sional was one of the lucky schools which
escaped the disaster, the impact hit us as
well, for our Standard Sports training peri-
od had to be shortened to two weeks.
At times the training became quite challeng-
ing as it was rainy season. Everyone
worked diligently during the training.
Teachers monitored students to make opti-
mum performance. Students spent much
times to build up their stamina. Marchers
strived to synchronize their steps. Cheer-
leaders struggled to swing their hands and
bodies in unison.
The Standard Sport went on for two days,
27th and 28th of January, and the Field
Events was on 2nd and 3rd of February at
the school campus.
The champions for the field events were as

The 2015 Sports Day of Maktab Na-
sional was held on February 6, 2015
at Likas Stadium, Kota Kinabalu.
As it is one of the most important
events organized by the school dur-
ing the early part of the school year,
all students, teachers and staff come
together to make it a success. An
overwhelming number of parents
also turned up to support their chil-
dren who participated in the track
events.
The school’s 28th Sports Day was
officiated by Guest-of-Honor Associ-
ate Professor Doctor Lee Kean
Wah.
The march past by the Red House,
Yellow House and Blue House that
day indeed exhibited discipline and
hardcore practice of the students. In
the Cheerleading Performances, all
three houses had performed in a
very highly spirited, creative, ener-
getic and entertaining moves with
lively background music.
This year’s sports day was the most
historical one for the Red House as
they had excelled in all events. They
grabbed the championship titles not
only in the March past Competition
but also in the Cheerleading Competi-
tion as well as in the Field Events
Competition. In fact, Red House was
the champion in the Cross Country
Competition which took place on
23th January 2015 at Bukit Padang.
Congratulations to Red Ferrari for
emerging the overall champion, Yel-
low Lamborghini team for winning the
second place and Blue Porsche for
obtaining the third place. Thank you
for displaying good sportsmanship.
As for the Sport Girls and Sport Boys
awards, Girls Category Under 15 was
awarded to Averill Joseph and Hannah
Batrisyia Yahya bagged the Girls Cate-
gory Under 18. Joel Magindol was
named the Sports Boy Category Un-
der 15 and Bryan Chung, Sports Boy
Category Under 18.
Everything went on very smoothly as
the weather was sunny and not too
hot nor too humid throughout the
day. This significant school function
ended on a happy note.

The merit/demerit system is a guide of discipline
for all students in Maktab Nasional. The admin-
istration expects students to be well-disciplined
and to maintain the highest standards of behavior
at all times. Failure to comply with the codes and
regulations will result in the issuing of demerits or
other disciplinary actions. A list of offences and
Come and see what Maktab Nasional is doing for the year 2015 to equip students with their
Knowledge of Faith? As the school has always striven to become a holistic excellent school there-
fore apart from constantly improving our curriculum performances and co-curriculum activities we
believe that the spiritual formation is equally important.
The School believes that apart from having individual Religious Knowledge classes we need to come together
as a whole to live out our faith as Catholics and Christians and learn to respect other Faiths.
This year the school has decided to celebrate Mass for all the Catholics and the other Christians on every 3rd
Friday of the month worshiping and praying together at the chapel at 11.25 am. This coming together is also
opened to the other students with other faiths except the Muslim students. Timetable for the Eucharistic Cele-
bration is as shown. Parents are most welcome to join us.
There will be Christian teacher’s fellowship every Wednesday beginning from the month of February.
