Red Ger Art Gallery presents Dorjderem’s ‘Non Existence’ Autumn plays open at the State Academic Theatre of Drama First ‘Ulaanbaatar’ International Film Festival organized Live performance from ‘Best of Hollywood’ soundtracks several famous and emerging artists exhibitions. Now, ACM is proudly presents Mongolian emerging artist D.Dorjderem’s solo exhibition ‘Non Existence’ from September 18 to 30 at our gallery generously hosted by Khan Bank. He made a big horse from plastic when he was around 5-6 years old. He thinks it was his first effort to express himself artistically. He felt that he must be an artist. He graduated from the Fine Arts University and is now a board member of ‘The Blue Sun’ Mongolian Contemporary Art Center. He believes, the reason why he is still dedicated to art is that he always felt that he had a creative mind. As one of Mongolia’s creative minds, artist D.Dorjderem is getting to be a well- known in the Mongolian art community. He organized 5 solo exhibitions in Mongolia and participated in 15 international exhibitions in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Belgium, France and Switzerland. As Ian Findlay -Brown, Editor and Publisher of World Sculpture News (V19,#2) wrote in his ecce about artist: ”His ideas are fresh and they speak eloquently to the confusion of his own time and to the dignity of Mongolian ancient culture.” The features of the ‘Non Existance’ exhibition are ‘Crossing the Final Threshold’ and ‘Waiting for the end’. These are life size sculptures and will play significant role in his solo exhibition. These works speak to the strength and fragility of life and its magic voyage through time and space. Dorjderem said: “My work is really about humanity, about being human about being related to our ancestors and their spirits. Nowadays, people seem to have lost their connection with the past and seem to live for today… as if yesterday never happened. I wanted to show the value of human beings through very strong sculptures. ‘Crossing the Final Threshold’ is the work of pregnant woman and it is about life-affirming birth where ‘Waiting for the End’ is about the specter of death. An old woman is crouched stoically waiting for the end of her life. Dorjderem uses traditional Mongolian materials such a horn, felt and goatskin mixing them with contemporary materials such as fiberglass. ‘Non Existence’ is all about us human beings. It is all about questions and answers, human and animal, life and death. You will witness Dorjderem’s devotion to art and you will never regret being a witness. The Mongolian film industry is on the edge of transiting from total commercialization to a new development stage. The industry’s past and the present subsists from ‘left over’ ideological films dictated by the totalitarian regime of the past and new, fully commercial films that surfaced along with the free market economy post-1990. Until now, it existed without any state subsidy and survived solely on the enthusiasm of local filmmakers and entrepreneurs. In 2013, with the government’s vision and priority, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) identified a number of strategic priorities to enhance the sustainable development Mongolia’s film industry including presentation of the best international films and film filmmakers to Mongolia; support the presentation of Mongolian films on the international film industry scene; enhance partnership and exchanges through co-production grants and international film festivals and trainings. Taking these priorities into account, the MCST together with the Arts and Culture Department of Implementing Agency of the Capital City Governor, Arts Council of Mongolia and Alliance Fran aise are going to organize the first ‘Ulaanbaatar’ International Film Festival from October 3-10, 2013. The festival team invited Mr. Thibaut Bracq, a French film expert/coordinator and the head of the Paris Project, Paris Cinema International Film Festival as the International Artistic Advisor of the festival. Based on the artistic consultancy and leadership of Mr. Bracq, the festival invited 9 internationally feature films that are selected for different sections and awards of Cannes, Berlin and Venice International Film Festival of 2013. In addition, more than 10 international film professionals presenting world renowned film festivals, distributors and funds like the Istanbul International Film Festival, Memento Films International, and World Cinema Fund are invited. France will be the ‘Focus Country’ of the festival and three French feature and documentary films will be presented along with French stars by the Alliance Fran aise and UniFrance. For the local Mongolian film makers and professionals, the festival is offering different networking and professional exchange events such as the ‘Ulaanbaatar’ Film Forum, World Cinema Fund Presentation, and ‘Access to Success’ program. The festival will open with a newly produced Mongolian feature film in 2013. By Nomintuya Baasankhuu D.Dorjderem
