RECAP: The Rainiers scored 5 runs in the top of the 6th inning as Tacoma defeated Las Vegas 6-3 on Sunday. DH Jesus Montero (2x4RBI), RF Julio Morban  (2x4, R, 3B) and 3B Leury Bonilla  (2x4, RBI) each collected 2 of the team’s 11 hits. Starter Chien-Ming W(8.0,10,3,3,2,5) recorded his 4th win with the Rainiers, allowing 3 runs on 10 hits over 8.0 innings. RH Logan Bawcom (1.0,0,0,0,0,2) stout 2 batters in a 1-2-3 9th inning to pick up his 2nd save this season.

REHAB ASSIGNMENT: LH James Paxton began his rehab assignment with AAA Tacoma on Aug. 23. In 3 rehab starts with Tacoma he

1 with an 8.10 ERA (6 ER, 6.2 IP). He was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 29 with a strained tendon in the middle finger of hishand after leaving the game in the 5th inning with discomfort in his left hand on May 28 vs. Cleveland. Paxton is 3-3 with a 3.70 ERA (24 58.1 IP) in 10 starts this season with Seattle.

RAINIERS TEAM AWARDS: The Rainiers honred four players with yearly awards on Aug. 30. Forrest Snow (10-8, 4.11) was named Pitof the Year and also earned the team’s Community Service award along with fellow pitcher Logan Bawcom. Jesus Montero (.346/130x3was tabbed Offensive Player of the Year, and John Hicks (44.0% CS rate) was selected as Defensive Player of the Year.

MONTERO NAMED TO THE ALL-PCL TEAM:  Tacoma Rainiers infielder Jesus Montero has been selected to the 2015 All-Pacific CLeague Team, the league announced on Aug. 31. Montero, 25, played in 97 games with the Rainiers this season, batting .352 with 69 runsdoubles, a career-high 6 triples, 17 home runs, and 83 RBI. His .352 batting average currently stands as the 2

nd-best mark in the league.

marks the first time a Rainiers player was selected to the All-PCL team since catcher Rob Johnson earned the honors in 2008. Montero is 15th player in franchise history to be named a post-season all-star. Montero earned two trips to Seattle during the season, a brief stint fJuly 9 – 19, and a second promotion on July 31. Montero earned his 6th career mid-season all-star selection when he was tabbed as starting first baseman for the PCL in the 2015 Triple-A All-Star Game. At the time of his selection he topped the league with 97 hits, ranked in the top 5 in games played, at-bats, RBI, and total bases. On June 2 against New Orleans, Montero went 4-for-5 with a double, gslam home run, and 6 RBI. The 6 runs he drove in against the Zephyrs matched a career high set in both 2011 and 2014. He also beltewalk-off 2-run home run on June 11 against Albuquerque in Tacoma’s 4-3 victory over the Isotopes. Montero opened the season with agame hitting streak, and notched a base hit in 15 of his first 16 contests. While with Tacoma, he notched 43 multi-hit performances, and sout multiple home runs in 2 games.

OF NOTE: 

•  This season the Rainiers have recorded 10 or more hits in 72 games…the Rainiers are batting .280 (1391x4973) with 740 runs sco245 doubles, 39 triples, 147 home runs, 680 RBI and 155 stolen bases in 143 games.o  On the road the Rainiers are batting .286 (725x2531) with 378 runs scored, 139 doubles, 29 triples, 58 home runs, 341 RBI an

stolen bases in 71 games on the road and batting .273 (666x2442) with 362 runs scored, 106 doubles, 10 triples, 89 home runs, RBI and 69 stolen bases in 72 games at Cheney Stadium.

ROY HOWELL TAKES OVER AS MANAGER: The Seattle Mariners announced that hitting coach Roy Howell would assume managerduties for the Jackson Generals for the remainder of the 2015 season beginning June 30. Jim Horner, who had managed Seattle’s Doubleaffiliate since the beginning of last year, recently accepted an assistant coaching position at Washington State University. It marks tsecond-consecutive season that Howell has taken over as manager for a Seattle affiliate. Last March, he replaced Rich Donnelly as tmanager at Triple-A Tacoma after Donnelly was named the Mariners third-base coach in Spring Training. He led the Rainiers to a 74-mark, and his 74 victories were tied for the 9th-most by a manager in his first full season. Howell, in his 4th season with the Marineorganization, spent 2012 and 2013 with the High Desert Mavericks in the California League. His managerial resume includes 3 seasons short-season Eugene (2003-05), 3 seasons with San Luis of the California Collegiate League (2007-10) and 1 season leading the field stfor the Road Warriors of the independent Atlantic League (2011). A former first-round selection by Texas in the 1972 draft, Howell loggetime in the PCL as a player with Spokane (1974) and Portland (1985), as well as 3 seasons as a hitting coach with Portland (2000-02).
