    Tacoma ALL-STAR BREAK

    HEY NOW YOU ARE AN ALL-STAR: The Pacific Coast League announced that Tacoma Rainiers infielders Jesus Montero (will not participate after recall to Seattle) and Ketel Marte, along with right-handed pitcher Forrest Snow will represent the PCL in the First National

    Bank Triple-A All-Star Game. The contest will be held at Werner Park in Omaha, Nebraska on Wednesday, July 15 at 7 p.m. CST and will be televised on MLB Network. Montero and Ketel were selected as starters, while Snow was selected to the team as a reserve. This marks the second consecutive season that multiple Rainiers players will start for the PCL in the Triple-A All-Star Game. Infielders Chris Taylor, Nick Franklin, and Gabriel Noriega started for the PCL in 2014 and were joined by right-handed pitcher Logan Kensing.

    TRIPLE-A HOME RUN DERBY: Jesus Montero (will not participate after recall to Seattle), Cody Decker and Peter O'Brien of the Pacific

    Coast League along with Jesus Aguilar, Dariel Alvarez, Matt Davidson of the International League, have been named the six Triple-A All-Star representatives to participate in the 2015 Triple-A All-Star Home Run Derby, powered by Omaha Public Power District (OPPD). The Home Run Derby took place on Monday, July 13 at Werner Park in Omaha, Nebraska.

    OF NOTE:

Jim Horner, who had managed Seattles Double-A affiliate since the beginning of last year, recently accepted an assistant coaching position at Washington State University. It marks the second-consecutive season that Howell has taken over as manager for a Seattle affiliate. Last March, he replaced Rich Donnelly as the manager at Triple-A Tacoma after Donnelly was named the Mariners third-base coach in Spring Training. He led the Rainiers to a 74-70 mark, and his 74 victories were tied for the 9th-most by a manager in his first full season. Howell, in his 4th season with the Mariners organization, spent 2012 and 2013 with the High Desert Mavericks in the California League. His managerial resume includes three seasons at short-season Eugene (2003-05), three seasons with San Luis of the California Collegiate League (2007-10) and one season leading the field staff for the Road Warriors of the independent Atlantic League (2011). A former first-round selection by Texas in the 1972 draft, Howell logged time in the PCL as a player with Spokane (1974) and Portland (1985), as well as three seasons as a hitting coach with Portland (2000-02).

    Game to be played today at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, as part of All-Star weekend. Marte, 21, went 2-for-2 with 1 RBI playing second and batting leadoff for the World Team. He was on the disabled list with fractured his left

    thumb, June 1-July 9. He injured his thumb on May 31 vs. Round Rock. He appeared in 1 game with the Mariners in the Arizona League on rehab assignment before being reinstated from the DL and transferred to Jackson for 2 games on July 9. Marte hit safely in 42 of 51 games with 19 multi-hit contest, batting .343 (68x198) with 30 runs scored, 10 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs, 24 RBI, 18 walks and 17 stolen bases with AAA Tacoma.
