Military Mule• Beedle's backpack is outfitted with

thick black bands. To follow him, the robot senses this pattern via the flickering laser in its head. LS3 also uses stereoscopic cameras to fix on the Marine's location and can trace the path he's taken by following a navigation device strapped to Beedle's right shoe. As the young private first class strides forward, the LS3 obediently trots after him, exhaust from its gas engine sputtering. "Follow-the-leader is our bread and butter," says Kevin Blankespoor, vice president of controls and autonomy at Boston Dynamics, the creators of LS3 and many other walking bots.

Military Atlas

• The robot has 28 articulated joints, and can reportedly engage in tasks required in a disaster response scenario.

• Its destiny is to compete in DARPA's Robotics Challenge, in which seven teams will use their code to program Atlas and see how well it copes.

• The “Sand Flea” is the latest creation from Google-owned robotics company, Boston Dynamics.

• The Sand Flea doesn’t look all that intimidating rolling around on the ground but it will make your jaw drop when it jumps into the air.

• Incredibly, the new robot from Boston Dynamics can soar upwards of 30 feet.

Military Drone• Unmanned aerial vehicles

(UAVS), also known as drones, are aircraft either controlled by ‘pilots’ from the ground or increasingly, autonomously following a pre-programmed mission. While there are dozens of different types of drones, they basically fall into two categories: those that are used for reconnaissance and surveillance purposes and those that are armed with missiles and bombs.

Military Wildcat• The cheetah was the inspiration

for the "cheetah robot," created by researchers at MIT and funded by the US military. Crafting the robot took five years of designing, testing, and tweaking. Developers say the robot could be adapted for prosthetics; wearable technologies; and vehicles that can travel more efficiently in rough terrains.

Military Matilda • Unlike most robotic platforms that

place an emphasis on mobility, MATILDA places an emphasis on function. Keeping this in mind, associates at Mesa Inc. identified specific UGV applications that it wanted to have present in their assembly.[2] These applications included: target surveillance, explosive device neutralization, material pickup and transport, weapon transport and firing, and law enforcement. Mesa Inc. wanted to implement these applications into an efficient low cost solution.

back-packable, multi-terrain robot capable of detecting a variety of devices without putting the operator in harm's way, which helps bomb disposal experts find and deactivate improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

It has been acquired as part of the Army's Urgent Operational Requirements and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Explosive Ordnance disposal (EOD) activity.

Special Features: Designed to operate from Navy ships, the Firescout can fly out to a hundred miles and spend 5 hours on station before returning. Its mission will be reconnaissance and over-the-horizon target designation: finding targets, directing fire to them and assessing damage, while the operators remain out of sight.

Military F-117 Night hawk• The Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk is

a single-seat, twin-engine stealth ground-attack aircraft formerly operated by the United States Air Force (USAF) developed from the Have Blue technology demonstrator and produced byLockheed's Skunk Works. It is the first operational aircraft to be designed around stealth technology. Themaiden flight of the F-117 happened in 1981 and the aircraft achieved initial operating capability status in October 1983.

Military Camcopter• Expect to see more S-100

Camcopters taking to the skies following the announcement that Boeing and Austrian company Schiebel Industries (the S-100’s manufacturer) have joined forces to market and support the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The S-100 is an remote-controlled helicopter that can carry a wide variety of payloads, including a stabilized video system for surveillance and reconnaissance, and is well-suited to military and civilian applications.
