Performing Arts – Gala Night

Thursday 24 June, the Performing Arts Department held a night featuring dance, drama, and music. The combined efforts saw over 100 students from Years 7-12 perform. Pre-show entertainment was provided by several music students while guests enjoyed food and cold drinks in the PRC.

The evening began with a Musical Theatre medley featuring songs from the musicals the College has presented over the last 20 years. Featured in this item were students from East Butler and St Francis of Assisi Primary Schools who had attended recent Performing Arts workshops at the College. Solo and duet performances by Courtney Heath, Anya Solaz McGann, Matilda Dillon, Sara Meakins and Emma Welsh and Caitlyn Emery & Chloe Fick were of a brilliant standard and the evening was ably led by the 2021 Performing Arts Captains Niamh Clarke, Skylar McNamara, Charlotte Mullins, and Bailey Ray. Sincere thanks to all the staff who made the night possible including Mr Andrijasevich, Mrs Brankstone, Mr Doe, Miss McGaw and Mr Tony Summers.

Rottnest Photography Excursion

On Tuesday, the Year 11 and 12 Design Photography students, along with Ms. George and Mr. Deurloo, braved the cold weather for their trip to photograph Rottnest. It was a long and tiring day, leaving the College at 9am and returning at 6pm, but the trip was worth it. Students had to implement the 10 compositional techniques they had learnt over the last few weeks during class and take creative photos that demonstrated their understanding of these techniques, such as the ‘rule of thirds’ and utilising ‘foreground interest’. Students also used a lens ball for certain shots. With its unique spherical shape, the lens balls create stunning imagery through the technique of refraction. For the remainder of the project, students will be editing their photos and designing tourism merchandise for Rottnest Island. The group was thankful that the weather held off and gave them the perfect day to be creative, and visit a range of locations around the island. A range of their edited photos and Rottnest merchandise will be on display next term at the College’s Creations Exhibition. Mrs Amy Richardson Head of Visual Art

St Francis of Assisi – Instrumental Workshop On Monday 28 June, the College welcomed students from St Francis of Assisi to participate in an instrumental Workshop with Year 7-9 members of the swing band. The students were ably led by music tutor and swing band conductor Mr Tim Newhouse and assisted by Mr Scott Andrijasevich. Our thanks for all the students and staff involved in making the workshop such a successful event.

Religious Education - Letters of care

Lock down can be a difficult time for our friends and family, but at the College we have tried to provide comfort to those who may be struggling. Students in Year 8, RE have written letters to Aged-Care residents in their local community, to reach out and provide comfort during these difficult times of isolation. Students spent time decorating their letters, writing prayers to those in need and providing personal stories of happiness and love, in the hope of shining some light into the lives of others. The effort and Catholic spirit the students demonstrated in their act of charity is inspiring. We can all contribute in little ways to make a big difference in people's lives, and it was truly wonderful to watch the students do this. Miss Amelia Ioannides Teacher

Community Service Cert II Class Year 11 & 12 Over the past two weeks, we have been interacting with the children from St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School. Each week we have participated in many activities with the younger children. The activities included making Yoghurt Snowmen with the Year 1s, Play-dough with the Year 2s, Slime with the Year 3s, Fruit Kebabs with the Year 4s, and Milkshakes and Pancakes with the Year 5s. Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions, we won’t be carrying on these activities until Term 3, when we will be looking forward to making Pizzas with the Year 6s. It has been such a rewarding experience getting to know the children, building bonds with them, and teaching them skills that they can use as they transition through primary school and into high school. We cannot wait to see the students all again soon! Milly Howlett Year 12
