Funding is provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Health through Funding Opportunity DP18-1807 State Physical Activity and Nutrition Program and Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Dear Families,

We have some exciting news that we’d like to share with you! Our early childhood education program has been selected to participate in a project that focuses on healthy behaviors! This project is called the Child Care Wellness Mini grant Project‐ , and uses a tool called the Pennsylvania Nutrition and Physical Activity Self Assessment for Child Care‐ , or PA NAP SACC.

We will be using the PA NAP SACC tool to assess our program’s wellness practices. We will take a look at how healthy our meals, snacks and beverages are, how active our children are both indoors and outdoors throughout the day, our program’s limitations on screen time, and more. The PA NAP SACC will help us determine areas in which we are doing well, and areas in which we can improve. We hope to use our findings to improve our program’s policies surrounding nutrition and physical activity.

Following the assessment of our wellness practices, we will develop an action plan consisting of goals that will help us to make positive changes, and we look forward to reflecting upon these goals as the year goes on.

We need your help! We would love it if you could…

Provide feedback on the healthy behaviors you see in our program and at home;

Ask how the project is going; Look for new practices, materials, and policies in our

program that focus on healthy choices; Talk with your child and update us about the new foods he or

she has tried or would like to try; Play active games with your child and limit screen time; and Tell us about fun activities, games and/or healthy recipes

that you’ve tried at home!

We are excited to be a part of a project that supports the health of all staff, children and families. Thank you for all that you do!
