================================================Manistee National Cross Country Invitational: Oct. 22, 2011================================================This week, our Michigan Runner Television cameras caught up with two members of the ManisteeNational Cross Country Invitational Race Committee; namely, Race Director, Bill Shriver and raceGM, Doug Bell. They were attending the Michigan Golf Show and representing their resorts, ArcadiaBluffs and Manistee National, to an eager golfing public. The Interview is conducted by JennieMcCafferty. http://michiganrunner.tv/2011manistee_national_xc/

Last year's highlights included Olympian Paul McMullen and his remarks at the Invitational dinner, abeautiful day for cross country racing and, for us, a chance to videotape a race in a lift with a bucketattached that could take you 40 feet in the air. We got some terrific shots of the race athttp://michiganrunner.tv/2010manistee_xc/ .

Frankly, we were a bit amazed at having over 2000 watch the shows. Hopefully, we can capture thatmagic again, as we will be taping the event this year as well.-- Art McCafferty

=======================================Tiffany Ofili Wins Silver Medal in British Debut=======================================It was a surprise to us that local (Ypsilanti, Michigan/ University of Michigan) All-American hurdlerTiffiny Ofili is competing for Great Britain. Photographer Victah Sailer was in Paris for the EuropeanChampionships and alerted us to Ofili's new affiliation. Ofili has dual United Kingdom/ United Statescitizenship because her mother is British. She was cleared to compete for Britain in September, 2010.Ofili won a bronze medal competing for he US at the 2006 World Junior Championships.

"Silver medal for Ofili on British debutBy PHIL CASEYTiffany Ofili broke the British record twice in the space of three hours, but had to settle for a silvermedal after a dramatic finish to the 60 metres hurdles at the European Indoor Championships.Ofili was born and raised in Michigan but holds dual British and American citizenship and officiallyswitched to competing for Britain in September last year.

And the 23-year-old marked her debut in style in Paris, breaking the British record held by Jessica Ennisin the semi-finals and then lowering it further in a thrilling photo-finish to the final.

Ofili hurt her right shoulder as she tumbled to the track after dipping for the line, but was pipped to thegold by Germany's Carolin Nytra.

Both athletes were given the same time of 7.80 seconds, 0.09secs faster than Ofili had run in the semi-finals. Norway's Christina Vukicevic also set a national record of 7.83s in third.

"That was really close, I had no idea if I was first or second," Ofili said. "It's a big deal and gives me alot of momentum for the outdoor season.

"I'm very proud to bring a medal home. I did my best and I'm really excited by the time. It's a bigpersonal best for me."http://sport.scotsman.com/sport/Silver-medal-for-Ofili-on.6728757.jp

========================================Grosse Pointe Run - 32 Years of Sweat and Scenery========================================

We spent a nice breakfast with the Grosse Pointe Rotary this week. They asked us in to provide someideas for their race as well as to meet the people they were sending their check to every year. BothJennie and I have run the race a number of times in the past as, like others, we were drawn to thebeautiful course that runs along the coastline of Lake St. Clair. You will get a stiff neck looking at thebeautiful homes, the boats in the marinas, the magnificent lawns and a business district that invites youto still the car engine and hang out for a while after the race.

The race is held the third Saturday in September, this year September 17, and it remains one of thestoried races in Michigan running history. If you have not put this race in your "To Do" you should.-- Art McCafferty
