MICHAELHOUSE ARTS AND EVENTS FOR JUNE 2018
Migrants Rights
Join local activists and academics for a discussion on
migrants' rights in the context of Brexit, Saturday 16
June 2018, starting 2.15pm at Michaelhouse Centre.
More than one in ten Cambridge residents are non-UK
EU nationals and their rights in the UK are still not
secured. We will discuss what 'settled status' means,
what is the 'hostile environment' and what are the main
concerns regarding migrants' rights in the context of
Brexit. We will also answer your questions at the end.

We are delighted to announce that Canon Adrian Daffern has been appointed Vicar of Great St.
Mary’s & St Michael’s from the beginning of September. Canon Daffern is presently Rector of
Woodstock and Bladon and Megan his wife is Chaplain at Jesus College, Oxford.
Canon Daffern brings a wealth of experience of parish and cathedral life, together with university
and civic engagement. He has written on the spirituality of Julian of Norwich and is an enthusiastic
organist. We greatly look forward to the development of the next chapter of our wide outreach
ministries together.
Adrian writes ‘I am excited, and humbled, to have been called to serve as the next Vicar of Great St
Mary’s. Megan and I are very much looking forward to coming to live in Cambridge; and I am going to
enjoy building relationships with members of the church, the University, and the city. It is a thrilling but
daunting vocation, and I ask for your prayers, as together we discern God’s will for our worship and witness
in the years to come’.
Welcome: The Reverend Canon Adrian Daffern

The Newnham Art Group is a well established class that
meets at St Marks Community Centre on Barton Road
in Cambridge. In fact some of our members have been
coming for 25 years!
We enjoy expressing ourselves in various media,
including oils, acrylic, watercolour, pastels and collage.
We meet weekly with a tutor, local artist Robert Good,
who shares his knowledge and encourages us to think
about and develop our work. Group members work on
individual projects and our work is diverse as you will
see in the exhibition. We are a friendly group who
enjoy the social side of our classes and are able support
and advise each other. Café Space 18-30 June.
Café Exhibition: Seasons
Come along to the opening event for 'The Yellow Brick Road', a
fundraising art exhibition on the theme of childhood and memory
for Cambridge Children's Charity Week (CCCW).
The opening event is at the Michaelhouse Café on Thursday 7 June
from 6.30-8.30pm. There will be a secret auction of art by
established and emerging artists, live music from Humfry Finkel,
a print and art book sale, a raffle and some light refreshments. All
welcome. An exhibition is in the café from 4-16 June. Come and
help raise money for local children’s charities and grab some
beautiful art for your home.

Fast forward to the year 2050. Futurologists tell us life as we know it will
have changed beyond recognition. Technology, environmental pressures, and
declining access to energy and resources will radically transform our
relationship to work, nature, our health and our bodies.
The results of a speculative design project by MA students from Cambridge
School of Visual & Performing Arts, this exhibition invites you on a journey
into that future.
Through design, photography and illustration we explore the possible
scenarios we might find as we ask: how can representing the city’s future help
us to visualise the issues that Cambridge faces today?
