Term 2 Week 9 Tuesday 19 June 2012

From the Principal

I thought I would focus on the legalities and the importance of

attendance in this week’s newsletter. Attendance at school is a

legal requirement of parents. At the school we are fully aware

that at times your child can’t attend for legitimate reasons and

thus we have processes in our record keeping systems to

indicate these i.e. legitimate reasons for absence. We however

cannot do this if we don’t know the reason for a child’s absence.

Therefore if you know your child is going to be absent please let

the school know beforehand if possible. I can grant exemptions

for legitimate reasons and thus this does not reflect on your

child’s attendance.

Many thanks to those parents who attended our Lap-a-thon

last week. A great day enjoyed by all.

This is the last week for PSSA sport. If your child has any

bus monies outstanding could this be fixed up this week

please?

We have our PBL launch occurring on Friday 20th

July. Our

PBL team is busily planning lots of fun activities for this day

and you are welcome to attend. Further information in

relation to this will be in newsletters at beginning of next

term.

Fast Fact: 1. If a student misses 8 days in a school term, by the

end of Primary, they will have missed over 1 year of

learning. If this pattern continues through high

school, students will miss nearly 3 years of

learning!

2. All secondary students who wish to leave school

during normal school hours must carry a special

leave pass issued by the school. The pass helps

police and attendance personnel to identify

students who are absent from school without

reason.

PSSA Western District Cross Country Carnival

On Wednesday 13th

June 2012 Orana Heights had 4 students

represent in the Western Cross Country carnival. We were lucky

enough to have a student in each age group. Haylee Fuller in

the 8-9 year old girls, Ryan Simpson in the 10 year boys, Aiden

Lake in the 11 year boys and Thomas Abra in the 12 year boys.

All the students competed with approximately 60 other students

in their age division from the Western area. They all had

excellent results and we are fortunate enough to wish Haylee

Fuller all the luck and support for the State carnival on the 20th

July at Eastern Creek.

Thank you to all the parents/carers who supported the District

and Western carnivals - your support is much appreciated.
