Purpose:

To educate and inform Maryland

stakeholders about the Small

Business Health Options Program

(SHOP) as a valuable resource for

small businesses to obtain health

coverage.

Key Messages:

Tax credit available to small

businesses with less than 25 full-time

employees

Employee Choice model provides

more options for employees

SHOP allows small businesses to

offer employees a variety of health

plans that fit their needs and their

budget

Created SHOP marketing guidelines to create brand consistency

Developed SHOP collateral including:

– Logo

– FAQs (English & Spanish)

– Talking points

– Brief summary for partner publications and websites

– Trifold brochure (English & Spanish)

Host a press conference and include:

– SHOP Administrators

– Carolyn Quattrocki from MHBE

– Mike Gill, Secretary of DBED

– Sean McEvoy, DBED’s Director of Small Business

– Van T. Mitchell, Secretary of DHMH

Marketing Strategy

Develop partnerships with stakeholder organizations such as:

– DBED - Dept. of Business & Economic Development

– GOMA - Governor’s Office of Minority Affairs

– SBA - Small Business Administration

– Chambers of Commerce

– Elected officials (Ben Cardin, Chris Van Hollen)

Encourage partners to outreach in the following ways:

– Provide SHOP info. on their websites with a link to SHOP website

– Distribute collateral at events and within organizations

– Train staff members on SHOP talking points to guide clients

– Add a brief summary on SHOP in publications

Present at speaking engagements weekly
