FROM THEPASTOR’SDESK
MerryChristmas
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him might not perish but might have eternal life.” – John 3:16This one line in Scripture explains fully the divine inspiration behind the Incarnation of Christ and is the foundation of the spirit of giving which we regard as an essential part of Christmas. This spirit of giving is the key for understanding the immense Gift of God to us in the Eucharist. Because Mary gave birth to the Son of God, we now have the Flesh of the Son of God near us, with us, and when we receive Him in Communion, within us. It is that same Jesus Who was born on earth and not only became man but remains man. He not only came into the world, He is in the world. The Eucharist is Christmas prolonged! We can only marvel at the fact that in sending His Son, God revealed a love for us which is infinite; a divine love made visible on that silent night in Bethlehem and continues to shine forth in the Most Blessed Sacrament.
May Christ’s blessings be with you and your families this Holy Christmas.
MASS BOOK INTENTIONS – The 2019 Mass book is now open for intention requests. Please stop by the parish office to schedule intentions for your loved ones. As a parishioner, you may schedule one weekend Mass and three weekday Masses.

SAINT OF THE WEEK
ST. THOMAS BECKETSt. Thomas Becket was Archbishop of Canterbury from 1162 until his martyrdom in 1170. He is known for resisting Henry II, the King of England, and upholding the rights of the Church. While archdeacon of Canterbury, he was made chancellor of England at the age of 36 by his friend King Henry II. When Henry felt it advantageous to make his chancellor the Archbishop of Canterbury, Thomas gave him fair warning: he might not accept all of Henry’s intrusions into Church affairs. Nevertheless, in 1162 he was made archbishop and resigned his chancellorship. Troubles soon began. Henry insisted upon usurping Church rights. At one time, supposing some conciliatory action possible, Thomas came close to compromise. He momentarily approved the Constitutions of Clarendon, which would have denied the clergy the right of trial by a Church court and prevented them from making direct appeal to Rome. But Thomas rejected the Constitutions, fled to France for safety, and remained in exile for seven years. Eventually he returned to England though he suspected it would mean certain death. Because Thomas refused to remit censures he had placed upon bishops favored by the king, one day Henry cried out in a rage, “Will no one rid me of this troublesome priest!” Four knights, taking his words as his wish, slew Thomas in the Canterbury cathedral. His feast day is celebrated on December 29 the day of his martyrdom.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWSJOY TO THE WORLD … OUR LORD HAS COME! In the quietness of Advent, we have been awaiting our Lord’s arrival and now He is here. Imagine the simplicity of His birth. A manger in a stable with only the animals because the inns have no room for Mary and Joseph. In the short weeks of Advent, we have had time to
prepare our hearts. We have had time to prepare to open the door to this infant child we call King, Savior and Lord.
We asked some of the PSR students how they could prepare their hearts for the coming of Christ and this is how they responded:
I can pray more. I can help my family. I can listen better at Mass. I can go to Adoration. I can go to Confession. I can give up candy. I can help the homeless.
The Religious Education Office would like to say thank you to Father Amberger, Father Langenkamp, the Parish Staff, the Holy Angels School Staff, and to you for your support, gifts and prayers for the more than three hundred students participating in religious education programs through PSR and Holy Angels Catholic School. Most importantly, thank you for bringing your young people and forming their young hearts to be the new missionaries of Christ!
Just as Christ simply entered the world in a quiet, barren stable, we simply wish you a very Merry Christmas. JOY to World!
