Meet Stephen Moses

2

Stephen recently joined our Debt Management and Transaction Monitoring Department (or Collections and Fraud to give it a more literal description). Based in Manchester as a Collections Manager, Stephen is extremely passionate about his job and after 16 years he’s learnt that the best way to get results is to keep having fun.

What attracted you to Worldpay?

“It’s an enormous company. It’s great to be able to say that I’m working for a market leader and everyone I spoke to was passionate about the transformation that’s happening with the company and how it’s just going to get better and better.”

How did you hear about the position and tell us about the experience of applying via that route?

“I seem to remember it was advertised on a job website. It was pretty easy. I dropped my CV in and then proceeded to be interrogated for an hour and a half on the phone by Mandip Jhaj. After that things moved quickly, I had an hour meeting Victoria Lawrence (my new boss) and Karen Barber, and then a couple of days later had a coffee with Lisa Crawley, the Director of Financial Business Operations (my bosses’ boss). Two days later I’d been offered the job. It’s as painless an interview process as I’ve experienced.”

What excites you about joining us?

“In the Collections environment there’s massive scope for change. There’s investment in systems, telephony, processes, suppliers, and most importantly people. The market is changing so quickly now we are working hard to get ahead of the curve. When I started in Collections we didn’t have customers, we had debtors. Now with all the changes in the market (for the better) driven by a combination of regulation such as the recent changes to the FCA, and the fact that it’s acknowledged that the key to keeping customers is to treat them as the most important part of the Company, we’ve got to adapt to make sure we can offer the best service… and everyone I’ve met wants to do that.”

What are you passionate about at work?

“I’m a big believer in you’re only as good as the people in the company. I don’t think people just want to have a salary, but they want a career… and so what can I do to help that? So what am I passionate about? Investing in the team and actually empowering them to make changes that they think will improve the company, and consequently their career.”

What will be the biggest challenges or opportunities in your role?

“The same answer for both… there’s so much change. In Collections we’re trying to put in a new strategy, a new system, a new telephony platform, rebuild our MI, we’ve brought on new suppliers, AND we’re heavily involved with the Transformation programme. Collections touches every part of the business so we’re involved in everything that going on.”

How do you see yourself bringing the Worldpay values (Smart, Spirited, Helpful) to life?

“As I’m new I can ask what are silly questions that probably haven’t been asked for a while. Sometimes the answer is “because it’s always been done that way”, and as a mate of mate says “if you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got”… and I’m always in an annoying good mood!”
