Tim Jones Chair of Devon and Cornwall Business Council

Tim Jones is a Board Member of the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership (having served as Chairman from its inception) and Chairman of Devon & Cornwall Business Council. He is also involved in a number of other organisations including the executive of the HoTSW Business Forum, Board Member of Water Share Panel, Board Member of Plymouth Chamber, Vice Chairman of Plymouth Area Business Council and Board Member of North Devon +. Board Member of the Local Transport Board and Tim is the national lead for the LEP Network on the Great Food Plan (a Defra initiative).

Outside business related activities, Tim is also involved in a wide range of Criminal Justice Issues being a Special Advisor to HM Prison Services serving on the South West Regional Offending Board, is Chairman of Broadreach which deals with a wide range of Drug and Alcohol Services and is a Patron of Tomorrow’s People. Trustee for the Dartington Hall Trust, Trustee for the Outset Foundation and Trustee for Fort Bovisand. Tim also served for 22 years as Chairman of the Princes Trust for Devon & Cornwall and as a South West Regional Board Member.

Tim has active business interests and has been involved for over 30 years in a wide range of property issues. Tim is now extensively involved in Commercial Property Development across the South West Peninsula and is a Director within Belstone Fox Project Management Ltd and Wessex Investors Ltd.

Stephen Dunmore Chief Executive at Fundraising Regulator

Stephen Dunmore was appointed as Chief Executive of the Fundraising Regulator in December 2015. He was previously Chief Executive of the New Opportunities Fund and the Big Lottery Fund.

Since leaving the Big Lottery Fund in 2008, Stephen has been Interim

Chief Executive of the Responsible Gambling Fund, The Diana Princess of

Wales Memorial Fund, the Lumos Foundation, the National Consumer

Council and the Family and Childcare Trust. He was Chair of

Capacitybuilders, National Family Mediation and the BBC’s Awards

Advisory Committee; and served as a member of the Office of the Third Sector’s Advisory Body.

Stephen is also a trustee of The Prince’s Countryside Fund.

How to Create an Effective Brand

This masterclass will look at what branding is (hint: it’s a lot more than a logo) and examine traits of a successful brand. It will also give you a chance to consider different types of relationship a brand can have with your target audiences (e.g. donors, volunteers, service users) and how to develop key messages and what to do with them. This session is being facilitated by Lathwells & Associates.

Niki Lathwell is Director at Lathwell & Associates. Her marketing career has spanned three decades and four continents. Today, she is working with businesses as diverse as retailers TK Maxx and John Lewis, developer AXA REIM through to local kebab seller and garden shed maker! In the social sector she works for a range of international organisations such as Care International and local groups like Calvert Trust Exmoor and Assist Teignbridge. She is committed to helping smaller businesses and voluntary groups to plan their marketing effort cost-effectively.

Verity Baum comes from a corporate financial background with extensive experience in training, digital, portfolio and business management. She is able to assess individual and business needs to find solutions. As an IT Trainer Verity is able to provide one to one support and workshops to a variety of audiences helping both individuals and businesses achieve their goals by raising awareness of all aspects that are associated with digital technology.

Stephen Dunmore was appointed as Chief Executive of the Fundraising Regulator in December 2015. He was previously Chief Executive of the New Opportunities Fund and the Big Lottery Fund.

Jenny Fish is a Funding Officer (Local) for the England Early Contact Function of the Big Lottery Fund providing support and services across Devon, Cornwall, Plymouth, Dorset and Torbay. Her role is to promote Big’s demand led funding portfolio, primarily Awards 4 All and Reaching Communities and apply local knowledge of the area to comment on applications prior to assessment. She delivers learning and information to the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector on Big Lottery funding strands and engages with local stakeholders in order to inform funding programmes.

Conversation Hub with Big Lottery

This is an open conversation session looking at building skills in an organisation. It will look at what support needs organisations require to help them become sustainable

and will include case studies and local learning. You will have the chance to debate local perspectives and provide feedback into the new strategic direction of funding and support from Big Lottery.

Pros, Cons and Risks: Which organisational structure is right for your group?

Are you a constituted charity but wondering whether your group would be better off being a Community Interest Company? Does your group or organisation have an interest in trading for income generation purposes, but are unsure on opportunities and restrictions? This session will look at charitable and social enterprise legal structures and is being facilitated by Tozers Solicitors.

Conversation Hub with Voluntary Voice

This is an open conversion with an elected Voluntary Voice Representative for one of the seven countywide Strategic Partnerships. This session will examine the role the voluntary sector plays in strategic partnerships, how it can influence decisions made and can help deliver services to meet strategic priorities. This session is facilitated by Voluntary Voice.

Richard King, a partner at Tozers for over 30 years, is well known for his expertise in charity law, featuring in the Legal 500 and Chambers law directories. The majority of failures to the Big Lottery small and medium open programmes is prompted by applicants not understanding how to evidence that they know what matters most to the communities they support and what obstacles are getting in the

way of communities addressing these. This masterclass will take you through some of these consistent issues and how to overcome them. This session is being facilitated by the Big Lottery.

Micro-Volunteering: How, What and Why?

This session will investigate what micro-volunteering is and how your organisation can capitalise on this type of volunteering opportunity. Using real case studies of existing

micro-volunteering, you will look at why these examples have been successful as well as having a chance to think about developing your own micro-volunteering opportunities. This session is being facilitated by Devon Voluntary Action.

This will be delivered by a Volunteer Support Worker.

Conversation Hub with Libraries Unlimited

This is an open conversation session on sharing experiences of building partnerships with the public sector and developing an organisation delivering a public service. This session is facilitated by Libraries Unlimited.

Ciara Eastell is the Chief Executive of Libraries Unlimited and an ex officio trustee. Ciara is currently President of the Society of Chief Librarians. She has over 20 years’ experience as a Chartered Librarian and is the former Head of Libraries, Culture and Heritage for Devon County Council. Ciara is passionate about the potential of public libraries, the value of reading and the power of information to transform lives. She is currently an advisor to the British Library, Carnegie UK and is a member of the national Leadership for Libraries Taskforce and the Children's Laureate Steering Group.
