Film Poster:

Language:The title of the film near the bottom of the poster is simple, the tagline at the top of the poster is also simple but effective, just 6 words to describe the film in such a way to give you an image of the world without rules meaning there will be an abundance of crime and the likes.

Institution:The name of the main institution displayed at the bottom of the poster is Warner Brothers (they produced and published the film).

Audience:Every film has an age recommendation because some of the content featured in the film might be inappropriate for children under a certain age; The Dark Knight is intended for children 12 years of age and older which means this film is generally allowed and meant to be watched by 12 year olds or early teens and anyone that is interested that is over the age of the recommendation.

Representation:In the poster we can see the main character (Batman). The image is at a low angle-making Batman look tall and intimidating; above him is the bat symbol, which looks to be burning; this could be representing the crime element of the tagline because people aren’t usually allowed to light the face of a building on fire without there being rules, hence the tagline, the poster isn’t particularly colorful apart from the burning symbol which implies that this film creates quite a dark mood and a step up from the previous title (Batman Begins) being more inappropriate for young children and more appropriate and appealing for older children.
