development of film poster media - year 13
TRANSCRIPT
DEVELOPMENT
OF FILM
POSTER
STEP 1
I picked a suitable
photo from the
selection of 20 photos
I had taken.
STEP 2
I used the lasso on
Photoshop to cut out
the background,
because I had planned
it to be solid black,
since this is common
amongst psychological
thriller posters.
STEP 3
I changed the filter of
the photo from colour
to black and white, to
fit in with the common
genre conventions of
psychological thriller
posters.
STEP 4
I pasted the two
photos consisting of
the four protagonists
(two in each
binocular).
STEP 5
I added the film name
in a burgundy colour. I
made sure that it was
the largest text on the
poster, so that it could
stand out.
STEP 6
Towards the top of the
poster are the names
of the four main cast
members. Typical
poster conventions
have cast names at
the top.
STEP 7
I decided to add a
silhouette of the
Belvedere, since it is
important in the
synopsis of my film
trailer.
STEP 8
I added a burgundy
outline of the
silhouette of the
Belvedere to make it
stand out more.
STEP 9
Release Dates are key
on posters and need
to be clear, so that the
audience is aware
when the film is
released in cinemas.
This is why I placed it
on top of the silhouette
in all caps to make it
stand out.
STEP 10
In recent years, due to
the increase in
popularity of social
media, It is now a
typical poster
convention, which is
why I decided to put
logos for Facebook,
Twitter and Instagram,
with the username.
STEP 11
Billing Blocks are
another key
convention that are
prominent on all film
posters. This details
the institutional
information of the film,
like production
companies, actors,
director, writer etc.
STEP 12
Tag Lines are usually
used to entice the
audience about an
aspect that will occur
in the film. In this case,
it is whether the
students will take the
risk.
STEP 13
By having acclaim and
award recognition on
the covers, this makes
the audience believe
that they should watch
the film. This is
common among film
posters nowadays,
especially ones which
have niche audiences.
