It is only natural to conclude the series by offering a few general pointers about weight loss. This article will focus on the common mistakes that many people make when trying to lose weight, mistakes which decrease chances of success and sometimes even result in weight gain. 1. Focusing on one group of food only This is one of the most common weight loss mistakes. It is widely believed that focusing on only one group of food, e.g., vegetables, and avoiding other foods (meat, dairy) will result in weight loss. However, this isnt necessarily true. Our bodies need carbs, proteins, fat, and other nutrients obtained from other kinds of food just as much as vegetables and fruits. It is all about balancing foods and restoring balance in the body. Balanced nutrition should revolve around vegetables, but it is important not to exclude other types of food from your diet. You can increase the amount of vegetables and proportionally decrease other groups of food. You will eat less, but will still get the unique nutritional value of the different types of food.

The truth is, skipping meals only makes you eat more later; you can gain more pounds than you wanted to lose. It is of huge importance to eat when youre hungry but in moderation. Additionally, you should always have your breakfast. It is the most important meal of the day. Numerous studies have confirmed that people who skip breakfast weigh more than people who dont. After all, breakfast gives you energy to get through the day. Most diets recommend eating fresh fruits, vegetables, or eggs for breakfast because they are a great source of protein. You should decide what meal you will have and what ingredients you should use. Lack of organization can lead to an unbalanced diet. Even if you choose quality ingredients full of vitamins and nutrients, though, it wont mean much if you dont prepare them properly. Choose non-stick skillets to reduce the usage of cooking oil, and cook in liquids (water, fruit juice, stock, wine, lemon juice) whenever you can. When browning vegetables, instead of adding oil to the skillet, use oil in spray form; or you can cook vegetables in a microwave and crisp them under the grill. It is important not to skip meals and not to eliminate one food group entirely to focus on another type of food. In order to get the best out of the foods you eat, you should prepare them properly, without using too much cooking oil, so that all your ingredients retain their full nutritional value. Diet should be about balance; the body needs that balance in order to lose weight instead of gaining it.
