MDS Summer Camp Newsletter

Page 2: MDS Camp Newsletter, Week 4

The fourth week of camp in P’rachim and Kochavim was simply spectacular. Kinderdance with Teacher Michelle was so exciting as we learned new dances. We loved jumping around and learning how to "drive" on the road. When we baked with Shari, we made delicious treats for pajama day, banana chocolate chip muffins! All of the children got the opportunity to squish the bananas in a plastic bag for muffins. In art with Morah Debbie, we got the chance to be hands-on as we used our fingers and hands to paint mini-easels. On pajama day we used dot art to decorate our own stuffed animals. The children loved making their own bear to snuggle with. With Morah Simona we had a great time creating and playing with play dough. Learning how to create play dough and getting to pick the color was an extra special experience.

Pajama day was so exciting when we saw each others pajamas and had our special treats of muffins and cookies. Later in the day Miss Haley from The Nature Company came with some animals friends. We got to say hello and pet Chomper the bearded dragon, Maya the tortoise, Doris the dove, and Millie the desert millipede. The children loved the chance to learn about animals with some of their senses. The animal show finished with a puppet show featuring Lizzie the lizard and some of her bug friends. We can't wait to see the exciting things that happen next week.

We are so sad to say goodbye to our friend Naftali, but excited to say hello to our friends Emma, Toni, and Alexander! We are also excited to welcome new counselors Celia to Prachim and Lily to Kochavim.

For our fourth week of camp we said goodbye to a few friends and welcomed a new one! We kicked off the week in baking making banana cake and later thumbprint cookies which we filled with jelly! In Gym class we did an obstacle course, it was fun jumping from dot to dot, crawling through the fun house and run-ning in a zigzag through the cones.

In Super Soccer Stars we made a birthday cake with rubber dot "sprinkles," and cone "candles!" The best part was blowing out the birthday candles by knocking the cones down with the soccer balls. In science we made two awesome mushy things! First we made play dough and were even able to take some home! Then we made Ooblek an awesome goo that isn't solid or liquid! It was so fun to touch and squeeze in our fingers. On Thursday we celebrated Pajama Day! We came to camp in our Pajamas and enjoyed breakfast food for lunch! We made stuffed animals to cuddle with in art and met real animals with the Nature Company! We finished the week with Yoni singing fun songs and enjoying Shabbat Party! We will see you back here next week! Morah Yona and Morah Rachel Morah Sara and Morah Lily

Dagim

The first half of camp has come to an end,

We've shared so many memories and made new friends.

In SwimJim we learned to swim with our arms this way and that,

Your legs need to be straight and your back very flat.

In gym we did an obstacle course it was so much fun,

We gathered inside the giant stretch rope working together as one.

In Kinderdance with Teacher Michelle we did the "body talk",

We galloped on the "road" and around the cones we did walk.

In science we explored things that were dry and wet to the touch,

We made our own play dough and oobleck and we loved it so much.

On pajama day we had "sleepy races" and told bedtime stories-what a blast!

We had Cookies and chocolate milk, the day went by too fast!

The art kits that we packed for children in Israel was truly a sight to see,

We did such a great job and were the biggest mitzvah helpers we could be.

The Nature Company taught us about animals and all that they do,

We saw Chomper the bearded dragon and Maya the tortoise too.

Can you believe the first half of camp is already done,

But don't be sad- half two is coming it will be so much fun.

Tziporim Wow! Can you believe half one is done?

It went by so fast and was so much fun.

This week we made breakfast banana muffins in baking,

And cuddly animals in arts and craft making.

This all built up to our big pajama day.

Where everyone came in their PJs ready to play.

We ate breakfast for lunch, it was so delicious.

But please do not worry, it was also nutritious.

The nature company came and we saw a bearded dragon, red footed turtle and a dove.

We also saw a millipede, which everybody loved.

We packed boxes for the children in Israel so they won't be scared.

It was such a fun way to show them that we care.

In science we made ooblek, which depending on the pressure changes from gooey to firm.

We all got to try it while patiently waiting for our turn.

In gym we learned how to bat with our knees bent, elbow up, and eye on the ball.

We also did an awesomely big obstacle course where we had to run, jump, throw, and crawl.

A big happy birthday goes out to Ariella, who turned four this week.

We wish you a happy and healthy year that's both exciting and unique!

We would like to welcome Moreh Max to our bunk.

He's come with lots of energy, excitement, and a whole lot of spunk.

Please rest up and get ready for half number two,

There are so many more fun and exciting things to do.

Shabbat shalom!

Malkot We began week 4 of MDS day camp preparing the campers for our exciting animal show by creating animal

puppets in art with Morah Debbie. Continuing the theme, the Malkot decorated tzedakah boxes covered with

animal prints.

In baking we put together ingredients for banana bread to eat on pajama day! What better food to eat while in

your pajamas?

Morah Simona showed the Malkot that play dough is really all natural, just some salt, water, food coloring, and

flour will do the trick! We became real scientists when we discovered that adding too much borax to glue and

water makes slime a bit more stretchy, kind of like... silly puddy!

In music, the Malkot became music teachers when we taught yoni how to play let it go! Boy was that fun!

Pajama day was a dream come true! We got to spend all day in our cozy pj's while enjoying waffles, banana

bread, and chocolate milk. In art the Malkot designed their own stuffed animals. We even got to watch an ani-

mal show coming from the nature company where we spoke about camouflage, and much more. We got to

touch a lizard, a tortoise, a dove (which was very exciting after learning out dove song!), and a millipede. Ani-

mals are so interesting and a lot of fun!

We said good bye to Tali, Megan and Aderet. We will miss you!

We can't wait for more fun to come next week in camp!

Shabbat Shalom,

Morah Sarah and Morah Mollie

Dear Giborim Parents,

It's hard to believe that the summer is halfway done! This week we welcomed a few new friends to our group. We had a packed week filled with tons of fun activities.

In baking we made banana muffins and press cookies. Press cookies are made by rolling the dough into a ball and pressing your thumb into the middle to create a well. We then filled our cookies with jam, frosting, and sprinkles; they were delicious! In art we made lots of fun animal projects with Morah Debbie. We made adorable animal puppets and decorated tzedaka boxes with cool animal prints.

In science we learned how to make play dough and slime. While these were both fun to play with, we noticed a few differences between them. The play dough was made out of completely edible ingredients, while the slime has borax in it; which we know we cannot eat!! Additionally, the play dough was smooth and easy to create new shapes with. The slime was very sticky, but when rolled into a ball it could bounce!

On Thursday, all of the children came to camp in their favorite pajamas. However with so many fun activities

planned, there was no time for sleeping. We painted cute stuffed animals in art. We then participated in a wonderful mitzvah with the Artists 4 Israel organization. We packaged fun art kits to be sent to children in Israel. These packages will be shipped to Israel and be delivered to preschools all over the county. As our pajama day continued, we had breakfast for lunch with yummy waffles and scrambled eggs. We then splashed around in the sprinklers and ran around the yard. Our day ended with a visit from The Nature Company. We learned about the different types of reptiles and that all reptiles have scales. We met four different animals: Chomper the bearded dragon, Mia the red-footed tortoise, Doris the dove, and Millie the millipede. These animals were so cool to look at and we even got to touch some of them. After such an exciting week, we are looking forward to what next week has to bring. Shabbat shalom, Morah Rena and Matin

A Message from Morah Marsha

It is hard to believe that we have reached the half-way

point of camp. While we were sorry to see some campers

and a few dedicated staff leave us, we welcome our new

campers and new staff members. It has been quite

gratifying to have a number of campers extend their stay

with us as well.

This morning our Dagim, Tziporim, Malkot and Giborim

participated in a very special activity. They packed art kits

to send to children in Eretz Yisrael who have been effected

by the trauma of running in and out of shelters these last

few weeks. Each of our campers drew a special picture to

put in the art box that they packed. It was heartwarming to

watch our campers perform this mitzvah.

All of our campers enjoyed a fascinating show given by

The Nature Company. We met a millipede - yes her name

was Millie, a bearded dragon, a dove and a red footed

turtle. Many of our brave campers got to touch the dragon

and the turtle. We are so glad that so many of our

Kochavim and P’rachim stayed to enjoy the show!

Looking forward to continuing the fun of summer 2014!

Shabbat Shalom

There are many exciting activities happening at camp every week . Our

counselors take pictures of the children having fun and keeping busy

throughout the day. While we can’t include all pictures in the Newsletter,

the pictures are uploaded every week to Dropbox, a private photo-

sharing website. (These pictures cannot be accessed without a direct

link.) Links to the photos are below - click the link to your child’s bunk to

see their pictures. More pictures will be added on an ongoing basis but

the link will stay the same, so you can save it for future viewing. We hope

you enjoy!
