    DevotionalBy Jill Briscoe (www.justbetweenus.org)

The LORD is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I amhelped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, And with my song I will praise H

Psalm 28:7By Jill BriscoeI had a burden; I had a beautiful daughter who was really excited about takinon life with all it had to offer! The dating had begun, and I was frightened. She told me not to be afraid. Im not afraid, Mom, she said cheerfully.Thats why I am, I replied grimly. What do you do when your daughter re-fuses to allow you to go along on her dates? I discovered one thing I could was to pray. Another thing I could do was to trust. I asked Jesus to tell th

Father, Someone I love needs shielding. He did, of course. The Father told Jesus to tell me Hed look after it for me; Jesus told me.

The next day I was driving along the highway in my car, and I asked Jesus tremind the Father about my burden. He told me the Father would like to remme He didnt need reminding. Iwas the one who needed that!

The following day, when I knelt in prayer, I told Jesus to tell the Father Iloved Him. The Father, through Jesus, thanked me and told me He would like t

hear me say something else. He would like to hear me say, And I trust You,too! Trust comes with knowing God, and leaning hard, when hard thingscome. Trust comes with experiencing His presence, taking the risk, and meeting Him in the dark.

Ode to My SonBy Jaimie Bowman

My, My, MyHow could this be

That my child is a dictatorWho is only three

I thought you were easyWhen you were just one

But now you are quite the high-maintenance son

    Your list of demands

Makes it hard to keep upWith your "no sauce on my pasta!"And "ice in my cup!"

You're the three year old rulerYes, that's what it's like

Who still wears Pull UpsSince you pee at night

You cry "Get Away!I can do it myself!"

But still want me to dress youand to buckle your beltYou hate wearing socks

And any long-sleeved shirtYou want to be "free"

but that's just one of your quirks

    You hate getting wet

And don't want dirt on your clothesIs my list done yetOf the things that you loathe?

No, it's just the beginningYes, that's just the start

Yet somehow you still manageTo capture my heart

Some days I see youAnd see pieces of me

And some days I wonderIf you're three or thirteenLord, help me love you

The best that I canAnd not tear my hair out

    Or forget who's in command

I know we'll get through thisAnd I'll look back and smileBut Lord, give me patience

    Because I've been here awhile

So as you lay sleepingI'll kiss your sweet faceTomorrow's a new day

    Lord, give me grace.
