Club Information

News from the General Manager Kevin M. DwyerWelcome Home! That was the message to the Old York CC at Chesterfield membership on Friday, March 19, 2010 as over 100 members gathered together to attend an informational General Membership Meeting held at the club. What an exciting night as we discussed many topics of interest including the state of the club, the ownership and the future direction of OYCC. For those of you that were there, it was indeed a pleasure to meet you! And those that could not attend, I look forward to seeing you at the club very soon.

It truly was a "Welcome Home" to Mr. and Mrs. Eget as the operations of the club are no longer leased to the RDC Golf Group. The decision to resume control of operations was made on February 15, 2010. Mr. and Mrs. Eget have an evident passion for the club and members and are clearly committed to providing the membership with an exceptional experience in all areas.

Since the announcements made at this meeting, you may have noticed several improvements that have already been made to the club's physical plant and golf course. A much needed replacement of the roof on the club's banquet facility was the first order of business. This will protect our investment for the membership to enjoy a beautiful facility overlooking the tenth hole. Additional roofing repair projects are underway on all of the club's remaining buildings including the main clubhouse, the pro shop and maintenance barns.

In short order, the club contracted a painter to address the exterior painting needs including the main entrance of the banquet facility, the locker room entrances and the pro shop entrance. Additional painting jobs are contracted to address the main entrance and the clubhouse patio. In early April, the club's parking lots were also restriped.

As you may know, I introduced our Golf Course Superintendent, Mr. Dean White, to the membership at the general meeting. I am extremely proud of the progress that we have made with the maintenance of the golf course since Dean's arrival. If you have played recently, I am sure you will notice the professional approach to our agronomic program. As part of the development of the club's master plan, we invited Mr. Jeff Lawrence, Senior Designer at the Gary Player Group, to visit with us to review the existing conditions of the golf course and evaluate any changes that have been made since opening day in 1995. This visit was an excellent opportunity to re-establish a relationship with the Player

Group to assist us in any future improvements that are to be made.

The Word is Out! Many in the community are aware that exciting changes have been made at your club! We encourage you to be an Ambassador of the club by inviting colleagues and friends to enjoy the club and introduce them to membership opportunities. We rely heavily on the membership for referrals and we know that can only be accomplished when you are proud of your club and its offerings. You have our commitment that we will continue on our path to improve all of the club's offerings.

Executive Chef, Jeff DeLawder, is proud to introduce a new seasonal menu featuring a greater variety of selections with a focus on freshness and the highest quality of product and presentation. Our goal is to provide the membership an outstanding value in all of the dining areas so you will make OYCC your first choice when considering where to dine! So, please join us to be treated to fabulous cuisine served professionally at the club! Restaurant Manager, Jim Plunkett, has prepared our service team for a busy season in all of the dining rooms.

As always, I look forward to your visits being often and enjoyable!

Best regards,

Kevin M. Dwyer General Manager

Policy Reminder – House AccountsPlease be reminded that the club extends credit to the membership for a period of up to 30 days. All member accounts must be satisfied in their entirety by the last day of the month for the previous month's statement amount. The club's operation relies heavily on the assumption that all members will pay their obligations in a timely manner.

If, for some reason, the payment is not received by the last day of the month, a finance charge of 1.5% (18% per annum) will be automatically charged to the member's account. All members will have until the 15th of each month to satisfy the charges (including finance charges) before club privileges will be suspended.

We thank you for your support to the club!

If you play golf at OYCC, you are sure to know the smiling face of a long time member of our team, Mr. Joe Carroll. Joe has been a face of our outside golf operation since 2008 providing great service and professionalism to our members and guests! We are pleased to know that Joe will continue his great services in our shoe room out of the sun for the 2010 season!

In addition to being a great team member, Joe is the proud father of three children, Brie, 18; Joey, 16; and Delaney, 9. Both Joe and his wife, Kim, are very proud of their children for their accomplishments and Brie, in particular, has a very recent special story to tell.

At the age of 13, Brie was diagnosed with a brain tumor and endured 9 hours of surgery to remove 75% of the tumor. Following the surgery, Brie had continued treatment at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. We are pleased to know that Brie has been in remission for the past five years.

Recovering from her surgery and trauma had taken a toll on Brie’s emotions and she eventually became depressed. At the advice of her medical team, Brie attended a one week summer camp in the Poconos for Pediatric Oncology patients. This experience had a profound effect on Brie’s outlook as her smile returned with a new attitude! This new outlook included the drive to give something back to the community with the founding of a non-profit corporation called “Brie’s Buddies.” With the help of long time friend and OYCC member, Michael Paglione, Brie’s Buddies has organized events resulting in donations exceeding $75,000 to the Ronald McDonald House and Camp No Worries. These camps specialize in retreats for current and former oncology patients.

Brie’s efforts resulted in national recognition by Nike Team Livestrong as she joined five other survivors as Nike Team members for the tour de France. The recognition included the opportunity to visit France for a week in July with all expenses paid to support Team Nike. Brie opted to decline the invitation and accepted the opportunity to become a counselor at Paul Newman’s Hole in the Woods Gang for the entire summer of 2010. What an example of a fine young lady to dedicate her efforts to a theme of “giving back.” So, check out Brie’s progress and accomplishments on both www.nike.com/livestrong and www.briesbuddies.com.

Joe is very proud of all of his children and we are proud of Joe to be the parent of such a fine person as Brie.

Grounds News Dean white, GoLf course superintenDentWelcome Home! was the message the Club promoted during Opening Day in April. After being hired on March 18th and diving in to work on the 19th, it has been a fleeting and successful first 6 weeks on the job. My name is Dean White and I am proud to be your new Golf Course Superintendent. I am looking forward to continuing to improve the golf course and the golfing experience for you and your guests. While we made a lot of improvements Club-wide in the month of April, we are invested in the long-term restoration of the Old York name and tradition and the unique and challenging Gary Player Signature golf course.

A brief recap of the last 6 weeks would be highlighted by the condition of the greens. I began this new chapter in my career a little late in the season to control Poa annua seed heads for 2010. My goal was to keep the greens as hungry and dry as possible to coax some ball roll and as much smoothness as possible out of our greens, given the seed heads, for Opening Day, GAP Matches and Member play. We also made it a priority to mow all of the grass on the golf course with a concentrated effort on mowing all rough around greens, tees, and fairways several times per week. Additionally, we re-instituted a step cut of rough around the entire golf hole including some short

mowed areas around selected greens. By the beginning of May pre-emergent crabgrass and weed control applications will be completed on all turf including the fescue areas.

Looking ahead to May and June we will begin to groom greens frequently. This means keeping a regular bi-weekly schedule of verticutting and topdressing greens, double-cutting as needed, and rolling several times a week. While we will be applying a late Poa seed head suppression application at the end of April that will keep the greens looking off color through early May, the greens will look greener and healthy later in the month as this application wears off. Fescue management will be part of our program too. The fescue will be mowed at least one more time in May, irrigation heads will be turned off or adjusted to not water fescue to keep the grass from becoming overgrown, and spot treatment of grassy and broadleaf weeds will continue. Certain in-play fescue areas will remain trimmed to help you locate your ball. Mow lines for the fescue will be established sometime around mid-May. By early June the golf course will have a fresh look for the summer. Also in May, we will have a golf course contractor on site to add drainage on # 13 fairway just past the 150 yard marker. This will alleviate the

perennial wet area at the end of the fairway. We will also be re-grading and sodding drainage basins on most fairways throughout the golf course. Hopefully, by the beginning of June, the majority of the bare and poorly draining fairway basin will be repaired.

I would like to thank Ed and Corinne Eget for supporting me with encouragement and capital; Kevin Dwyer for having the vision and desire to hire an excellent Superintendent (haha); and to the Golf Course Maintenance staff anchored by Billy DeSantis (18 year employee) and Miguel Pineda (15 year employee) for helping me through what could have been a much more difficult first month. Please feel free to contact me at anytime with questions or comments at [email protected]. My goal for 2010 is to give you the best golf course conditions you've had in many years, thereby helping to restore your pride in your Club, and hopefully promoting the desire to bring out your friends and colleagues to show it off. Welcome Home to Old York!

The Legend

2010 Host Families needed for Trusted Choice “BIG I” national ChampionshipOld York CC at Chesterfield is hosting the 2010 Trusted Choice “BIG I” National Championship from July 27-30.

160 golfers (boys and girls) will be participating from around the country. As part of the tournament, we need to provide housing for roughly 50% of the participants through host families. Back in 2003 when Old York hosted the tournament, we had over 50 families house our junior golfers from around the country and they will tell you what a great experience it was and most are already looking forward to being a host family again in 2010.

You will meet your golfers when they arrive at Old York on Sunday, July 25th. Your responsibilities as a host parent are to make sure the golfers get to and from the golf course each day, make sure they are given breakfast (also available at the course) and dinner each night. On Monday the 26th the tournament has a welcome banquet that the golfers will attend and on Wednesday the 28th there is a pool party at the club. As host families you are welcome to join the golfers at both functions. Lunch will be provided to the golfers Tuesday through Friday. When the golfers are dropped off at the course on Friday they will bring their luggage with them and depart for the airport following the tournament that afternoon.

We ask each host family to house a minimum of 2 golfers. Both golfers will be the same gender and similar ages. The participants are between the ages of 14 and 18. I encourage anyone who can be a host parent for the week to take advantage of this opportunity.

If you are interested in being a host family, please reply by email with the following information:

Name and address Cell phone and home phone number Preference of mail or female Do you have any animals in your house? (possible allergies) Feel free to call me with any questions.

Clubhouse Talk

Jeffrey DeLawDer, executive chefDear Members,

It has become increasingly important to be cautious of what we eat and how we eat it. With that said most, if not all, markets carry organic ingredients but are not necessarily frugal. Frugal ingredients can be achieved by simply having a small garden or just a few crops.. Tasting vegetables or produce that You have cultivated Yourself is incredibly satisfying and well worth the time.

Sometimes a diet can be as easy as changing one ingredient or one method of cooking. Changing your diet to include grape seed oil can help, it is delicious and has many wonderful culinary uses. Grape seed oil is extracted from grape seeds and has a relatively high smoke point, approximately 420 °F so it can be safely used to cook at high temperature. Grape seed oil can be used for stir-fries, sautéing and fondue. In addition to its high smoking point, grape seed oil has other positive attributes in relation to cooking. It has a clean, light taste that has been described as "nutty". Because of its "neutral" taste, grape seed oil is often used as an ingredient in salad dressings or as a base for infusing or flavoring with garlic, rosemary, or other herbs or spices. It is also used as an ingredient in homemade mayonnaise.

The metabolic energy density of grape seed oil is comparable to that of other healthy oils such as Olive Oil: about 120 kcal per tablespoon (34 kJ/ml). However, because less oil is needed for cooking, it can be used within a low-fat diet especially when combined with good frying techniques (such as using enough oil, not overcrowding the pan, and having the oil at the correct temperature) which reduces the amount of absorbed oil.

Come out to visit us in the Restaurants and Locker Room to experience our new Spring/Summer menus. You're going to love the new look!

Respectfully,

Jeffrey De LawderExecutive Chef

JiM pLunKett, restaurant ManaGerMy first two months at Old York CC have been great! It has been exciting getting to know all of our members, and enjoying my first events, such as Easter and Opening Day!
