Meaning: This prayer is to Bhu matha (mother earth) Oh! Goddess,Bhudevi! Dressed in the apparel of ocean, whose chest is like the beautiful

hills and who is the concert of lord Vishnu, I submit myself to you please

forgive me as I walk on you.

Explanation;

We all know that of Earth’s surface is covered with water and with earth

.All living beings are in some way or other utilizing the earth for food and

shelter. Earth is full of resources like metals, petrol, underground water etc.

Several plants that are useful to the living beings grow on earth Rivers originate

on the mountains and flow on earth giving sweet water for drinking and also

for cultivation on their way before they join seas. As earth is useful to us in so

many ways we consider her as one of our five mothers.

By mistake if we touch any one with our feet, we immediately say ‘sorry and

ask for pardon’ as it is akin to disrespecting the divinity with in him or her. Is

There is an interesting episode where the principle of not wasting resources

is followed by our great leader, Mahatma Gandhi ji.

Gandhi ji used to bathe in the freely flowing water of Sabarmati River near the

ashram, consciously using only the minimum requisite water needed for taking

bath. When people ask him why he is using water so sparingly when it is

available in abundance Gandhi ji told that all the water flowing in the river is

not his. This is an example of an exemplary action related to conservation of

resources of the nature. Likewise all should practice conservation of natural

resources and save our mother Earth.

We should not abuse the resources of nature. We should not pollute

the environment. We should not insult our mother earth by throwing garbage

wherever we like , spit on her or urinate where ever we like. We protect her,

love and respect her by keeping her clean and pure.
