CIRCUIT RIDER

As I put together each Circuit Rider, I am overwhelmed by the number of ways we can be involved in the life of this church. Are you? So what can you do? I am sure that like

me you must pick and choose where to be involved and use your own set of spiritual gifts to support the church.

This month's Circuit Rider is arriving as you may be

mulling (and praying) over another way to support the church--the REACH Capital Campaign.

So what can you do? This is a decision that is as

different and unique as each of us are, but I would offer the following simple but profound thought from

Methodist founder John Wesley in guiding this decision, which is also good advice in deciding the many ways to

get involved in the life of the church:

Pearl River UMC is the recipient of the 2015/2016 Robert B. Steelman Methodist History Award, for the Sesquicentennial Anniversary Journal, monthly history articles in the Circuit Rider, and the permanent

display in the Education wing that were all part of our 150th celebration. While this award belongs to the church and many who worked on these items, special kudos are due to

David Slagan as Church Historian for his tireless efforts.

The award will be presented in the coming months.

“All who follow Jesus… all around the world…

YES! We’re the church together.” ~ “I Am the Church” UMH #558

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As members of the United Methodist Church we are

connected to a larger body of sisters and brothers

throughout, not just our own country, but countries

around the world. This is both a blessing and a challenge

as we seek to live in communion with one another, across

boundaries of differing culture, ethnicity, theology and

ways of engaging in ministry.

Every four years, we send lay and clergy delegates from our

local Annual Conference to represent our voice at the

General Conference. General Conference is the top policy-

making body of The United Methodist Church. This

conference can revise church law, as well as adopt

resolutions on current moral, social, public policy and

economic issues. It also approves plans and budgets for

church-wide programs.

UMW News

Our Spring Rummage sale went well, thanks to all who helped. We donated the unsold

items to the Rockland Sister Cities Project in Nicaragua. Unused cosmetics and hair

products will help their beauty project. Children's clothing, shoes and new material was also donated. Bill Paolino from Nyack

visits the village at least once a year. Chris Zucchini from Christ's Ambassadors of

Charity was given other items that will be used at the M.L.K. Center in Spring Valley.

Our profit was a more than $1300.00.

We note the passing of Joe DiToma , a friend

to many, always willing to help with our Italian Dinners and to support our youth missions.

The UMW gave a gift of $1000.00 toward the Capital Campaign, $100.00 for the Crop Walk

and will provide the luncheon on Commitment Sunday as well the luncheon on Mission

Sunday. My love and peace to all. Helen D'Agostino

General Conference will be gathering this month, from

May 10th-20th in Portland, OR to make decisions

concerning future ministry and mission of the UMC.

One of the most important things we can do in

preparation for this conference is to pray. Pray for our lay

and clergy delegates that they may be filled with God’s

spirit, pray that they may be strengthened for the call they

have been given…but most of all, pray for a spirit of peace

to hold our church together, to be able to listen to one

another in love and find common ground for moving

forward together as the church of Jesus Christ. Our

prayers can make a difference!

In God’s power, grace and love,

Pastor Cyndi

Thank you to everyone who walked, sponsored a walker or volunteered for the Rockland CROP Hunger Walk 2016 on April 24th. This year 32 walkers and 7 volunteers raised over $3000, with

donations still coming in! Special thanks to Helen D'Agostino for the refreshments with donations from Borin Lugton and the Slagan family. Our Walk engages people in our

community in service to the neediest of the world. It raises funds to help hungry people, raises awareness of hunger as an issue, and brings together persons of many ages and backgrounds in

a common endeavor. We worked to make a difference to stop hunger one step at a time!

A Farewell Open House for our District Superintendent

good meal and extend your best wishes to Rev. and Mrs. Plumstead.

All pastors and members of Palisades District churches as well as any others who wish to attend are invited! More information will follow but kindly reserve this date.
