been receiving great feedback from the many people who were there that day! We will post the video

FAMILY RATESDont forget that we have special rates available for families of 2 or more!
See instructors for more information!
CURRICULUMWe have finished our Hawaiian Oli E Pele E Pele and are now working on our Kahiko Aia La
o Pele. We have completed the actions to the 2nd verse and the words to the 3rd verse. Make sure to
have the words to the 3rd verse MEMORIZED as we will only learn the actions to the 3rd verse, once
the majority of you have done so. PLEASE USE THE CLASS page on the HEILANI WEBSITE as
a tool to practice (the words and music are both on there). We have also learned two new Tahitian
Oteas which will be included in the BPAC competition.
PERFORMANCE TEAMWe have three performances coming up for the rest of this month, before BPAC in June. We will
be using these performances as rehearsals for the competition. We will be performing the Tahitian
Program this Tuesday at the Ethnic Awards at Logan Entertainment Centre. This will be the
PERFECT opportunity for us to figure out our staging for the competition (as it will be on the same
stage). If you are performing for any of the events this month, please let us know and dont forget to
bring EVERYTHING: Black boob tube (all girls doing Tahitian)

RECIPE OF THE MONTH
Spam Musubi
A favourite Hawaiian Snack
Ingredients
4 cups uncooked Japanese rice
4 cups water
5 sheets sushi-nori (seaweed)
1 can SPAM or SPAM Lite
Furukaki
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup rice wine (mirin)
Cooking Instructions
Cook rice in rice cooker. If no rice cooker is
available, put rice and water into a large
heavy saucepan. Heat water and rice until
boiling then immediately turn down and simmer for approximately 20-25 mins. or until soft and water is evaporated. Boil soy
sauce, sugar and rice wine. After it boils, turn off flame. Cut SPAM into 1/4 in. wide slices. Fry in pan. Soak fried SPAM in soy
sauce mixture. Line a musubi maker with sushi nori so that both sides stick straight up. Spread cooked rice across bottom of
musubi maker, on top of nori - 1/4 inch high. Sprinkle furukaki on top of rice. Place two pieces of SPAM in musubi maker on
top of rice. SPAM should cover most of the length of the musubi maker. Spread more cooked rice on top of spam - 1/4 in. high.
Sprinkle furukaki on top of rice. Fold over one side of the nori. Use musubi maker insert to press down on top of nori, rice and
SPAM. Fold over other side of nori and press down. Remove musubi log from maker. Cut each log into four pieces.
