Pastors letter Dear parishioners, Happy Mother’s Day to all our moms. At Mass today we will remember all our mothers living and deceased. I cannot tell you how distressed I am that we can’t have a public Mass on this very special day for our moms. But the Mass, none-theless, is for the intentions of our moms. The month of May is also dedicated to our Blessed Mother. Pope Francis has asked all Catholics to pray the Rosary daily during the month of May. I have tried to pray the Holy Rosary daily for most of my priesthood. I firmly believe that our Blessed Mother has rescued me many times from poor decisions and has offered her motherly hand to me throughout my life. I credit her for my vo-cation to the priesthood. This is the first Sunday that we are without a bishop. You will notice during the Eucharistic Prayer that the priest only prays for the pope, not for our bishop. Archbishop Hartmayer became the new archbishop of Atlanta this past Wednes-day. (However, we priests might mistakenly prayer for “Gregory John our bish-op” since it has become a habit.) I hope to include a petition in the General Intercessions asking God to send us a new bishop as soon as possible and to reopen our churches even sooner!!!!! Before Archbishop Hartmayer departed for Atlanta on April 30th, he had one final clergy personnel board meeting and made all the changes in our diocese which take effect July 1st. Our parish is included in those changes. Fr. Solomon Kanaan, our parochial vic-ar, will be leaving us for St. Mary on the Hill in Augusta. I know you will miss him and his pleasant demeanor in the parish. His replacement will be soon-to-be ordained Fr. Robert Phillips. He will be or-dained a priest at our Cathedral on Saturday, June 20th at 10 AM. He studied for the priesthood in Rome. His parents were my parishioners when I was in Augus-ta at the Church of the Most Holy Trinity in the 1990’s. I know them well and many of Fr. Robert’s extended family members. As well, our permanent deacon candidate, Ben Ernst will be ordained a deacon on Saturday, May 30th at the Cathedral at 10 AM. He will preach the Sunday Masses. Seminarian Kevin Braski will be with us for most of the summer. He arrives around the middle of this week. My rectory will be a frat house once again! Please keep Fr. Solomon and Fr. Robert, Ben and Kevin in your prayers. We are praying for you. God bless you and happy Mother’s Day! You pastor,
