    OH, TO BE forever young!

Kids today think they will live

    forever; that they're invincible.

    I know I did when I was a

    teenager. My goodness, the

hell I gave my parents as a

rebellious kid who had anissue with authority at a super

    strict private school. But, don't

worry, I mellowed out with my

    rebellious behaviors thanks

    to great parenting, excellent

    teachers and other positive

Today's teens have the world at their feet with limitless

possibilities ahead of them. What an exciting place to be! Our

kids are this country's future, which means that parents have thehuge – and oftentimes thankless – job of raising their children

to be healthy, responsible, courteous, considerate go-getters. No

    pressure, parents! Haha.

This issue is dedicated to our youth, but the articles can

FHUWDLQO\ KHOS SDUHQWV WRR $QG HYHQ LI \RX DUHQW D SDUHQW

there are still valuable things to learn inside these pages. For

example, who wouldn't want to discover ways to eat better or

make healthier choices? Kim Miller and Shannon Dougherty,

the FitMomDiet duo, share some great food swaps so you can

kiss those sugary, fat-laden, overly processed bad-for-you foods

goodbye (pgs. 44-46). Karen Morse writes about how diet trends

on social media could be negatively affecting our youth. She

explains not only why kids shouldn't follow these trendy diets, but also how kids (and parents) can eat a balanced diet rich in

vegetables, fruits, lean meats and whole grains (pgs. 50-52).

If you have teen athletes (or are one), then you don't want

to miss the training tips and advice on pages 22-24 or Joe

Wells' column on how many calories and how much protein teen

athletes should be consuming each day (pg. 12). Youth athletes

need way more calories than you might think!

Our biggest feature in this issue is all about kids across the

United States who are playing sports, competing in triathlons,

winning awards, keeping up good grades and eating right.

These "Max Muscle Kids" know the value of proper nutrition and

supplementation and are an inspiration to other children. Read

all about them on pages 34-39. Thanks to everyone who took

the time to submit their children for the feature!

I hope you enjoy this issue and you get something out of it,

for yourself, your children, your nieces or nephews, cousins,

whomever! Start kids early on the proper way to eat and

exercise and you're setting them up for a lifetime of success in

    that regard!

Here's to our kids! Until next time...

    0   WWW.MAXMUSCLE.COM  ı SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2015

I wanted to write to tell you abouta Max Muscle Franchise owner,

    Steve Kariotis at Max Muscle

Akron, Ohio. I currently live in

a small town named Warren (in

    Pennsylvania), which is about

    3.5 hours drive from Akron,

Ohio. I used to live in San Diego,

    California until about three years

ago when I was diagnosed with

Leukemia and I came back east

to be with family during my

treatment. I ended up needing a

    bone marrow transplant, which

was a living hell and I am stillrecovering.

Prior to my transplant I had

to have 11 teeth removed as

    they showed possible signs of

    developing cavities and so were

pulled as a cavity could be deadly

    during bone marrow transplant.

Once I began to recover, I gained 70+ pounds due to steroids and being unable

to move from so much pain and weakness. I was finally able to begin physical

therapy and start to exercise, which brings me to the point of all of this.

My doctors told me my protein intake was very low and I needed to add

more meat in my diet, which was a very tough thing to do having so many

teeth missing. I remembered Max Muscle in San Diego and hoped to find one

in my area. There were none anywhere nearby so I decided to try to order

some supplements online. Unfortunately I was not able to do that either as

the supplements I wanted weren't available through online ordering. I was,

however, directed to call a store in Akron, Ohio as they were shown to carry

what I needed. I called the store and explained my situation and asked if they

could help me in anyway. The man who answered said his manager would call

me back once he was available to which I thought, "Sure I'll never hear from

     you again."

Within a few minutes I received a call from Steve Kariotis who was very

friendly, helpful, professional and seemed genuinely to want to help. It's

now over a year later and I have to say, Steve is the consummate franchise

owner! I have not had a single problem in the year I have been ordering from

Max Muscle. He shares important tips for

    healthy living and sports performance

every month. Read past columns on

    MaxSportsandFitness.com.

ONE OF THE MOST frequent concerns

I hear from young athletes is, “Why can’t

I gain weight? I eat everything, and I

just can’t put on any weight." I’ve heard

this literally hundreds, if not thousands,

of times. I always educate them that it’s

    really a simple mathematical formula:

if you eat more calories than you burnconsistently, you will always gain weight.

They argue that they must be eating

    10,000 calories a day.

But the truth is that when you

break down the actual caloric intake

of typical high school male athletes,

most are consuming less than 2,500

calories a day, which is well under the

    requirements for an average weighing

male athlete. It is also important to

note that when you’re not eating

    enough calories, you become sluggish,

lose energy and you may begin to uselean muscle mass for energy – and no

    athlete wants that!

HOW MANY CALORIES DO I NEED?

Here is some great information from

North Carolina State University. A study

published in a 2010 edition of the

Journal of the International Society of

    Sports Nutrition  reports that strength

    athletes who participate in intense

training needed 50 to 80 calories per

kilogram of body weight, which is

equates to approximately 23 to 36calories per pound of body weight on a

    daily basis.

In simple terms, here is how this

equates to an athlete in pounds:

    a 150 pound athlete at 23 to 36 calories

per pound of body weight would be

between 3,450 and 5,400 calories per

day. Keep in mind that the higher end

of 5,400 calories would probably be an

    intense strength training athlete with

very fast metabolism and high needs for

recovery. You should start at the lower

range and work upward as you learnabout your personal metabolism.

HOW MUCH PROTEIN DO I NEED?

Another big concern for athletes is

getting plenty of protein in your diet.

When you design your meal plan,

make sure you consume protein 4 to

5 times per day. This will elevate your

    nitrogen levels throughout the day

    HEY JOE,why can't I gainweight?

and ensure that your weight gains are

    primarily lean muscle mass. Fifteen

to 20 percent of your dietary calories

should come from protein. So, our

    150-pound example would calculate as

follows: If he consumes 3,450 calories

per day, his diet would be 15 percent

protein, which is about 517 calories

(protein is 4 calories per gram). All this

equates to about 129 grams of protein

per day. Remember to split this into 4

to 5 servings throughout the day (about

    25g-30g of protein per serving).

Honestly, I would say that 95 percent

of all young athletes I work with have

no idea about any of this unless they

are working with a dietician or Max

    0XVFOH &HUWL¿HG )LWQHVV 1XWULWLRQ &RDFK

Eating the right amount of calories and

timing your protein as described can

literally mean three times the muscle

growth. Would you rather gain one

pound of muscle in a month or three?

    That’s a huge difference!

Over the past three decades, childhood obesity rates in theU.S. have tripled. Today, nearly1 in 3 kids in the U.S. areconsidered overweight or obese.

Back-To-SchoolDid you know that kids who carry too much

weight in a backpack can develop backpain that continues to plague them intoadulthood? e U.S. Consumer Product SafetyCommission reported that nearly 22,200strains, sprains, dislocations and fractures frombackpacks were treated in hospital emergencyrooms, physician’s offices and clinics in 2013.

According to e American Occupational erapy Association (AOTA,) a child’sbackpack should weigh no more than 10

Get Active as a Family Childhood obesity continues to be the top health concern for today’s youth as ranked by U.S.

adults across the country in the 2014 National Poll on Children’s Health. The Let’s Move initiative,

launched by First Lady Michelle Obama, encourages engaging in physical activity as a family to

    get everyone moving.

Children need 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity each day that can be spread out

    through the day.

Here are a few ideas from Let’s Move that can get your family on a healthier lifestyle track:

    1. Give children toys that encourage physical activity like balls, kites and jump ropes.

    2. Facilitate a safe walk to and from school a few times a week.

    3. Walk around the block after a meal.

    4. Make a new house rule: no sitting still during television commercials.

    5. Find time to spend together doing a fun activity: family park day, swim day or bike day.

Team PlayersMake Better Students A new study out of the University of Montreal found that

kids who participated in regular, structured team sports

early on performed better in the classroom. According

to the study, children who were involved in team sports

in kindergarten were markedly better at following

instructions and staying focused in school by the time

they reached fourth grade. The researchers believed

the sense of belonging to a team with a common goal

appears to help kids understand the importance offollowing rules and living up to responsibilities.

WATER YOUR BODY  A study published in a June 2015 issue of the“American Journal of Public Health” found

that more than half of all children and teens

in the U.S. are dehydrated, probably because

the grocery store and teach them how

to read labels – not everything on the

label, but things like the protein, fat and

sugar content,” she explained.  One of the most important things to

learn to read on food product labels,

added Dr. Fisher, is what a serving size

is. “You think you’re doing great with

    eating something without too much

VXJDU RU IDW´ VKH VDLG ³XQWLO \RX ¿QG

out you’ve just consumed three servings

    of it.”

      Parents can make learning about

healthy foods fun for their kids, she

continued. “Even a toddler can pick out

a fruit or vegetable at the grocery store

or the farmers market to try this week.”

If you have time and space, kids can

help to plant and tend a small garden

plot, and harvest the produce for meals.

According to Dr. Fisher, kids should be

involved in the cooking process at age

    appropriate levels. Whether it’s helping

to cut up veggies, stir the eggs for

    breakfast or add interesting seasonings,

    there are many learning opportunities

afforded by helping to prepare meals.

And despite the busy family schedule,

try to eke out one meal per day to eat

as a family as often as possible, she

    suggested. “Eating meals together as

    a family increases a child’s awareness

of what foods and what serving sizes

should be eaten, and it decreases the

    likelihood of obesity.”

By the time your kids are into their

teen years, they’ll be making many of

their own food decisions, and you won’t

be able to be with them all of the time

to see what they’re eating. But if you’ve

done your job early on, they’ll likely be

eating as they were taught – at leastmost of the time.

    1

Begin early to instill healthy eating

habits. It’s never too early, said

    Jennifer Ritchie, an International Board

    &HUWL¿HG /DFWDWLRQ &RQVXOWDQW ZKRowns Milkalicious, a lactation consulting

business in California. “I can tell you

that engendering a healthy lifestyle in

our kids starts, when possible, with

    breastfeeding,” she claimed. “Statistics

don’t lie, and the statistics tell us that

children who are breastfed are far less

prone to obesity later in life…”

Obesity, as many of us are aware,

leads to chronic conditions like high

    blood pressure, unstable cholesterol

levels and diabetes type 2, all of which

are risk factors for heart disease and

stroke. Obesity is also a risk factor for

    many cancers.

As babies begin eating, it’s important

to incorporate healthy foods into their

diets, such as fruits and veggies, small

amounts of lean meats, dairy foods

and whole grains. “In addition,” said Dr.

Hanks, “resisting the urge to purchase

fast food or snack foods that are poor

    nutritional choices is key.”

In other words, those foods that

are eaten regularly will become, over

a lifetime, what your child thinks of

as good. And what he hasn’t had very

often – like sugary cereals or treats

like pastries, cookies, candies and soft

drinks, salty snacks and fried foods –

will be considered an occasional treat,

and not a food to regularly indulge in.

When children get older, food issues

    should be an important dialogue

    between parents and children, said

Danelle Fisher, MD, Vice Chair of

    Pediatrics at Providence Saint John’s

Health Center in Santa Monica,California. “You can take your children to

     2Incorporate physical activity into

daily life. “In short, get up and move!”

    said Dr. Hanks. Encourage walking

or biking after school, whether it’s to

do errands or exercise the dog. You

can also “encourage your children to

participate in sports or even participatein chores that require physical activity,”

    recommended Dr. Hanks.

If your child isn’t interested in team

sports, there are a lot of individual

sports, too, such as martial arts,

swimming, or dancing. If classes don’t

¿W LQWR \RXU EXGJHW ORRN IRU OHVV

    expensive options through your local

YMCA or Girls and Boys Club.

And while technology should be limited

    because it promotes a sedentary

lifestyle, “not all technology is a

      Instilling good physical activity habits

can also mean teaching the simple

things, like walking to the library

instead of driving, taking the stairs

instead of opting for an elevator, or

using a push mower instead of the rider

at least some of the time.

    8   WWW.MAXMUSCLE.COM  ı SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2015

By The NumbersThe Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Diabetic Association, and the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute provide the following statistics aboutchronic disease in the United States:• Chronic diseases are the leading cause of death in the country, with 7 out of every

10 deaths due to these conditions.• Chronic health conditions account for $3 of every $4 spent on healthcare.• The average health care costs for a person with 1 or more chronic health conditions

is 5 times greater than for those without a chronic disease.• The rate of obesity, which leads to many chronic health conditions, has tripled in

kids aged 2-11 and more than tripled in kids aged 12-19 over the past 20 years.• Without big changes, 1 in 3 babies born today will develop type 2 diabetes.

    3  4Teach stress-busting techniques.

More and more research is showingthat not only do stress hormones cause

us to crave sugar, fat and starches –

like that candy bar you just had to have

while working against a deadline – but

    they also cause physiological changes

in the body that lead to chronic health

    conditions. One example is heart

    disease; stress hormones cause plaque

to build up on blood vessel walls as well

    DV LQFUHDVLQJ ERG\ LQÀDPPDWLRQ ERWK

of which are bad for the ticker.

      According to a recent study

    published in the journal Biological

Psychiatry , stress hormones may slow

metabolism. In the study, women who

had experienced one or more stressful

events in the day prior to eating a

fast food meal burned over 100 fewer

    calories after consuming the unhealthy

food than did women who ate the same

meal but reported little or no stress the

    day before. Stress researchers believe

that stress hormones also contribute to

fat storage by making insulin levels rise

    and fat oxidation levels fall.

      While kids may have different

    underlying reasons for stress than

adults do (mom and dad’s divorce,

WKDW WRXJK WHVW FRPLQJ XS GLI¿FXOWLHV

at school or with friends), they do

experience stress – and the negative

effects it has on the body. You can help

them to combat stress by teaching

    activities that relieve it. Blowing

bubbles is great even at the toddler

age, and simple yoga techniques work

well for little ones, too. Older kids can

relieve tension with walking or running, listening to and/or dancing to music, or

talking it out, either with you or with a

    mental health professional.

    Don’t underestimate your power

as a role model, said Ritchie. “As

a mother and a health practitioner,

I believe that a healthy lifestyle for

our children comes directly from the

example we set by the lifestyle we lead.

Balance in what we eat, in how much

we exercise, how much we work, and

in our emotional lives translates into

    the same for our children.”

Not only can you be a role model

at home with your child, you can be a

role model and leader for your entire

    community by getting involved in

health promotion at your child’s school.

    The Physical Activity Council reports

that a full 48 percent of high schools

have no PE classes, and recess time for

elementary kids is being cut short in

favor of increased learning time. And

    while federal programs and funding

    have helped many schools move

toward healthier meals, many still lack

    adequate funding for healthier foods,

    especially fresh fruits and vegetables.

      “Parents can’t assume that schools

    will promote healthy lifestyle behaviors

Nathan Wei is a board-certifiedrheumatologist with more than30 years of practice and clinicalresearch experience. But when his

10-year-old son, Benji, developedsymptoms suggestive of juvenile

ankylosing spondylitis (arthritis),he felt powerless. “I’m an adultrheumatologist, but pediatric diseases

    are very different,” Wei said.

    Juvenile ankylosing spondylitis,

explained Dr. Wei, is one of many

    autoimmune diseases that children may

    develop. Unless treated aggressively,

it may lead to blindness and crippling

    deformity.

    What exactly is an autoimmune

condition? It’s a situation in which the

    body’s healthy immune system, which

is designed to protect against invaders

    such as microorganisms, goes awry.

     “In autoimmune disease, the immune

    system attacks your body tissues

instead of foreign proteins like viruses

and bacteria,” said Nancy Pan, MD, a

    pediatric rheumatologist practicing in

    New York.

      2IWHQ GLI¿FXOW WR GLDJQRVH

    autoimmune diseases can attack all

    organ systems, including skin, lungs,

kidneys, joints, brain and spinal cord.

     Although relatively uncommon, some

of the more often seen childhood

    autoimmune conditions are type 1

    diabetes, celiac disease, arthritis,

    OXSXV LQÀDPPDWRU\ ERZHO GLVHDVHV

such as Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis,

    and juvenile dermatomyositis. Less

    frequently, kids develop multiple

    sclerosis and Addison’s (adrenal)

    disease.

      The cause of autoimmune diseases

is still a mystery, although research is

beginning to make it less so. “Genetics

certainly come into play,” said Dr. Pan.

“If a child’s parent or grandparent

    has an autoimmune disease, there’s

a higher likelihood of the child having

    that condition or another autoimmune

disorder.”   Many health researchers think that

    KIDS & ILLNESS

When It May Be an Autoimmune DiseaseBY LINDA HEPLER, BSN, RN

if you have a genetic tendency to

    develop an autoimmune condition, it

still takes a “triggering event,” such as

a virus, to activate the immune system

to attack the body. And still others

believe in the “leaky gut” theory.

In this theory, the intestinal lining,

ZKLFK LV WKH ¿UVW OLQH RI GHIHQVH LQ

    the immune system, develops “holes”

that allow invaders such as toxins and

waste to enter your bloodstream. This

results in the immune system going

    into overdrive, attacking everything in

sight – including your healthy tissue.

The cause of leaky gut is widely

    debated, but most researchers point

WR D GLHW KLJK LQ UH¿QHG DQG SURFHVVHG

    food and preservatives, chronic stress,

    bowel infections and medications such

as aspirin or acetaminophen that can

    irritate and compromise the intestinal

    lining.

      “The exact cause of autoimmune

conditions is a topic of intense

research,” said Dr. Pan. “It ’s a hot topic

right now, but nobody knows for sure.”   When should you be concerned

When PANDAS Is DangerousOne autoimmune condition that has been the subject of much research over thepast decade is Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disease Associated withStrep Infection, or PANDAS. It is a cluster of symptoms following a childhood strepinfection. It’s thought that the bacteria triggers an overactive immune response thatresults in inflammation in the brain. Symptoms may include the abrupt onset ofanxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, tics, personality changes, decline in mathand handwriting abilities, sensory sensitivities, and restrictive eating.  PANDAS is thought to be a genetic condition, triggered by the strep bacteria. It isrelated to rheumatic fever, which is another post-strep condition. Some pediatriciansare unfamiliar with this condition, so if your child has a sudden onset of symptomsfollowing a strep infection, it’s important to consult with a specialist familiar with thedisorder, such as a pediatric rheumatologist. PANDAS is treatable with a prolonged

course of antibiotics. Learn more about this condition at pandasnetwork.org.

WHO BETTER  to give teens somekey training tips than a head of sportsperformance for a high school? EnterCarl Galloway, a Biola Universitygraduate with a degree in Kinesiology

who earned a master's in coaching atConcordia University in Irvine, Calif. We asked him to share some of thetop questions and topics concerningteen athletes. On the following pagesis what he had to say.

What's the point of training?Training should prepare you

    for something. Everything has

a point. Training should be no

    different.

A ship without a rudder goesnowhere. So do you without a

goal. When you go to the gym,

don’t just go there to kill time

and see what you can get done.

Get in there with a reason to get

after it. Having the goal to work

on your arms or chest is a start

but it’s not enough. Your goal for

    training should be something that

you can’t accomplish in a day, but

    everyday provides an opportunity

to get closer to achieving it.

For instance, wanting to puton 10 pounds of muscle is a

pounds to your squat works, too.

$ JUHDW ¿OWHULQJ TXHVWLRQ LV WR DVN

    yourself, “What am I preparing

myself for?” Then, let your answer

to that question guide your day-

    to-day training choices. Don’t

    get caught spending energy

without having a goal in mind

    because at best you’re going

in circles and at worst you’re

     just spinning your wheels.

TrainingDO plan your training witha strength and conditioningprofessional.

We all need coaches to help us

    improve. Whether you’re a comedian

or public speaker everybody needs a

coach to get better. Even people who

are already good have coaches. All-Pro

    NFL quarterbacks and All-Star hitters

still have coaches. So, if you’re trying

to improve in the gym, why wouldn’t

you have a coach? A coach is going

to know when to push you and whento back off. But most importantly,

they can be a better judge of your

Someone with a credential is goingto at least have the basic knowledge

Three things I wish I knew when I was a student athleteThere are a ton of things I wish I knew when I first started training. I would havegotten stronger, more explosive and built more agility a whole lot faster than I did.Not that I blew anyone’s mind with what I eventually accomplished, but if I’d knownthese things back then, I might have.

    1. More weight isn’t always better. This would have gone against every meathead bone in my high school body.

I trained for numbers, plain and simple. It was about benching as much as

I could regardless of how much I had to bounce it off my chest, but once

I started coaching, I realized that more weight doesn’t always equal better

results. Reps with perfect form are always better for you than mediocre reps.

So lift heavy, lift hard, but do it with great form.

    2. Stick with one program. Most high school students change workouts on an almost weekly basis and

wonder why they aren’t getting results. A good program has a progression

a program unless you do the entire thing, so stop chasing the next hot

    beginning to end.

    3. Don’t confuse difficult with beneficial. 7KHUH DUH DOO NLQGV RI GLI¿FXOW ZRUNRXWV RXW WKHUH , XVHG WR VHOHFW ZRUNRXWV

based on how hard it was or how good of a “pump” I got. I was way off the

    MAX  CHAMP

Five Simple RulesI HAVE SEVEN amazing nieces and nephews ranging in age from18 months to 19 years. Spending time with them is the greatest

blessing and I absolutely love watching them grow and be active.

Recently, I had the opportunity to take two of them to Max

Muscle to learn about nutrition and how to fuel their growing

bodies. My nephew, Evan, is 14 and my niece, Mariah, is 12.

They both play sports all year long and have schedules that keep

everyone in the family running. Learning the basics of nutrition was

important to them both and they were so excited to listen to Steve

    /XFFKLQR P\ FHUWL¿HG ¿WQHVV QXWULWLRQ FRDFK &)1& WHDFK WKHP

about macronutrients and why not all foods are created equally.

    1. Eat breakfast. Studies show that children are at a scholastic

and athletic advantage when they eat a breakfast rich in protein,

complex carbs and healthy fat. My nephew is not a breakfast

kid. He rolls out of bed just in time to get to school or practice

on time. My sister was really concerned about this because, as a

teacher, she knows the impact a healthy breakfast can make on a

student’s focus and attention in school. She started purchasing Max

Muscle’s Pro 360, a protein supplement with the ideal balance of

calories, proteins, carbohydrates and fats for young athletes. This

was perfect for Evan. He blends it with milk and a banana for a

    convenient, easy breakfast.

    2. Find ways to get high protein snacks. This is the question

    , JHW DVNHG PRVW IUHTXHQWO\ ³:KDW GR \RX HDW IRU KHDOWK\ VQDFNV

during the day?” I usually have cottage cheese and almonds ora little Greek yogurt for mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks,

easy snacks on the go, try quality protein bars, like Quest or B-Up

Bars; low sodium, chemical- and sodium-nitrate free jerkies, or a

    MaxPro shake.

    3. Replace traditionally highly processed snacks with fruits

and vegetables. Kids often look for convenience when choosing

food. Having fresh fruit and vegetables cut up and immediately

available in the refrigerator makes healthy snacking easy. If your

kids are in the mood for something sweet, they can grab a bowl of

berries. If they want something crunchy, replace potato chips with

carrots or cucumbers and they can get the same sensation withoutthe preservatives, sodium and unneeded calories.

    4. Don't focus on counting macros or calories. High activity

levels and growth spurts can cause kids to go through periods

making good, quality food choices, they will be less likely to obsess

over quantity, thus preventing over or under eating and creating

good habits they’ll take with as they age into adults.

    5. Make eating healthy and being active fun. My nieces and

nephews love to help in the kitchen and being involved in the

DEVON JACK  is a senior at San Marino High

School in San Marino, California and is the top

ranked player on the varsity tennis team where she

led her team to two Southern California High School

Championships. Devon trains year round andcompetes in many other tournaments outside of her

    school tennis season.

      Originally, Devon played competitive soccer,

but four years ago decided to make the switch to

tennis because of injuries often associated with

soccer. She had already dealt with a couple of

serious sports related injuries, and even thoughshe had been invited to participate in the Olympic

Development Program in soccer, she made a

strategic move to tennis and began training in

earnest. In four short years, she has risen to the

    challenge.

Devon currently trains with Coach Dave Nowick

and with his expert guidance and her hard workshe is receiving national attention. “Through hard

work, dedication, perseverance and a lot of great

coaching from Coach Dave and support from my

parents, I am now ranked 75th in the nation in

tennis recruiting for college level competition,” said

Devon. Switching to tennis has proven an excellent

    decision for this young teen.

“I loved soccer because of the team aspect, but I love tennis because it is

a mental and physical battle,” Devon said. “On the court I love pushing myself.

And, I have met so many great people at all the tournaments.”

Devon purchases her Max Muscle products online and uses Vit-Acell in the

morning and MaxPro Vanilla in her favorite strawberry/banana smoothie. She

trains six days a week for three hours per day and then runs twice a week on

of her favorite on court moves, and now when she hits a backhand on the line

in a tough match and it’s a winner, it is a great feeling for this dedicated young

athlete.  Parental support and encouragement have played huge roles in Devon’s
