Celebrating 50 Years of Accessible Art

This year, Main Line Art Center is celebrating a major milestone! Since 1964, our Accessible Artprograms for adults and children with developmental and physical challenges, at-risk youth, andlow income families have encouraged thousands of individuals to explore their imagination andcreativity through the visual arts. Our 50-year commitment to fostering the inclusion of people ofall ages, abilities, and skill levels, and strong history of exemplary accessible programs is whyorganizations around the country look to us as a resource.

    About our Accessible Art Programs

Within our creative home, Main Line Art Center offers the Exceptional Art program for children, teens, and adults with cognitive and physical disabilities. Working with a variety of media like clay, paint, and collage, students build cognitive, physical, and social skills and are given an importantoutlet for self-expression. Our experienced Teaching Artists work alongside a team of volunteersto provide one-on-one instruction and attention. Participants ourish in this supportive and funenvironment and often stay with the program for many years.

Main Line Art Center also partners wi th organizations in the Greater Philadelphia area to providevisual arts programs for their participants. Through our Creating in Clay program with the Centerfor the Blind and Visually Impaired in Chester, students awaken their senses, gain condence, and independence through the use of tactile mediums like clay and mosaics. Our programswith Elwyn for children, teens, and young adultswith physical and cognitive disabilities, help studentsdevelop their cognitive and ne motor skills, as wellas develop a creative and visual vocabulary in afun and social atmosphere. Through PresbyterianChildrens Village, we provide an after-school visualarts program to complement the education programsoffered to troubled teenage girls in their residentialtreatment facility.
